Thanks a million. Keeping the liners in was a big deal to me, and thanks to your simple instructions, it made me realize how easy this mod is. My Jeep looks great thanks to you.
All the howling, I dont get it. They did a terrific job. The flex at the end was extremely useful, and is almost never done for viewers. He paid special attention to the pinch weld area which is always the weak point for bigger tires. He even showed you the compressed bump stop! The finishing touch was the front tucked and him showing specifically where a minor trim could be done. This is an amazing job for a stock JKUR. LCOG, Good clean look. I think they kicked ass. Helped me alot. Thanks guys!
This was a GREAT video. Did mine this weekend and after having watched this video about 4 or 5 times, I didn't even have to reference it during the process. It's actually really easy! To Steve R. below, this is a perfect option for those trying to save a couple bucks and get a quick custom look. It really is easy and cheap! What's it matter if you cut up your fenders or replace them? Thanks a ton for putting this video up! Very happy with mine for $36 instead of $380. Putting my 35's on tomorrow along with 3-1/2" Lift in another 2 weeks!
great video.. very cool of you to take the time to share this. Motivated me - Im about half done with from fenders. Noticed my inner guard does not come as low as yours so drilling that new hole into the body to secure it from flapping is going to get tricky.. I'm not super handy but your vid made it seem so very easy i decided to give it a try. Worst case - i screw it up and have to buy aftermarket fender flares.
gotta say, always thought this was a hack job but yours look great! favoriting this video for when i get my new tires and need a trim. the fender savings alone damn near paid for the wheels!
Just finished doing this to my 2013 JK, looks like A beauty with the 3.25 lift and 35's, highly recommend doing this if you have any kind of hand skills what so ever.
Just did the rears tonight. I went to Harbor Freight here in Vegas and picked up a pneumatic metal saw, got some Fine blades and i was good to go. Only problem i had was my porter cable 6lbs tank didn't have enough balls to keep up.
I personally would not have used normal spray paint. I would use bed liner for the wheel wells. It would do alot better than spray paint and would also allow for protection as well. But you did a great job.
Completed this Mod on my 2013 JK over the weekend. Looks awesome! And I agree using spray-on truck bed liner instead of spray paint was the way to go. By the way the door trim I bought had a bead of adhesive in the groove.
Hey thanks a bunch for taking the time to post this video. After 35's and a 2.5" lift who's got money for fender flares? I followed you step by step and I'm really digging the look. Thanks again!
auto trans has different gearing. So, it's a better ratio for power. You won't need re-gear as soon when you go to bigger tires. I highly recommend Jeepforum. I'm Charles over there. There are a lot of knowledgeable guys.
Thanks looks great and it appears with just a 2.5-3.0" lift and a little cutting and grinding of the metal parts of the inner fenders 37-38" tires could fit in those wheel wells.
Now here is vid we can appreciate!! awesome job dude. Kudos to your wife, girlfriend not sure what she is. good team work. def doing this mod this wk end. Thanks!!
Money. My rig has aftermarket fenders, and this rig got sold before it got its aftermarket fenders. That being said, this is a great way to save a few bucks and still run larger tires.
2012 has a new engine. It's a 3.6 instead of a 3.8. It is smoother and produces more power. If you can swing it, do it. If you are going to wheel it, get the Rubicon. Front and rear e-lockers make a nice addition. The transfer case is better for rock crawling and the electronic dis-connectable sway bar is nice too. I'm probably missing a few differences, but that's all I can think of other than wheels and tires. Well, the Rubicon has different gearing. 4.10 gears. That's nice. The 2012
Nice write up I stepped up to 37" thinking they would work from 35 now my fenders are in the way wife isn't too happy about me wanting to blow hundreds more on fenders plus I found many people selling stock fenders in CL for $150 they changed out their fenders with aftermarket. Even if you screw up you can get some in CL.
I think I paid 28 for my Jeep, a used 2008. The Jeep in this video was a brand new 2012 and I think it was around 34. The supercharger was about 5K for a stage II. Worth every penny.
Cool video I'm going to definitely try this. I just had a question about spray painting the body. Say I were to get a different aftermarket fender down the road, would the spray painted body show up with the different fenders on? Say bushwhackers?
Thanks for the video I may be trying this one out soon. One question though my jeeps fenders are painted ( Rescue Green). Im concerned how the black door trim you used on your black fender would look. Suggestions ?
This is by far the fastest response time I have got, appreciate it man. So you have a silver jeep then right? Also I'm still doing research on what model jeep to get. Any suggestions between Rubicon sport etc. Any major differences between 08-2013 years? Must be nice living in Colorado with all those trails
It's got a four inch lift now and is eventually going to get new fenders. This was a temporary solution / experiment to see if we could stuff 35's no lift.
As soon as I get myself one I'll join the forum and I'm sure I'll have more questions. So for the supercharger you have did you install it yourself and did it improve mpg? Thanks Charles
Do you have any lift on this at all or is it stock Rubicon with 35's? Looking to move up to 35's without having to break the bank on a lift...thanks. Great vid.
It isn't necessarily about looks (though some people including myself like it). It's about functionality. You can get a bigger tire in there without a lift.
I've been part of Jeep forums for a while now and I've never been of the diy chop fenders or the aftermarket ones. It looks weird having a huge gap and how you can see inside the fender well. It makes the jk loom cheap.
Is there any chance that I can have you do mine? :) Im here in Denver Colorado and I think i found that parking lot familiar. I'll pay for the labor! Looks AMAZING!
Hey Jessica, thanks for the compliment! Unfortunately, my schedule with work, a wife, and 2 kids doesn't allow me any extra time these days. Sorry - wish I could help!
Looked everywhere on youtube and ur the only one who explained the door trim. Does it stay on well? Did u glue it. Saw one video where they were using a heat gun on it.
Hey Charles, if you dont mind me asking how much was the out the door price of your jeep, also now that's its supercharged how's your mpg? Do you recall what it cost for it as well excluding labor. Thanks
What kind of tires are those. I am looking to buy my first Jeep (probably Sport Unlimited) next week and looking for biger tires. These on the video looks nice. What are they?? Thanks
Is there anyway or anything possible to help mold the front fender liners in the rear area to better match the shape of the frame. That 3 inch gap would bother the hell of of me.
I was originally planning on going 33" but any reason to go for the 35"s? Overall I'm planning on daily driving it and every once and a while head offroad. Auto or manual? I'm sure this depends on the individual but I'm leaning towards auto.
I just did mine today, thanks to your video. Have you had any issue with the gap between the fender liner and the fender/body? Also, have you found an aftermarket LED marker and if so, how did you install it? Thanks!
firelou17 Hi, this was my friends Jeep, he got rid of it shortly after. So, we didn't get a chance to look into LED's. If you find something, post it! As far as the gap, I don't think you'll have any issues. A lot of aftermarket fenders completely remove it, which I don't think is wise. So, you've got plenty of coverage.
This is a great video Charles, thanks for posting! Plan to do this to mine this weekend. Question on the clearance with those 35s... is that with the stock suspension?
Cool vid man. Personally I would just go for the bushwackers. I know they're more expensive then this alternative but when you spend 35k on a Rubi do you really want to be cutting your fenders ? Plus this isn't that quick (or neat) of an install, the amount of time you spent fabricating your old fenders you could have had installed the wackers and had a nice seamless look.
I have Bushwackers. The guy who owned this Jeep got rid of it and bought a 4-Runner. We were just playing with it. It was a slow day and we had beer :-)
LOL. Your comment really doesn't make too much sense... "When you spend 35k on a Rubi do you really want to be cutting your fenders?" Hmmm... versus ripping off part of what I paid 35k for and replacing them with something that will cost another grand? Ummm.... Yes, yes I would. :) Plus, if you run a full width aftermarket bumper (OR-Fab full width winch bumper in my case), there are no aftermarket flat-style flares that line up nicely with the full width length like the OEM flare does. All the after market flares are tapered in to match up with a stubby bumper.
I have 35in with no lift, I grind the fenders under extreme stopping or turning. Doing what this video suggests is a great way to eliminate rub on the fenders.
they look like bf km2s to me and i think they are 35/13.5/17. was way off on my fist rim size guess. paused the vid at 22:40 and can just make out the stamp on the tire kind of.
looks great, I have a 2012 jk stock, looking to get 35s on a 15inch wheel, gonna cut fenders to make room, do you have a lift or stock? and whats your tire and wheel size?
+Kyle Spencer We hooked up the stock side marker to a zip tie. The tire rubbed it at full articulation. The best bet is a small orange LED tucked out of the way.
What are you doing to keep the fender from flying off? Many videos I've seen use elevator bolts through the top to make up for the lost support when the outer rim of the fender flares are cut away.
can you just omit the side turn signals? do they unplug anywhere in the wiring? if there's no warning I'm going to get on my dash, i would unplug them and save them for later when I got proper fenders but omit them while i had the cut fenders
planning on doing this soon, but I want to trim mine about half width. Do you think cutting the fender right down the middle is possible(long ways), given all the frame work underneath?
+Daniel Zuckerman I'm not sure about your state laws, but if you watch to the end, we put the signal back inside of the fender and can be eventually replaced any variety of LED lights.
Thanks a million. Keeping the liners in was a big deal to me, and thanks to your simple instructions, it made me realize how easy this mod is. My Jeep looks great thanks to you.

Very smooth finish. Lots of good tips.
Great informative video. This definitely was a much better visual aid over the pictures on the jk forum. Can't wait to do this on the weekend.

Just did the rears tonight. I went to Harbor Freight here in Vegas and picked up a pneumatic metal saw, got some Fine blades and i was good to go. Only problem i had was my porter cable 6lbs tank didn't have enough balls to keep up.
Great video and description. I did my back fenders tonight.
Just finished my '14 JKUs fenders, thanks for the video.
do they move at all when you drive
Mine don't noticeably move
I personally would not have used normal spray paint. I would use bed liner for the wheel wells. It would do alot better than spray paint and would also allow for protection as well. But you did a great job.

nice job on the video and the fenders.
Sweet. I'm glad this video is helping people!
Great video. Thanks. Just put 33s on my JK and they seem to rub at full flex. This will save me $500+ that I can put towards another mod.
Money. My rig has aftermarket fenders, and this rig got sold before it got its aftermarket fenders. That being said, this is a great way to save a few bucks and still run larger tires.
Sounds like my garage... very similar playlist!
nice, i am looking into doing something like this. running 33 in boggers witha 1.5 in leveling kit and just getting a little rub when flexed out.
2012 has a new engine. It's a 3.6 instead of a 3.8. It is smoother and produces more power. If you can swing it, do it. If you are going to wheel it, get the Rubicon. I think it looks great. Nice job!!
Gotta tell me what type of rims, love those
Not a fan of cut fenders but those look really good! Kinda makes me want to cut mine now
Awesome! I hope they turned out well!
Look for planman's "Next stage in build, 40s on a 3" OME LT lift, 1" BL, & flat flares." on JeepForum
Well done!! Nice job!!

Oscar Perez Most car stores will carry clear door trim as well as black.
Nice headlamp
Thanks for the video! Thanks for muting during the cutting!

Nice video. Especially 8:36 & 8:43. What wheel size/brand are ya' runnin' on there?
It's got a four inch lift now and is eventually going to get new fenders. This was a temporary solution / experiment to see if we could stuff 35's no lift.
Very Good Job
Great video. I just might do this!
nice work

Great video will attempt to cut mine could yiu have used plastidip to paint the body instead of spray paint?
what are all the tools you used for this job... Im goin to try doing this next weekend but I dont have all the tools
For this jeep, any information in the suspension that it has? Wheel specs? Thanks once again.
i like the dog
Is there anyway or anything possible to help mold the front fender liners in the rear area to better match the shape of the frame. That 3 inch gap would bother the hell of of me.
nice jeep
I'm curious of that as well.
Well done! I hope to trim my fenders and my bumpers! Do you have issues with the liner flapping against the fender when driving?
why not cut the body under the fender for an even cleaner look and more wheel clearance?
what are weals, relative of seals? if you meant wheels then it looks like a 20 inch. tires look like 33s-35s
holy shit does that dremel have after burners
Do the front fenders flap at all since they were cut?
I was originally planning on going 33" but any reason to go for the 35"s? Overall I'm planning on daily driving it and every once and a while head offroad. Auto or manual? I'm sure this depends on the individual but I'm leaning towards auto.

What kind of beer is that on the bumper?
No, the frame is still under it. The rears are a little flimsy if anything.
GREAT JOB, MY NEXT JOB.
This is a great video Charles, thanks for posting! Plan to do this to mine this weekend. Question on the clearance with those 35s... is that with the stock suspension?
Thanks! Yes, that is stock suspension.
@@CharlesCo918 could be bad in the rear with snow chains unless one adds a hockey puck or something to where the bump stop lands.
Any Reciprocating Air Saw should do the trick for you. If you still can't find it, PM me and I'll send you a link.

I have a feeling the bushwackers would rub badly unless you add a lift.
Great Video! What size wheels are those? 17''? and you fit 35'' tires with no lift?
please let me know.
Thanks
That's correct.
I have 35in with no lift, I grind the fenders under extreme stopping or turning. Doing what this video suggests is a great way to eliminate rub on the fenders.
What rims are those? They look sick!
Thanks, they're Rugged Ridge.
The white Jeep was bone stock other than 35 inch tires at the end. BFG KM2's.
Is there a way to keep the fender liners in the back as well?
i really appreciate the video i am thinking about doing this soon, only question is do they flap at all when driving? Or are they mostly secure?
They move a little, nothing crazy. Maybe some other viewers have some feedback?
they look like bf km2s to me and i think they are 35/13.5/17. was way off on my fist rim size guess. paused the vid at 22:40 and can just make out the stamp on the tire kind of.
Been a fan*
looks great, I have a 2012 jk stock, looking to get 35s on a 15inch wheel, gonna cut fenders to make room, do you have a lift or stock? and whats your tire and wheel size?
This Jeep was running 35's no lift at the end..KM2's were the tire.
thanks, what size wheel?
TheChris1500 They're Rugged Ridge.
when you cut the fenders. what did you do with that wire that runs the side marker?
+Kyle Spencer We hooked up the stock side marker to a zip tie. The tire rubbed it at full articulation. The best bet is a small orange LED tucked out of the way.
@222CFM It probably was at 500 miles. :-)
What are you doing to keep the fender from flying off? Many videos I've seen use elevator bolts through the top to make up for the lost support when the outer rim of the fender flares are cut away.

Im looking to but 40inch tires with no lift, do you think its posible with aftermarket fenders?
planning on doing this soon, but I want to trim mine about half width. Do you think cutting the fender right down the middle is possible(long ways), given all the frame work underneath?
The only issue is that you may see that frame, but, you can always cut the frame back more if it looks bad.
+Charles Bloyer thanks for the prompt response! would it have been easier doing the actual cutting with the dremel and cutting wheel?
+paisa007 The wheel melts more than cuts IIRC.
What kind of dremel did u used?
Great video, but you really needed a lamp shining up into the wheel wells.
at the end when you were flexing on the snow pile did you knock the light of the inside of the driver side fender well?
and what size tires?
It rubbed a bit, needs to be replaced with a smaller LED, not the factory side marker.
35" KM2s
Charles Bloyer I'm running 33 :( with 2.5 lift I wonder if I would be able to use the stock light and get away with it?
Scott Dilley highly likley
Where can i get some of those inside fender guard
clips if i forgot to save them
I got mine at NAPA. If nothing else, call a Jeep dealer and get the part number for them so you can google them.
nice jeep, fucking clean
Is it legal to not have the turn signals?
+Daniel Zuckerman I'm not sure about your state laws, but if you watch to the end, we put the signal back inside of the fender and can be eventually replaced any variety of LED lights.
