    Thank you very much for making these videos and for offering the most effective gopher trap I've tried. Between your instructions and the tips offered by Gunnar in Minnesota's videos, I have been able to get my gopher issues under control! Thank you very much!

    Excellent video! Over the years I've used similar techniques. I've not tried the peanut butter -I use a piece of carrot or a green onion but I will start using the PB from now on. I also like the trap used in the video vs. the Maccabee trap. This one has a smaller cross section. A couple of possible additional items: When you replace the plug of turf make sure there's no light entering around the edges of the plug. They will push dirt into the area if there's any light at all coming in. I also stake down the traps with a steel wire attached securely to the trap. Started doing that when coyotes chewed through the fabric cord I used initially. If there's a single hole, dig it out and place the trap at least 18" into the tunnel. I then use rigid black plastic sheets to cover the opening and seal out the light. I don't like killing any of God's creatures but I draw the line at gophers. In the last year I've lost $500+ trees, vegetables and turf grass

    Good info...myself and the hardware employees had some trouble figuring out the basic macabee trap (the trigger bar has to go under and be completely pulled up and centered which is the key). Found the burrow in lawn yesterday, set the trap, and just nailed the gopher today!

    What are those 4 holes in front of where you set the traps? I have those holes all around my yard in the same locations of where the mole activity is. The holes look like they have been a cave in in some places. But it is weird because the holes are PERFECTLY round. Is a racoon or a possum or a skunk trying to get in the tunnels?

    @albanstv I learned this the hard way. Wasn't sure if it was a gopher or a mole because the dirt was so dry/sandy and located on a steep hill which didn't provide sufficient evidence which animal it was. I ended up buying the regular size mole trap and it was ineffective due to the gopher size. I have now bought the gophinator set since then and it is like night and day. Got my first catch the same day, thanks for this awesome device, it is well designed.

    Such a valuable video. I love your traps and have killed hundreds of gophers with them. Any suggestions when you are trapping in very sandy soil. I notice they fill back the holes more often and the traps don't get set off.

    • @troyswarts7353

      You have to make sure you get a main run preferably running two directions branching off the ejection hole where the dirt mound is. You place a trap on L and R side of entry hole you dig, cover and wait. Also helps to wear gloves so you don’t leave your scent.

  • @tstfrd

    I have bought several of your traps and they are excellent!! I always remove the gophers, but someone told me I should bury the gopher in his hole and this will make the other gophers leave the area. What do you recommend?

    • @davidgreve1081
      @davidgreve1081 7 лет назад +1

      tstfrd , Not an option unless you want to spend quite a bit of money on more traps, and still deal with further infestations. They will move, but still do their damages, and possibly return 6 months from then to the same area.

    Good video. I have trapped 7 that were destroying two lawns. The Peanut Butter trick is awesome. Took me two times to do it right. And, I used two old type traps. Two good looking lawns now. I also bury the carcass in the hole. Don't know if it works, but it seems to make kinfolk pack their bags and move somewhere else. Also, you are right, probe and find their tunnels, don't get fixed on their opening.

    This is not meant to be offensive, I'm curious. Is it possible for other animals to ingest and be harmed by 2-4-D? I've never lived in an area that dealt with infestations. I saw a picture of a house cat that had it's arm removed and it said it was due to a mole trap. Are they really that powerful and damaging? With the way Stephen Albano did his work, it seems safe to say another animal is not likely to get injured...but still...I'm a cat person and that makes me sad.

    jmjohnson, from your description, it sounds like you have "voles", which are also known as "field mice". They leave very round, very clean, open holes with vegetation cropped back very short around the perimeter of the hole.

    trapperjoe, no, the gopher traps are bigger than the large mole traps, as gophers are a bigger animal than moles. The mole size traps(either standard or large size, as they're pretty close) will work well for juvenile gophers. You really need the gopher size trap for adult gophers. Thanks. -Steve

    The reason why it's high percentage catch is because the gopher walks straight into the the trap per the tunnel. I'm seriously considering not ever purchasing poison or the "gasser" bomb because the trap is very effective. Some other video with two sonic noise deterrents did not work brand new.

    You don't need BAIT And I leave the holes open....I don't know if it's the light or air that brings them in....I also use 2 traps 1 in each direction of the same hole.....I placed the trap and caught some in 20 minutes......THESE TRAPS ARE GREAT...... Before these traps I use Flares.posion, diesel exhaust from my tractor .I tried to drown them...Shoot them when they pushed dirt up......About 6 different things to kill them and nothing worked as well as these TRAPS....😁😁😁😁😁

    really i only said what i did so that if your pocket gopher problem was extremely bad, using 2-4D laced peanut butter could actually be a good alternative to serve your pesky gopher control problem needs. but using the idea thats in the video is also a good way to go too. and knowing gophers their just like squirrels, and squirrels love nuts including nut based products like peanut butter

  • @derekwall82
    @derekwall82 12 лет назад

    id just use peanut butter laced with 2-4-D to rid my 8 acre backyard of pocket gophers. and i could use agent orange as well to get the job done but 2-4-D is like agent orange except it has a lower dioxin content and its more deluted. And why id use chemicals or poison bait is because i find that more effective than blasting, shooting, or using small rodent traps

      I have gophers and moles in my yard from time to time. I had dirt mounds and run over him with the lawn mower. Big deal. The Grass grows over it again. And once in awhile I see the creatures and enjoy seeing them. Now you think they are useless. Rodents her vital part of the ecosystem. They help with new growth of plants. Since a Rodan is a hoarder of seeds and store them underground they often forget where they put them which allows new plants to grow. The only thing that is useless on this Earth is a person like yourself. It's people like you with small brains that do more damage to this earth than any creature could ever do.
