i remember the time i decided to replay this game on realistic difficulty, it took me so long and i was stuck on the mission when the skank drives for like weeks, insane to see speedrun under hour, great job man
It was only recently when I’ve been playing it with the frame rate locked at 60 did I realise that if you don’t do that certain aspects don’t work as intended, such as the swim bobbing/swaying is really bad uncapped, the weapon sway doesn’t function properly, enemies never throw grenades with the frame rate uncapped, and of course enemies enemies get alerted a little easier, they react a bit faster which both of those isn’t that noticeable on realistic. The most noticeable part is enemies always fire on full auto uncapped whereas with 60fps (the way it was meant to be where those other things work as intended) they use single shots, and then use full auto if you get up close. Fun fact, so I’ve beaten this game on realistic frame rate uncapped multiple times (1.4 version and 1.3 I prefer the 1.3 version 64bit, the blood looks more sensible and it didn’t introduce the bug where enemies can see you through tents) and that jeep section is just nearly impossible, because I’ve died so many times I can kill all the other Jeeps perfectly, fighting the helicopter is a gamble, the campsite is nearly impossible with the frame rate uncapped on realistic, but I’ve beaten it a few times through sheer luck and it’s not fun, so I learned the look at the side of the truck exploit, 5 attempts is better than around 100. So the other day got to that bit (1.3 64bit with the frame rate capped to 60) did it all, used the exploit, did it in one go and only lost a little bit of armour. Still died over and over throughout the game of course, it’s the indoor areas that are the really hard parts, like the bit where you blow up that computer and a load of armoured enemies drop in from a helicopter, the archive level, the one after that, the catacombs level etc.
Thanks for all the info on fps and enemy behaviour and just in general, good observation. I am happy people who are game enthusiasts turn to speedrunners for tricks and exploits. @@lekolega oh I don’t do speed runs, I don’t find them fun to do, it’s just that look away from the enemies in the campsite during the turret section exploit is mandatory on realistic difficulty especially with the uncapped frame rate, if you don’t want to rip your hair out from having to try probably over 100 times to get lucky one time to pass that section. The funny thing with this game where people say “stealth is useless, and enemies can see you from miles away” they’re playing it wrong, most enemies can see you around 300 meters away, but the sniper enemies can see you from double the distance, most people are far too used to games where the enemies have glaucoma and can’t see past 80 feet, and yeah if you stand out in the open which a lot of these people do, of course they’ll see you, you have to be inside of bushes for the stealth the work, unless they are like five feet away then they’ll see you in a bush.
@@lekolega I started running this game from time to time :) This way on River... never knew about it before. It can be used in regular speedruns, isn't it?
@@МирославПарафенюк I am glad to hear that :). Yes, it is an interesting route. It only saves time if you are playing on Realistic since you would have to stop to clear out areas of enemies before proceeding if you continued by boat. Otherwise they would just always kill you. On easy you can just drive the boat by and they won't hit you so the route I do in this run would end up being slower.
What exactly does difficulty affect in this game? I assume it’s damage taken and the time it takes for enemies to spot you at least, but is there anything else it affects? - Almost forgot to say - nice run! This is the game that originally made me a pc gamer back in 2004-2005. Playing this game at a friends house made me save up for a gaming pc of my own :)
I think it affects only AI. They become insanely accurate and responsive, more aware so they spot you faster. Maybe damage as well, but it does not matter since enemies will hit you more anyways. Thanks. And yeah, this game definitely shaped my childhood as well 🙂
39:36 Firstly I drop the gun I have in weapon slot 1. Then I get into a boat. While driving the boat I hit a save point and the I load the save point. (This works for all vehicles and mounted weapons.) After that, when you get out you will be able to shoot with a boat weapon, either the machinegun or rocket launcher in this case. The X just kinda stays like that as a byproduct of the glitch, so I use it as a crosshair.
The swamp part at 44:56 is completely different from what you experience in real game. I grinded this part for about 500 times maybe and in this video it seems like a medium difficulty at best. It's also funny how there are no enemies in front of the final outpost... Also luckily, it seems that you are avoiding somehow the problem with NPC shooting through the obstacles at you (it's the common problem with modern GPUs and make the game ultra difficult).
I played the game on around 100 fps which significantly reduces reaction time from the enemies. The developers clearly never meant for the game to be played on super high fps. The trick with Swamp at a certain part is if you don't look at those enemies, they don't see you. It's an easy exploit. There's a lot of info on the run in the description and on some other Far Cry runs on my channel. I think I also had the AI tent fix installed which prevents enemies from shooting through walls. That was an accidental exploit introduced in the 1.4 patch by the devs that people then managed to revert back to normal. Basically, realistic was never meant to be that hard, but when you play it on 500+fps which is the typical framerate modern machines run this game on, it gets absolutely disgustingly unfair and cheap. Before I did speedruns of this game, when I was a kid, I also remember replaying that driving part in Swamp like a million times hoping to not get instantly killed. Try limiting your game fps with RivaTuner to cca 150. The game should still feel great to play. Don't use g_maxfps since that command is pretty broken and doesn't limit fps properly in the game and makes it run in a choppy way.
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂. Far Cry 1 for Xbox 360 is Far Cry Classic, an HD remaster and in it they fixed a bunch of things, added invisible walls and such, so most of the skips and tricks are not possible to pull off. Too bad. I remember someone from the Cry Running community played it, but if I had the remaster I would give it a try personally.
Good eye. It's the fire on the ground. The fire damage triggers are most likely shapes and shapes extend vertically all the way from the top of the skybox to the bottom of the map. It's the same reason why Bunker can be skipped from underneath the map.
Great run :D! Question though: I noticed you encountered fewer enemies at 55:03. I remember playing this game once on realistic and encountered 3 fast trigens and 4 fat boys here. I played this game again on realistic and also had same experience on your run. Only 1 fast trigen and 4 fat boys. Is there some trick to reduce number of enemies appearing in the level/game?
@EntenSuppe Yea for sure! I'm done with Far Cry 1, but the 26 missile jeep situation was the speed runner taking advantage of an ammo glitch which they explain in comments. So it's all good. I also had enemies on 45:50 too in my first realistic run. But then on the second realistic run, they weren't there... In the end, I just chalked it up to random bugs in the game causing enemies to despawn :)
Were you using any mods or tweeks other than "g_maxfps 60"? Ive been trying to play this game but im getting shot through trees and buildings and it makes it really annoying
Thanks :) There is a lot more time to be saved all over the place. There are also new strats that nobody has even used yet. So a 54 can be done, probably even 53.
@@lekolega Yes, I also noticed that you have two crown locations where you get off for two minutes. And I would also like to move away from the topic a little. Are there speedruns without bugs? That is, cleanly pass the game on realistic
It took me more than 1 hour to finish some of the maps in realistic diff with no checkpoints use. Guy finishes the game in less than that. I am like 0.0 Also at the Swamp gates at 45:56 I have 1 jeep with 2 enemies and in the camp just after I get shot much earlier and there are more enemies (at least 4 more on the ground) in realistic diff, how come?
it's not you. limited fps to 100 nerfs the AI. however, if i would just leave the fps to the default 500, the AI would be insanely accurate. especially with the bug that makes enemies shoot you through walls that is in 1.4.
So at 29:40 when you are behind the fence you say "shooting from a position where I can't take damage" I tested it and I definitely take damage. Not saying you're lying just not sure what I'm doing differently. Also in the Pier level where you say to blow up the 2 guys in the buggy in the garage to avoid the invincible helicopter for not blowing up the armory that doesn't work for me either. The only way I can avoid the invincible helicopter is if I haul ass and even then it seems to just be rng.
For Archive I can imagine. Keep in mind that I nerfed the game with g_maxfps 60 and that gives me slightly over 100 fps. I don't know how that works, don't ask xd. But for realistic I think many things are rng like that. Same goes for Pier. The crucial thing for me in Pier is to not get seen by the heli. After that it mostly rng if you get spotted or not, especially on realistic. Try and figure something out by yourself. We might be able to help you in the discord. Feel free to join. discord.gg/BrsHTFv
Bro literally in that car drive at 44:50 i had only 5 rockets how is possible that you have 25 and not all soldiers spawned is that like older version or do i have broken game :D
I have 25 rockets because I glitched the ammo count in River by loading a save (40:01) after dropping my weapon in weapon slot 1 (39:36) so that I can use the vehicle's rocket launcher on foot when I get out of the vehicle at the end of the level (42:13). The enemies that don't spawn are tied to the command sys_skiponlowspec. If on 1, the game will skip spawning additional objects which is handy for some things in the run, including not spawning the extra enemies that would be at 45:53.
when someone completes the whole game on realistic in the time it takes you to complete one level on realistic😔 is the enemy AI and aim tied to frame rate? that might explain why they headshot me from across the map.
well tbh the record is not contested by anyone so i really didnt have much motivation to improve it. besides, grinding when there is a lot of randomness feels more like waiting to get lucky. given enough attempts and time, you will get it.
Pretty good run!!! 39:07 can someone explain what just happened :D ? Man we need more games likes this, today all games suck. Hope there will be Far Cry VR one day... I didn't play any other Far Cry than 3 and all other are so boring. Because era we live in, around millennium best games were created. Today they have all the tools, yet all games suck... Wait this was on realistic, how did they not even hit him at mission when Valerie rides the jeep and you shoot?
Thanks man. 39:07 I shoot a grenade in the enemies' vicinity so I alert them and then I use binoculars to tag them which loads the AI properly because of "increased" proximity(I think) and then I throw rocks so they see me and come towards me, thus skipping walking and swimming to their location. They will probably never release new games that are as simple as this because the market has evolved and they just would not be able to make money. Check out Doom Eternal. A very good game with some contemporary additions. In the level Swamp where Val drives, they did not shoot me much because I was lucky and my fps is around 100 which nerfes enemies' reaction time. Some time after that run we found out you can just not look at some enemies in that segment and they don't even bother shooting you.
@@lekolega yeah I tried the "don't look strats" durning swamp with my fps at around 800 w/o nerf on realistic and they just shred you instantly. Not sure how the dev's expected you to get past that section w/o nerfing them on regular realistic playthrough. I died like 100 times trying to get past that part where she jumps the ramp with the jeep. Luckily I discovered a trick (non speedrun) where you can climb the hill to jump the fence and kill everyone along the on rails section and then go back and drive that section w/o any resistance.
@@peterw1534 It is a like they never even bothered testing it. But keep in mind, the no look strat only works on the enemies at 45:56. @@lekolegaIt must be a version thing then, I used a fan-made patch to prevent the A.I. to see through the tents, so I definitely played a patched-up version. Back in the day, I tried to finish the game on realistic difficulty without using any weapons other than the machete found in the hut at the beginning of the level training (ramming vehicles into things was allowed). I called it "Ninja mode". I skipped the crow-copter part at the end of the boat level and got stuck in the swamps, where I quit. Do you think it is possible to complete the whole game with only the machete?
@@zavar8667 Interesting. Well, probably not. You can't really kill Crowe's heli without shooting it. You can't be close enough to him to machete him to death. Everything else should be doable though.
@@lekolega I'm sure you know you can get back to the island from the sinking boat. And what if you tried to jump at the Crow-helicopter with a humvee? Like in that semi-scripted scenario in "rebellion". Or is one vehicle crashing into it won't even kill it? Or maybe it would get stuck somewhere, a.i. gets weird after you get back to the land. And the final level? You could get through by that army at 57:45 on realistic? Does seems pretty hard with only a machete. Maybe you could use flash/smoke grenades. Those are in the Ninja spirit. :D Are there even any smoke grenades in this game? I think there are, but I didn't use them for some reason.
@@zavar8667 There are smoke grenades and they work well actually. There must be a setup to skip many enemies in volcano. The only real problem would be Boat.
There is a good example on the level River. At 39:34 I kill the guy and drop my M4, making my first weapon slot empty. Then I drive the boat and get to a save point at 40:01. After the game is saved, I reload that save and then I have the vehicle's gun, either machinegun or rocket launcher. You can see when I first have it because of the X as my crosshair at 40:42 when I exit the boat. You can also see that the ammo count carries over from the boat to the car, having 30 + 27 rockets when I get into the car.
What's the idea behind spawn camping Crowe's helicopter at 34:31? You back off to abuse LOD so that the rockets can go through the island's hitbox and destroy it?
I would come closer if I could but there is a death trigger a bit further from where I shoot rockets from. If I come closer, I instantly die from the attack helicopter.
@@lekolega When I tried to replicate it I shot all 30 rockets in that area and nothing happened. Which is why I assumed there's some other trick to it. Is it maybe patch specific or game state specific? I tried to do that after the first tower checkpoint, so that I could safely retreat to the previous base, grab the boat and move to this spot.

At that point, the new ones had not been discovered yet. Yeah, this run can be done much better but playing on realistic is not too much fun. Too much randomness with the enemies. Sometimes they kill you instantly, sometimes they barely shoot. Elastomania huh? That is a really cool game from back in the day. Always had the demo back then and could never get the full game 😀.
They do everything quicker on high fps. On Realistic it gets to a point where you turn the corner and just die. It is beyond unrealistic. With maxfps 60 they are more balanced. You still take A LOT of damage though but it is not impossible.
@@lekolega Wow, I completed the game at least 10 times, but never noticed this. Old games can produce weird bugs according to frame rate. Right now I am doing a realistic walkthrough on a locked 100 fps, and yeah, it's quite challenging, but not that hard if you know the mechanics. I am at level 7 and I died only 6 times yet. Btw, there is that notorius part in the swamp mission, where you have to handle the jeep's gun while the chick is driving. Now, I was compleletely sure, that that part at 46:00 is impossible to do on this difficulty unless you use a bug (you turn your back at them, so they won't spot you so early). But know I see that you went through that part quite easily losing barely any health AND without using the bug, but how the heck??? :D So using that bug is not necessary after all?
Good eye. It is because of the glitch that I do at the end of River. I drop the weapon in my slot 1 (39:37) and then enter the boat, then when the game is saved while I am in the boat, I load that save (40:02) and because of that I trigger a glitch and I get to keep whatever gun I was using on the boat (or any other vehicle or mounted gun) on foot, in this case the rocket launcher. After that, the ammo count of the vehicle RL gets carried over to the next level. I had 20 rockets at the end of River + 6 that I normally get in Swamp = 26 rockets

Amazing content keep up the good work
What exactly does difficulty affect in this game? I assume it’s damage taken and the time it takes for enemies to spot you at least, but is there anything else it affects?
-
Almost forgot to say - nice run!
Thanks. And yeah, this game definitely shaped my childhood as well 🙂
In the Swamp Level, how did use a binoculars with an "X" as a scope for the rocket launcher?
39:36 Firstly I drop the gun I have in weapon slot 1. Then I get into a boat. While driving the boat I hit a save point and the I load the save point. (This works for all vehicles and mounted weapons.)
After that, when you get out you will be able to shoot with a boat weapon, either the machinegun or rocket launcher in this case. The X just kinda stays like that as a byproduct of the glitch, so I use it as a crosshair.
Impressive, good run
men, I need a few days to complete the carrier stage 😂
22:32 Heartattack?
That is actually me hanggliding over some fire on the ground. The fire deals damage when you go over it, regardless of how high you are.
@@lekolega Yeah, that fire have insane hitbox this game is broken :D
@@lekolega That's some great info. Thanks :)
This is incredibly cool and I liked and subbed, but do you know if this works for the xbox version as well?
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂.
Far Cry 1 for Xbox 360 is Far Cry Classic, an HD remaster and in it they fixed a bunch of things, added invisible walls and such, so most of the skips and tricks are not possible to pull off. Too bad. I remember someone from the Cry Running community played it, but if I had the remaster I would give it a try personally.
@@lekolega Just finished watching start to finish great job 👍
22:30 What hurt you there? The fire on the ground? It's weird...
There is an AI tent fix which prevents the AI from shooting you through walls.

Excellent high-speed passage, I'm amazed) I think you can still cut a minute from your own record if you are lucky with the elevators and barrels

There is a lot more time to be saved all over the place.

Also at the Swamp gates at 45:56 I have 1 jeep with 2 enemies and in the camp just after I get shot much earlier and there are more enemies (at least 4 more on the ground) in realistic diff, how come?
Realistic can be a bitch, yeah. There is a setting in the game that determines spawning of additional objects. We have it on 0.

This guy is a god!!
Well done!
crazy run man... i don't if it's just me or is the AI bad for realistic mode?
it's not you. limited fps to 100 nerfs the AI. however, if i would just leave the fps to the default 500, the AI would be insanely accurate. especially with the bug that makes enemies shoot you through walls that is in 1.4.
58:26 how do you kill him with a few bullets? Amazing run btw
his crotch is a weak point, no kidding ;)
Bro literally in that car drive at 44:50 i had only 5 rockets how is possible that you have 25 and not all soldiers spawned is that like older version or do i have broken game :D
I have 25 rockets because I glitched the ammo count in River by loading a save (40:01) after dropping my weapon in weapon slot 1 (39:36) so that I can use the vehicle's rocket launcher on foot when I get out of the vehicle at the end of the level (42:13). The enemies that don't spawn are tied to the command sys_skiponlowspec. If on 1, the game will skip spawning additional objects which is handy for some things in the run, including not spawning the extra enemies that would be at 45:53.
when someone completes the whole game on realistic in the time it takes you to complete one level on realistic😔
is the enemy AI and aim tied to frame rate? that might explain why they headshot me from across the map.
yeah the more fps the more responsive enemies are. 😀
@@lekolega makes sense. you know this game is brutal when even the WR has multiple deaths.
well tbh the record is not contested by anyone so i really didnt have much motivation to improve it. besides, grinding when there is a lot of randomness feels more like waiting to get lucky. given enough attempts and time, you will get it.

You have to make sure you never see them or else they will delete you, especially on 800 fps. You can see an example of it in my Easy Any% run: ruclips.net/video/mGAFEgzHZyo/видео.html
@@lekolega ok so I just did some testing and locked my framerate at 120hz and I can make it through with the "don't look at them" trick a little over half the time (on realistic of course). They don't see me until I hit the ramp like yours and other videos. BUT if I set the framerate to uncapped as I normally play (hovers around 500 during this drive) I get completely slaughtered as soon as I enter that area even if I'm not looking at them. Absolutely night and day! Thanks for your input.
@@peterw1534 Interesting. It doesn't surprise me tbh. It is quite an old game now.

It's hard for everyone. I mostly make this look kinda easy because I skip almost all the enemy encounters. This run can be done so much faster nowadays but I just can't be assed to do it.
@@lekolega I finished this game seven years ago, but I never touch the realistic mode. Today I watched your play, before watching this, I cannot imagine that this game can be finished in less than an hour! IMO, Far Cry 1 is one of the hardest games. 😅
I remember you can't shoot with the vehicle's machine gun from the driver's seat on realistic, what's up with that?
I have a vague memory of that from somewhere as well. It might be in Crysis? Or maybe it is in Far Cry 1.3? Not sure but here it's not an issue.
Still dont know how to get thr car smg
There is a good example on the level River. At 39:34 I kill the guy and drop my M4, making my first weapon slot empty. Then I drive the boat and get to a save point at 40:01. After the game is saved, I reload that save and then I have the vehicle's gun, either machinegun or rocket launcher. You can see when I first have it because of the X as my crosshair at 40:42 when I exit the boat. You can also see that the ammo count carries over from the boat to the car, having 30 + 27 rockets when I get into the car.
Whooo hooo wtf dude !! Wow! I sub 😂❤️ fuking nice run
GG comrade, well done)

I noticed you used old skips for Archive and Cooler. You should easily do sub-55 now
At that point, the new ones had not been discovered yet.
Very impressive.
"Played on g_maxfps 60 to nerf enemies a bit."
What do you mean by this? Enemies spot you sooner if you play on higher fps?
@@MattCarter1999 It is not necessary. If you don't have too much FPS there it is not a huge problem. You just have to hit your shots.
@@lekolega Thanks, I will try. If it doesn't work, I will limit the FPS to 60 as well.
44:58 it has only 6 ammo by default, where did you find 26?
Thus is not. Got skip.
44:50 It's NOT realistic!!!.. in realistic you only have few rockets (it was 6 or 7 i forgot) in lower difficulties you have more than 6-7 rockets :)
