- During Israel’s invasion of Lebanon in 2006, its generals realised they couldn’t fight Hezbollah on the ground.
So they resorted to a campaign of psychological warfare: “The Dahiyeh Doctrine”.
If it inflicted enough damage on the Lebanese people, Israel believed they would rise up and overthrow their rulers.
But it didn’t work, and despite ultimately losing the war, Israel would continue to implement this strategy in every conflict, especially in Gaza.
And now that it’s invading Lebanon once again, it’s resorting to the same brutal tactics.
This week on The Big Picture, we examine why Israel lost the 2006 Lebanon War, and why it’s repeating the very same mistakes today.

But the atom bombs killed so many of us that their deaths were later justified because it "brought peace" to the world. In other forums, I have likened Israel's behavior to that of a serial killer - persistent escalation enabled by the absence of any effective constraint. The serial killer escalates in pursuit of a fantasized satisfying outcome. But that outcome is never reached, so escalation continues. For decades Israel has escalated while facing nothing more than some vague doubts raised by the US and European nations. Israel has escalated like a serial killer. @@YaatikSkhana lol, lets say that Hezbollah were getting destroyed and demolished and Israel was winning the war, Hezbollah went and begged for a cease fire, why would Israel accept a cease fire if they can continue and destroy Hezbollah, the answer is they were far from destroying Hezbollah they thought by killing the commanders they can destroy Hezbollah and enter Lebanon easily they were surprised that Hezbollah was ready for the war, 62 days and all they reached was al Khayyam 5km away from the occupied Palestinian boarders even in 2006 they were able to invade more lands, so with all these facts given Israel wasn't ready to enter a war with Hezbollah they knew it was impossible especially with the fact their soldiers been fighting for 1 year in Gaza and were exhausted , therefore Israel failed in the invasion so they used another strategy and it is to over throw Bashar al Assad because Syria is Hezbollah main recourse for weapons, again in conclusion I've never heard in history a side that's winning the war would accept ceasefire from the weak side, so Israel basically again lost the 2024 war.

This was in 2006 and I literally have no knowledge about this, but the way the Israelis are "fighting" the Hezbollah is very much the same way they fought the war against Hezbollah almost 2 decades ago. They really haven't learned.

Like many things in the region the view from the West is extremely murky but it seems they went into Syria to defend Ba'athism, a pan-Arabist movement (one Syrian strand of which is a military dictatorship headed by Bashar Al Assad) as well as to defend the Lebanese border against Al Nusra, ISIS & whichever uprising USA chose to foment. The number of actors in Syria was staggering & their allegiances kept shifting.

i survived a bomb in lebanon in 2006.. it was very scary, im from tripoli. we stayed for 3 weeks after then took a 12 hour taxi drive to syria airport. every day was gun shosts, planes and helicopters sounds

I think that your characterization of the 'uprising' in Syria against Assad as a "popular uprising" is wrong. It was pretty obviously an attempt at a 'colour revolution' funded and supported by USA and possibly British secret state actors. My Syrian friends at the time who joined protests against Assad because of rising food and fuel costs, soon joined the Syrian army and fought for him and his government. They were disillusioned when snipers shot both protestors and Syrian police trying to maintain order, just as happened later in Ukraine. If the so called 'rebels' had not been funded, trained, and armed by countries outside Syria, the Syrians would have solved their problems with much less loss of life and destruction of infrastructure. I think Hezbollah saw that Israel and USA were behind the conflict in Syria, just as they were behind the war in Lebanon.
For a bit of history and context look up "Mouawiya Syasneh". I think Al Jazeera made a documentary about him.

I think the subject of this topic is important, but there's a blatant skewing of facts, such as claiming Hezbollah was created in 1985, while in fact it was 1982 (they bombed the American embassy and a barracks, Killing hundreds and permanently putting Lebanon on a black list).
Its main benefactor was Iran, not as an anti imperialistic revolution, more specifically the Iran islamic revolutionary guard... and Lebanese people, while not fighting Hezbollah directly, would very much prefer Not to have them in the country.
It would be preferable to be more objective in such videos.
