All the years suffering...I made one of your contraptions, works like a charm. One of those deals where you say "why didn't I think of that". Thank you!
Great job. I like this much better than other options people have presented. This keeps the safety valve located on the main connection in place. Most other options remove the entire valve/safety valve and replace it with a T fitting or something. That eliminates the safety device. This is much more ingenious. Kind of going in through the out door as Led Zeppelin would say! Thanks!
I just got a tank at a garage sale. I've never used one before. I viewed several vids and I thought yours was the best of the lot. Reasonable pic with a clear sound track. Good job.
Berry Conway Buddy I am the same. I know it’s been a year since your post. You are probably a pro at it now. But I just got one a used one for $5. So I want to customize it like I want.
For most average jobs, I just stop by Costco Nitrogen stations and fill up to 80psi, would be nice to have higher pressure, but that gets me through most mobile jobs I do, as I use cordless power tools and only need air for blowing out cylinders, brakes, ect... If I find I need more pressure or more volume, I have a portable tire pump that will take it up to 120psi and can be running/filling while I'm working on other things, and it is quick to top off the tank, starting from the 80 I got from Costco.
I just found my late fathers compressor. Never in my life have I used it or have tried to. Learned so far they are refillable and now I learned to use a different hose and quick connect. Also just learned how to connect everything. What are those male valves called? is there a specific size hose I'm looking for? Thanks.
Yhanks so much for the good idea I did this with my 7 gallon tank but with no valve. I could easily add a valve later but for my use I gdont need it. Thanks again !
May you tell me will a central pneumatic nail gun work for this.I tried a central pneumatic 125 psi 2hp 8 gal air compressor and the nailer worked for it. But would the air tank you got work for the central pneumatic nail gun. Can you connect a 3/8 x 50 ft rubber air hose for this air tank cause this hose is what I use for my nail gun ?
So where did you get the shut off valve from what store. I'm thinking I could hook my nail gun up to the shut off valve for my nail gun to work. But if it don't work may you tell me what the name of the parts I need to get it to work ?
This my question too? So if I don't have a big tank then I just have to go to the air pump? How do I know when to stop filling? Is it the top of gauge end
Great tip: This video inspired me to create one of these little tools to refill the air. But I was thinking that I could possibly lose this little thing. So I am going to grab a magnet and use a hot glue gun to attack the magnet to it. When not in use I will stick it to the side of my tank.
My husband bought a pro- lift air tank and took it somewhere to fill it up. Now, I want to fill the tire on my John Deere mower but I don’t know how to proceed. What is that red disk on the top of the tank for? Do I need to adjust it before filling my tire?
Yes, the red disk is the valve that allows the air to come out of the hose. You’ll need to twist (spin) the red disk if it’s currently closed to open the valve. I’d twist it again when finished. This will close the valve, preventing air to leak out of the tank when not in use. Usually, twisting it to the left opens the valve, while twisting it to the right closes it.
What size of air compressor do i need to fill a air tank to 125 psi? The reason why I ask is my air compressor holds up to 125psi max but will only fill my air tank to 95 to 100 psi. Thanks for your video.
With most smaller home use compressors (say 20 or 25 gallon) 100-110psi is about as much as you will be able to put into a portable air tank. Im sure some will disagree and say theirs will fill to 125psi, but in my experience that's not the case. Now with a big compressor like 60gallon, that will do it for sure. That is just my experience however.
I have a portable air compressor that i use for power tools. How do i connect it to the air tank so i don't have to fill the tank at a gas station? thanks
So can you like take one of these air compressor tanks and refill it at a Gas station like you do your car as long as the air compressor his the same kinda plug a car tire has? Cause Wawa doesn't charge any money to refill your car by I'm not sure what psi you'd use lmao.
Can you use a foot-pump to add pressure to an air tank, if you have lots of free time and energy? I just want to know if its possible. If the foot pump can go up to 150 PSI and the tank goes up to 150 PSI, I would think it is possible, even if it took 10,000 foot pumps. I recently found out I can use a foot pump to add air to a slightly low car tire.
Mine is MUCH simpler. I have a male quick connect on the pressure valve. My air chuck hose has a female quick connect, as does the hose from my compressor. No monstrosity of male to male adapters and ball valves. Just plug the desired hose directly to the tank. Simple. Easy. Cheap. It would make a 30 second video.
@@jwelsh1238 awesome thanks going to go get them today! 👍 last weekend went out of town and had tired kept going low this weekend haveimg my air tank with me
I looked this idea up and found your video. Great idea but thinking maybe asking a check valve on a Tee fitting and the air fills tank up and then the other line coming out the Tee fitting can use to for tires ect. But I'm thinking. Stationary not portable. So portable this is best idea but I'm trying to make a stationary which idk why cause I have 2 stationary compressor but maybe someone else that only has this can use that idea. That's only if it will work. I'm gonna try today just to see what the outcome is.
@@bobgilbertson4527 your so right about that. I try to always check the inside of any air tanks for rust and if there really bad off there garage. But i 100% agree with you
Not even close, these tanks are hydrostaticly tested to at least 5x the “rated max pressure” and need to hold 5 x the pressure for 5 minutes or so before they’re sold to us, usually anyways some cheap ones probably found a way around that
I unscrewed the main fitting with a small amount of pressure behind it, not enough to register on the gauge. Shot the main fitting across the room and made a loud noise. If cranked up to 100 PSI, the result could be ugly.
All of these tanks come with an over pressure release valve integrated into the manifold that is screwed into the tank, I believe it is a regulatory requirement. Watching the video, I could see the ring from the pressure relief valve momentarily become visible, most of the time it is hidden by the manifold itself.

jwelsh1238, Been using that "valve & 2 male fittings" for maybe 50 years or more. My compressor went bad, could not find parts for it, remodeled my whole air supply from scratch. On the portable tank, I used a check valve. www.amazon.com/Control-Devices-Brass-Check-Female/dp/B007IVRPZC. Now I can put my valve & 2 male fittings gadget to rest. Simply plug the female coupler to it, unplug it. Walk away and your done. I don't have to keep tabs on the special adapter anymore.
Jacob Franklin I haven’t watched this video in a good while. I probably didn’t mention that, since you said that. I usually regulate my air hose at the big tank also. Idk if I say that in the video either. Thanks for the comment.

Great. I got tired of lugging around my air compressor. So I grabbed one of those portable tanks. Did your set up and it works great.

Go to the hardware store and say do you have air compressor fittings
Is it normal for air to escape at the shutoff valve on the portable tank when it's in the open position?
Good information thumbs up

No, but the air will go in warmer so it will lose a tiny bit more pressure as it cools compared to a slower fill.
