Edradour/Ballechin is one of my Top 5 favorite distilleries. One of the most distinct distillates in all of Scotch. They do have some wild, seemingly random, caskings instead of sticking to a core lineup, but its admirable that a maker with such little output experiments as much as they do.
I respect Edradour/Signatory just due to the fact that they're sourcing and using good quality casks, especially sherry. I know a lot of their drams can be very cask heavy but man, no doubting their cask selection.
Being a fan of the Straight from the Cask ,10 yr @59.1% ABV, and after listening to your review I decided to open my bottle and having a dram now. Good stuff Indeed My Bottle was ordered from Hard to Find Whisky to Haiti cost me 147$ .
I have the same bottle (batch 2). Agree with the sulfur notes, but those have subsided after opening up for almost a year. This one requires patience. Old school indeed, and I'm jealous you bought it for 100 bucks. I had to pay more than that plus shipping out of UK to US. I love giving a pour to friends, to showcase a "sherry extreme" whisky. I like it for its uniqueness, but I don't look for it every time.
I've had this in my basket online all week but haven't pulled the trigger yet as I was still being indecisive. Clicked on RUclips and look what pops up, the worlds second best whisky channel to jump in and cement the buy 🐋
I've got the "Edradour 22 Years Oloroso Finish 1999/2021" which is awesome as well. I will have to try this one. I like what that distillery has to offer. Thanks for the review
I’ve only had the standard ballechin and Caledonia. The sulphur funk is present in both but the sherry influence takes it over the top in the best way. The Caledonia really integrates cask and spirit interplay, and while I’d love to explore their whole lineup, their prices get crazy very quickly.
Sounds like a good one. I like Edradour quite alot, it got loads of personality. Wish that this one appears in Sweden sometime, with a fair price tag on it...I would definitely buy it🍷cheers
I’m the same as you, I still like sherried whisky but the past year or so I’ve been drinking less so I wasn’t thinking of grabbing this one… until you mentioned the tart berries, funk + it not being too sweet and now I’m really interested 😅
Thanks for the review. I would pick that bottle up if it was in my Market here in Ontario, Canada. I was wondering, what are you doing at: 4:31 ? I have seen you do that motion before and always wondering. Salute!
Yeah it does nothing. In videos I used to separate palate and finish, and I used the dramatic "breathing out" movement to visually differentiate the two and to show I was on the finish. I've since combined palate and finish into one segment, but I kept doing it because I'm a pretentious ****. 😉🥃
I like Edradour but I find their profile has a yeasty, funky side that can be a bit much. Similar to how I find the Springbank 15 - they're not every day, session drams, that's for sure. That said, it's genuine 'craft' whisky that uses good casks and they are reasonably priced.
Alright. I'm convinced. I will add it to the list. Glad to see some old-school sherry bombs again hehe You really gotta review the Bimber batch 4 Buddy 😁 Great review and work as always my friend🥃🎩🥃🎩
Sounds like an interesting whisky, but it doesn't seem to be available in my market. I like sherried whisky, but I have to be in the right mood for the really big sherry bombs. Cheers!
2:08 speaking of butts… you know you can train spice tolerance for both the entrypoint and exitpoint of the spice? Well, if you didnt you do now. Just think of it like high abv, but for your exit 😂
Totally new to the channel and love your work. In the last 2 days I have ordered myself Ardnamurchan AD, Glenglassaugh Sandend, Benriach The sixteen and Port Charlotte 10
@ no difference, in South America I found they never use cocoa powder for hot chocolate preferring cocoa mass, so they wouldn’t think of cocoa powder if you asked for cocoa they’d think of some form of cocoa solid. They do an amazing hot chocolate and dump a square of mozzarella in it that melts yummy
Nice review, G. I've been curious about the brand but don't see a lot in NY. One of my stores does have a single barrel 10yr shry csk 118.4pr. Seems like a good gamble at $81. What do you think? Cheers

Nice review, edradour is an old school distillery, funky, complex, like it. Thanks Geoff
Kavalan, nobody does sherry better than them. I went to the tasting room in Taipei in November and my mind was blown. Favorite distillery ever.
Nice! Edradour, one of my top3 favorite distilleries, let’s do this!
I love the old wood dirty dusty funky umami taste
Great design of the bottle. I enjoy sulfare notes, it's pretty cool.
Interesting! I do like the Caledonia quite a bit - looking forward to trying a dram of this sometime @gwhisky!
Easy fix... I'll bring it tonight! 😜

I'm so glad they keep their core releases minimal, I'm all about the huge variety of single casks in different wine casks
Yeah it's cool. They're hard to pin down, but that's not a bad thing! 🥃

I tried an Edradour 10 bottle once, loved it, then haven’t been able to find another since.
Suggestion for a review. Staying in line with Edradour: a Ballechin SFTC release. Really enjoyable stuff too.
Agreed! If Edradour is a beast, Ballechin is a monster. The 12yo SFTC is like a trip to a mad pharmacist's basement. In a good way😄
Batch 4 is also a beautiful whisky, and also “not sweet”. Great review, as always!

Hooray to Sherry bomb review!
One of my favorite distillery. Cheers !
Agree. Edradour makes great stuff! Cheers my friend. 🥃

Yeah I think you'll like this one. Even the "non-bomber" crowd can get behind something on this level. Cheers Ash! 🥃
Dirty funky Sherry - what a summer that was 👍
I do love me some Edradour, unfortunately every bottle I’ve had is gone. A friend has this one you’re reviewing, I’ll have to go crush his bottle.
That's what she said 😂😂😂😂😂
Weird question; were you in Ho Chi Minh city in the mid to late 90s?
Uh, no I was in high school. 😂
Thanks for the review. I would pick that bottle up if it was in my Market here in Ontario, Canada. I was wondering, what are you doing at: 4:31 ? I have seen you do that motion before and always wondering. Salute!

Great review and work as always my friend🥃🎩🥃🎩
Yeah that Bimber deserves a review. Too long of a backlog. Hard life, this. 🥃
I noticed it was more acidic on my palette when I compared it to other sherry. I wonder if it was the sulfur that I noticed
Sounds like an interesting whisky, but it doesn't seem to be available in my market. I like sherried whisky, but I have to be in the right mood for the really big sherry bombs. Cheers!
12y sherry buts or 10y sftc - that's the question wich should I chose
I'd probably get this one. 🥃
Dirty Funky Sherry is my favourite reggae album
How does it measure up against Teh Bunna 12 CS?
I like this more than the 2023. The 2022 was my favourite, but the funk in this is something to behold. Might edge out even that one. 🥃
@@Gwhisky Hmmmmmmm, might have to consider this one in that case. Bunna '22 I had to stock up on. Absolute belter.
Sounds like it’s got sherry-tiscular fortitude

Well done. 😂
Boss G. ! Ed had not returned to Ontario since 2010... i remember it as Kavalan-ish, with that saccharin-sweet DNA
It's got the Kavalan weight, but not as sweet. Wait... 2010? Wut? ZERO Edradour at the LCBO?
Cheers 🥃

I think in general edredour Now a days release are much better than What it was .
Had this sometime before covid. Regretted not buying more😊
Which glenlivet bottlings are you talking about when you say some are going in that same direction of dark sherry?
Usually the Signatory IBs.
Thanks for reviewing Geoff
I'll play the pacifist today: no bombs please.
Slàinte mhath
Lol copy that. 🥃
Somehow I can’t find this bottle on Whiskybase? Anyone it’s id? Thanks!

Can't it be both? 🤔

I speak Spanish as a second language but I always say cocoa -I consider English speakers who say cacao as pricks
Lol
Lol is it even the same thing? I assumed there was a difference...
Now I don’t know, does ‘cocoa’ indicate anything without specifying powder, bean, plant..?
Wife said if she heard cacao in Colombia she’d first think of cocoa beans and second something sexual like a favour or offer! Lol

$190 cad in Alberta, I have the FOMO but just too much. Maybe I will break out my last bottle of Glen Garioch 1999 sherry cask for a dirty sherry fix
A problem and solution in one quick comment. I like this. ⬆
NOW GEOFF U SAID SHERRY BOMB IM ALL 👂 😊🥃
$100 ?? Try $500 in Canada...
I'd move to another country on principal. 😉
Well, this is a strange one. Can't say it sounds like my style.
Seems like a lot of 88s. What's the lowest and highest scores ever?
The Signatory version isn’t sweet either - funky interesting whisky
