Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited formerly called Mazagon Dock Limited, is a shipyard situated in Mazagaon, Mumbai. It manufactures warships and submarines for the Indian Navy and offshore platforms and associated support vessels for offshore oil drilling. It also builds tankers, cargo bulk carriers, passenger ships and ferries.
MDL is a public sector undertaking managed by the Ministry of Defence, with the Government of India holding an 84.83% stake. Its shipbuilding segment has indigenously built stealth frigates, destroyers, guided-missile destroyers, corvettes, landing platform docks, missile boats, patrol boats, trailing suction hopper dredgers, cargo ships, cargo-passenger ships, platform supply vessels, Voith tugs and BOP vessels, while its submarine segment has built conventional submarines and stealth submarines. Both segments have also performed repair and refit activities

Lekin Mumbai jaisa high population density shahar me car infra promote karna galat hai kyunki agar itne saare log cars own karenge to traffic increase hoga parking ke liye space nahi bachegi, aur city kaafi chaotic environment ban jaaega. Kyu naa public transit jaise already existing BEST busses Local train aur upcoming metro lines ko jyada promote Kiya jaaye? Public transit kaafi jyada affordable aur city ko profitable bhi hota hai. We need to have aggressive private players catering to the ship building requirement - Just like 25 years ago we started the car industry revolution and see where we are today. Having lazy government organizations which cannot design ships and are totally dependent on license manufacturing is not going to help and we will still be looking at these statistics even after 20 years. Inspite of having 7000+kms of coastline, we still dont have a deep sea port and cannot take in large ships where as even sri lanka has. Inspite of having wonderful archipelago as a prime real estate in the middle of 60% of ocean trade, we dont have a multi modal port.. Why Why Why? We need to fix these immediately.
We are way behind other countries in shipbuilding and ship repairing. One of the reasons is that our yards r run by public sector undertakings which r very inefficient. Now privatise them all. Encourage foreign collaboration. Then only country will progress. Industry will earn some profit.

Ya it's take time but it's worth it.
We have to build massive 150,000 and 200,000 ton cruise ships and cargo ships for international cruise and cargo liner companies. That will guarantee workers 10 years of employment and graise them to a status of a skilled labourer with experience thus providing the workers with excellent future job oppurtunities.

Without ships ,you are not a superpower. Germany ,russia,uk,japan can help us in this. Why we import. Promote new lifestyle around sea. Like in canada,europe. Retired naval officers love living on water. We lack that exosystem. In other countries people live on water permanently
