I applaud you for ACTUALLY mentioning that you need to have a license to LEGALLY talk on the GMRS frequencies. Far too many think they can do whatever they want these days without following the rules.
I would just want to point out two things to check with your antenna and installation. 1. Make sure that your antenna is Non-Ground plane version due the position/mount of yours antenna. 2. Before trasmiting I would check your antenna SWR. This is important for two reasons. First, this is the easiest way for you to tell if your antenna system (coax + mount + antenna + etc) was properly installed. Second, if your SWR reading is too high (higher number = reflected, wasted power) then you can damage your radio. Finally, I wish you a good signal and successful communication :)
Thank you for the advice. And thanks for watching. It’s amazing how technical radios get and most people don’t realize what goes into having it all work together.
No one ever shows the SWR reading? Its very high! Some of the readings depending on the type of antenna was up to 11.2 to 1... I had to strap a ground strap to the frame to get the SWR down to a reasonable match. Or find an antenna that does not require a ground plain? To much reflective wave back into the radio will destroy it. Just my take on the GMRS/HAM radio installs in jeeps.
If the "get off the channel" was real that is an instance of the OTHER user not knowing the rules and regs of use. Its not THEIR channel. Its a shared FREQ. If an ACTIVE conversation is going on then YES, your should leave but if not its fair game.
Unknowledgeable , he wanted to mount the antenna on the tire . Not knowing if it needed to be on a ground plane or not . He was throwing the parts around .

Thanks, rules must be followed or it will ruin it for everyone.

Should I order the short screws for the antenna bracket if I don't have the light bar bracket?
Yes. That would be the shorter ones.

Why do you need to be licensed?
Because the fcc wants your money

This guy is a joke . He is very rough and has zero professionalism. No respect for the products. And he appears to be completely unknowable.

Sorry you’re having a bad day.
