Learn more about the music:
Jayanthi Kumaresh takes her audiences on a voyage of Raag Kamavardhini in this clip extracted from her performance at the Darbar 2013 festival. Also known as Pantuvarali, Kamavardhini is a 51stmelakarta raga that deploys all notes with a flat 3rd and 7th and a raised 4th. Hindustani classical enthusiasts may want to draw references from Raag Puriya Dhanashri while listening to this recital.
A pioneer in her instrument, Kumaresh explores the raga, revealing its phrases with depth and tranquil; The devotion and valour in Kamavardhini is brought out with subtle as well as pronounced ornamentations in the elaborations.
The composition, ‘Shiva, shiva, shiva, enaraadaa’ is a composition by Saint Tyagaraja (1767-1847). Set to Adi Tala, it soars to delightful strata with Patri Satish Kumar and RN Prakash joining in on the mridangam and ghatam respectively. Kumaresh’s ability to use the lower strings simultaneously on her veena to create a harmony-like effect throughout a Carnatic performance without bending any rules of the tradition is like manna to the ears.
Musicians
Jayanthi Kumaresh (saraswati veena)
Patri Satish Kumar (mridangam)
RN Prakash (ghatam)
Mithila Sarma (tanpura)

10:13 That Thanam-esque riff using all the three strings of the veena was absolutely mind blowing, such power and majesty it displayed, truly a divine instrument. And as an insanely talented wielder, Dr. Jayanthi Kumaresh exploits each and every aspect of the veena to produce the most amazing sounds. Blessed by Saraswati herself 🙏

Is this greater oscillation of the string (microtones or comas) due to the higher height of the frets?
Hi marcos aquino, Thank you for your message, I am so sorry I do not know this information. I wonder if someone reading these comments can help us.
@@darbarfestival thankful .
yes, sort of, the black beeswax is first laid out in a thick slab on both sides of the fret board (akin to a railway track, there is a hollow lane in the middle), after which the brass frets are placed and secured, then the maker scallops the spaces in between the frets so there is room to pull the strings. Usually you can pull up to 5 to 6 notes from a single fret on the veena.
Heaven ❣️ heaven ❤️ heaven 💖

Wtf are you trying to prove by your ridiculous comment?
FYI it’s not “primer” it should be “premier” get your vocabulary right first before making foolish comments! Primer is something you apply as a base coat on walls or any other surface!

Thyagaraja has always been considered a saint. His devotional compositions on which Carnatic Music is mostly based, would not have been possible without divine inspiration and intense devotion. In Hinduism in India a person is recognised as saint during the saint's lifetime by people based on his divine qualities, unlike in christianity where only a dead person is promoted to the post of 'saint' by the vatican only a few decades after the death of that person being promoted as 'saint' for political reasons. Today christianity is trying to enter carnatic music to muddy it with christian themes along with a propoganda against Hinduism. To say that ' Thyagaraj is not a saint' is part of this insidious christian propoganda.
How long till you stop recycling same old videos ?
Dear Shounak Hinge,
thanks for your message - I will pass the feedback onto our team.
As you know, the Covid Pandemic has meant that we have been unable to do film for over a year. I am sure that you are aware that for the first time ever, we had to cancel our festival last year also.
