    Thanks for your review, Vlad! I ordered an SVX90T a couple of weeks ago (hopefully it will be shipping soon) after purchasing/receiving a mass-produced 90mm f/5.6 refractor that came complete with chipping paint from one of the lens retaining rings, a broken case, and stars from hell. I'm sure I just got a bad copy because many folks are very happy with theirs, but since the quality control of those mass-produced scopes is so abysmal and good copies are so hit-and-miss, I vowed never to buy a mass-produced refractor again. I have a 107mm mass-produced refractor -- the 2nd one after having to return the first copy -- that I use for imaging and I'm pretty happy with it but I imagine once I look through the SVX90T and use it for imaging, I might not be as happy with it. I have to say, the SVX90 honestly wasn't much more money than the mass-produced scope I ordered. Anyway, it was great to hear such a positive review of these scopes from someone with so much experience with scopes from many different manufacturers. Thanks again!

    • @AVTAstro
      @AVTAstro  4 месяца назад +1

      Thats the thing about mass produced. Some are truly as good as a Tak or a AP. Some are quite poor(I have ran across a few in my scope journey). Congrats on the SVX!!!

    I recently picked up an older model SV102ED with a Feathertouch focuser. Not sure if it’s the Russian glass (don’t know how to find out if possible). I am strictly a visual observer. Would it be a step up to go with the new SVX 102D and trade in my SV102ED or just keep what I have? I’m relatively new to all this. Thanks for all the videos , I’m learning a lot

    Interesting video. I own a Svbony 102/714 mm FPL51 doublet which is very nice but I am thinking about buying a Svbony 122/854 mm FPL51 triplet or a 8 inch dobsonian just for visual observations (not astrophotography). Which one should I choose ? Which one would you choose between those two ? The refractor is more expensive but money doesn’t matter. I would really like to know your personal opinion, thank you :)

    • @AVTAstro
      @AVTAstro  4 месяца назад +2

      In all honesty the 122mm will not show you anything substantially diffrent from your 102mm. Considering you already have a decent refractor I would easily do the 8"(though I'd get an SCT and not a dob in that size).

    • @lornaz1975

      @@AVTAstro No not the optics the telescope itself. The donor scope for the optics. I don't know about the optics. I believe for their top scopes they make the optics in house. My impression that is. I could be wrong.

      I've got a 110mm WO/TMB triplet APO. It's the version that came without the digital focus display. Turns out, I had to replace the focuser anyway because the dual speed fine focus on the stock WO focuser quit working. I replaced it with a Feathertouch focuser. Optically, mine has excellent optics and it is my most used refractor, due to having decent optical "punch" while remaining easily portable and useable on a manual alt-az mount for quick Winter viewing sessions.

    I've always been a little wary of Stellarvue, but they are probably OK. Just the whole sourcing of the optics was always a thing discussed about them. Sometimes it seemed like a mystery where the optics were coming from. However, I've never owned or looked through one. I guess as long as you know what you are getting it's all good. I like the Astrotech line that Astronomics puts out. Astronomics always seemed very honest with what they sell. Of course they also fund Cloudynights and are a real benefit to the community.

      Actually, not really! The shorter focal length scopes are honestly not much more money than you'd pay for a mass-produced scope of a similar aperture. If you're a veteran, it's even better because you get a discount, which I took advantage of when I recently purchased my SVX90T. (See my comments...)
