How can you think of travelling without a local sim an internet. Buying a local prepaid card is the first thing to do no matter how small your trip is. The 10 to 20 euros for a monthly prepaid card will suffice and help you in seeing historic spots and finding restaurants. Hop on hop off is the best way to see any european city in quick 2 or 3 days. Visiting in local trams and underground trains will kill yoir time and you wont be able to see the city while transit. Collosuem is a must watch from inside. I am surprised you guys have missed it. Roman forum is also muct watch. Try to do research about history of rome by watching sone you tube videow before actually visiting and then you will able to relate the places much better.
