  • A synth pioneer and adventurous electronic composer since the early ‘80s, Suzanne Ciani has defied assumptions about genre, sound design and technical knowledge ever since. Ciani’s ongoing romance with the synthesizer started with a Buchla, and her skills to create synthetic sounds made her one of the first sound designers, when the concept of sound design didn’t even exist. She is the creator of the sonic blueprint of brands like Atari, ABC and General Electric and she is proof that technology is not exclusively masculine.
Suzanne Ciani spoke at Sónar+D 2017 with Tatsuya Takahashi, one of the world’s foremost experts when it comes to analog electronics. After working as a chief engineer at Korg, developing series such as Monotron and Volca and the Minilogue, recently, synth pioneer Takahashi has taken on a new role hosting Red Bull Music Academy lectures.

I thought I'd leave a comment on Eurorack modules since I use Behringer System 100 modules. These are a recreation of the Roland System 100M (1978) but in Eurorack format. It is always easy to see what is going on, very easy to use and a testament to Roland's original, brilliant design!

Amazing! So great that got Tats to do it... He's the perfect person for interviewing such a legend. I hope they get him to redo a whole bunch of Lectures that were ruined by other interviewers... ~Cough~ Torsten Schmidt ~Cough~

“I designed sounds for the DX7” not many people can just casually say that

“[Buchla] broke and couldn’t be fixed” - it’s not exactly alien technology. Anyone competent in analog electronics should be able to fix it, whether now or back then. As long as “broke” didn’t mean “caught on fire” - I really wonder why it couldn’t be fixed. Perhaps the manufacturer decided not to support it anymore? Still, plenty of talented people out there who could fix it back then and even now.

Suggestions? You don't always have to use voltage control Suzanne, you can also use MIDI to control your effects. I recommend Sony DPS-V55 four channel processor. It would be perfect for your quadraphonic setup.

Dear Suzanne Ciani, you could have sung, played the guitar, very easily. God bless for not selling your soul to the Lucifer though.

Huh? I can make sounds to ...........sell products. I think that is what is called selling one's soul.

Wow, that woke Asian 'dude' should not be there to conduct this interview.. Suzanne is a dear diamond he should respect. It does not mean he should not ask hard questions, but not in this manner..
