Also, even assuming she could fit then although the car can carry more weight, it is not safe to have it unevenly distributed as it would be over one corner of the car...and we get to the old tyres that the driver was talking about.
Not only that, but some smaller cars do have weight limits for what they can reasonably or safely carry. My aunt weighed easily 500 lbs, and my mom contacted the manufacturer for her car after a pretty harrowing ride with her one day (the car was leaning dangerously to one side), and even the manufactuerur said it was too much weight to put on one side of the car.

Lawyers are the embodiment of "Devil's Advocate" here. Under the law there, he can't discriminate on her weight, but this just goes to show that we need to have reasonable boundaries because I bet Lyft wouldn't pay for damages done to the car if she did damage tires or suspension
Bruh. If you're that big, you have to buy two seats on a plane. If I own a restaurant, I can refuse you service for any reason. Same thing with Lyft. My car, my rules.
This is-going to offend someone no doubt, but why would you deny her a table at a restaurant? You would make so much off her meals, she could be the only person served that night and they would still make a profit.
If she knew about her weight why didn’t she just request a Lyft XL in the first place like a suv or a truck why she request a regular small car something not adding up
As a woman who used to weigh 260lbs that woman is a total disgrace. She knew she should have ordered an XL vehicle but she was being cheap and didnt car about safety or any possible damage.
I’m a former security officer that’s worked inside a Trauma l hospital. If a patient is too big to fit inside the CT scanner, they’re sent to get it done at the local zoo to get it done with their scanner. They reschedule the appointment and everything. edit: saw some people referring to me as he in the comments i’m actually a woman lol
@MyaHothyes, it’s not dehumanizing it’s for safety. Most of the time, depending on your location, a CT scanner at a zoo could be 20 minutes away while a bariatric machine could be over 2 hours away.
My buddy and I in law school looked at the law and found that height, weight, and a couple others only apply to the Michigan Employment discrimination laws, not service accommodations. Looks like she has bad lawyers
i hope it does make it to court so her and her slimy lawyer would be laughed right out of the court room and have to pay him for damages caused by the lawsuit
I'm 5'3" and 8½ years ago, I weighed 200 lbs. I did a lot of hard work working out with weights and changing my eating habits in order to change my reality. There were days when I cried during my workouts (I work out at home). It was hard. But by becoming fit, I gave up a lot of things that were also hard. Things like self-pity, physical misery, and feeling defeated and tired all the time. People who go around crying about how others are "fat phobic" are, in actuality, running away from their responsibility for their own health.
I was an engineer for over 40 yrs. I can assure you that NO passenger car is designed to haul a 500 lb person safely. This goes for the suspension, the brakes, the seat belts, the airbags, the seats... Hell, this gelatinous abomination would have destroyed the poor guys seat. She should just rent a forklift.
As a former morbidly obese woman, I would have made sure the vehicle i needed could accommodate me. There will never be anything good about being fat, I'm glad I've lost 240 lbs naturally.
Congratulations on your weight loss!! As someone who's also large and trying to lose, I totally relate to you. Excellent work you've done, and hopefully you keep on going until you reach whatever goal you've chosen. Good health to you!
"age, sex, height, weight" How the hell can this be constitutional? So kids of certain height can ride any park attraction? Kids can drink alcohol? Elevators can't have weight limits? That absolutely cannot be constitutional.
I’m 5’3”, and trained extensively as a dancer (various disciplines) throughout my entire childhood & into my mid-20s. No matter how talented I was, I could never become a Rockette because I am too short. Period. The difference is, I could accept the fact that there is a specific aesthetic that needs to be adhered to, and although I can’t do much about my height, it’s the reality.
In all seriousness, in an ER I worked in (major Midwest city), we had to send patients above a certain weight or body size to a local zoo for CT or MRI. People would be offended, but we didn’t have equipment to handle them. It was sad and I’m sure very humiliating. But we did what we had to do.
if I were that driver, I wouldn’t have told her why. I actually AM a Lyft driver, and I know for a fact that I can deny anyone a ride anytime for any reason. It is MY choice. So, I understand why he said what he did…but personally I would’ve cancelled without talking to her!
Lyft is calling the drivers actions "unacceptable" so just letting you know, they should cover your damage expenses then if they wanna act like that... just my opinion.
Once he noticed she was the passenger, he should not have even stopped if he was still moving. He could have pretended not to notice her, then cancel and drive off. Then he could go offline until he got out of that area so he wouldn't get her again.
Seat belt extenders violate the safety code as the fabric of the seatbelt and attachment points etc can't cope . Remember, a crash means it has to hold against multiples of their weight. Five point harness is recommended.
That’s exactly what happens. If there’s no bariatric equipment nearby, they’ll use a zoo because the machines can handle that much weight. I worked at a hospital that didn’t have bigger machines. The zoo is 20 minutes away but the nearest bariatric facility is over two hours away.
Too bad for her that these drivers are independent contractors . They don’t have to accept riders for no specific reason. They can just say no. And from now on this man has learned that don’t say why just go away. 😂
Won't have to worry about any of that because her weight after you blow the tire will cause the car to flip several times killing you. Her blobs will probably protect her from the impact though.
That car is lowered- look at the video!! The car is 2 inches off the ground!!! 500lbs on one side could absolutely cause the car to drag!! This is RIDICULOUS
She got a reality check. I live here in the Detroit area. I was also a Lyft and Uber driver. And if most people do not know, Michigan has some of the worst roads in the nation…..
💯 The potholes alone will ruin someone's suspension here in SW Detroit. I wouldn't have let her big azz in my car either. I'm no skinny Minnie, but I don't blame anyone. I take accountability by eating better & exercising.
I love your videos, so real and on point. Too many delusional people these days, and on the other side, too many people scared to voice the truth in fear of being labeled or ridiculed for it. Keep it up!! ❤
The sad part of all of this is that poor Lyft driver may be banned from driving for them because of this, just Lyft can look good. She could be causing him to lose his form of income that supports himself and his family all because she chooses to not take care of herself. The reality is that she's wider than the opening to his car.
I am morbidly obese. I was over 400 lbs at one point. At that time, I was limited in my mobility due to some other issues that were unrelated to my weight. I would NEVER in my life consider doing this. I am still very over weight. I've lost some, but I have a lot more to go. I can not with these people who think life owes them! This woman can't look in the mirror and say- DEAR LORD WHERE DID I GO SO WRONG? Because I know, damn good and well she is in constant pain. I know because I am. The pain isn't as bad because she's young. The older she gets, the more everything will hurt.
I hit 412, but I'm also 6'4". Since realizing that food is not my friend, but a lieing enemy trying to kill me, I've lost 160 lbs. Keep at it! You can win!
She's so insufferable and entitled. If Lyft cares so much about cases like her, then they should be liable for any damages done to their employee's cars.
poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part. Poor planning of your weight does not give you the right to put your problem on others
@@JohnnyHalifax777not really. I'm petit and cannot do certain things other people can. So I get denied to do certain jobs. Is it fair? No but I don't cry on social media about it.
@JohnnyHalifax777 rollercoaster rides discriminate based on height all the time. If your height makes an activity unsafe, it's valid for people to refuse you service.
But what if someone discriminates against you for a job of which you are qualified because you are overweight, not severely obese, but just overweight.
Your videos are always done with a high level of class and professionalism. Which Is appreciated. I would say for the company lyft and the driver to use your video as substantial evidence.
So she is going to destroy this drivers life because she can not control her weight. What an awful person, and the lawers are just disgusting for entertaining this lawsuit.
Oh, she CAN control her weight. She *chose* (and *continues to choose* ) to be beyond morbidly obese. Yes, some people will never hit "runway model" body fat (nor should they). MOST people won't hit that without dangerous habits. But 500 lbs ain't a muffin top.
Lyft, Uber, Instacart, Doordash & all of these services are all handled by private contractors. The "employees" are paid as private contract workers. Personally they are responsible for their vehicles, not the company. If something happened to the driver's vehicle, a car accident, suspension being ruined, tires blowing, that's on the driver, not the company they are working for. "Employees" have the right to cancel work & they have the right to protect their assets. Insane that she thinks that the driver can be held liable. He has the right to refuse service. Maybe some of that embarrassment she was feeling should have made her realize it's time to make some lifestyle changes.
I’m so thankful that you found those clips of evidence especially the one about her own warped self perception. I pray the driver gets an excellent lawyer and sue her and lyft for mental anguish and wrongful termination.
Ridiculous discrimination lawsuits like this really tarnish all discrimination lawsuits. IMO, she knows she wasn't discriminated against...her feelings are hurt and she wants that bag.
The rules may have changed, but when I was a Lyft driver a few years ago, it was never mandatory to accept a person for a ride. We could decline. Therefore, if this still stands, that driver can't be charged for declining.
@Coromi1 was going to say the same thing. Like when an employer in an "at will" state lets you go for no reason. As long as they dont say "it's because you're too fat" they can technically fire you for being too fat, they just can't say that's the reason lol. His mistake, if he made one, was that he confirmed the reason verbally.
If you need a special accommodation you need to say so before you order the ride. It's no different then if a person was in a wheelchair but the driver had no way to transport the chair with said person.
Reminds me of this story from the woman who was tweeting about being squeezed between two obese people on a plain. She got a lot of backlash for complaining even from the airline!
People at that weight sadly sometimes get sent to large animal hospitals or zoos to get internal scans. You are correct. She would not fit in the standard imaging machines.
She has no case. If she wants to sue someone, it should be the car manufacturer. Nobody makes a car big enough for her unless it is intended for freight. She could not even fit in the back, so the driver was in his right to say no.
That was my first thought. The problem is the size of the car not the driver. Though I think cars have gotten fairly large in recent years and think even suing the manufacturer for this issue is also stupid it just makes more sense to go that route imo
I feel bad for the driver as he was allegedly fired over this… I had passengers myself that were close to her size and it almost destroyed my car and I have a stronger car than his… Lyft isn’t going to pay for any repairs I’m sure if his car is damaged, so naturally he was just protecting his own vehicle and did so quite politely actually suggesting an XL ride, which is more appropriate in her case… Thank you for taking a logical approach to this as there are a lot of people that will make it about race or whatever other thing than the reality at hand… Thanks again for your response
It is an insult to people of color and African Americans specifically to have the comparison made at all. This has gotten her and her music some attention while it has had an effect on the driver intended or not.
So… I used to be a head life guard at a kids summer camp. There was a very tall jump tower by a large lake. The camp provided life jackets for everyone, but there was a girl who was MUCH bigger than anyone else. She tried to put on a life jacket, but it wouldn’t close or buckle any past the top 2 buckles. I said politely said that she couldn’t go off the tower because the life vest didn’t fit properly; She screamed at me for being discriminating & fat shaming. I said it was a safety issue & it isn’t safe for the life jacket to be partially unbuckled. She cried and insulted me, then ran & jumped off the tower. Immediately upon hitting the water, she slipped out of her life vest & I had to jump in and save her. She hadn’t told anyone that she didn’t swim at all, by the way. Are we really going to risk or own lives & property (or others’) just so we don’t have to see ourselves clearly?
Why do you wear life jackets to jump from a tower into water? Isn't it safer to just jump and submerge yourself into the water and wouldn't a life jacket that is supposed to keep you on the surface increase the impact of hitting the water and make the jump more risky and injury-prone. I feel the solution is teaching children to swim, not making them wear life jackets.
Yes, I’ve heard from medical professionals I know that this is exactly what they have to do for people over a certain size. The reality is they simply don’t fit in the normal size machines so they do what they need to do in order to get them the medical scans they need. Just so happens the closest large scanners in our area are at the zoo.
Could she even fit through the door to get in? Damn... how does someone let themselves go like that? What an terrible way to go through life... and then blame others.
I know, I got to 320 lbs once....it was absolutely terrible not being able to sleep properly, sit comfortably, etc. I had enough of it, I still have plenty to lose, but already 30 lbs has made a huge difference.
Doubtful she could have gotten through the door, and she probably knew that, but what with the law suits fat women have been winning settlements over with airlines, this was bound to happen. This event was planned out; much like the cross dresser who goes to restaurants so he can video the staff calling him "Sir" because his voice is as deep as Clint Eastwood's.
@@Cookieboy70 Thankfully I've never stayed very big. I was about 240-250 once of mostly fat and that was pretty miserable. I can't imagine more than that. Let alone this lady's insane weight. Thankfully I had a purpose in wanting to join the Military so I worked my ass off to achieve that goal and lose the weight. Wanna say I'm currently like 180? With more weight from muscle.
The driver is going to get fired for the rapper's clicks. I hope someone hires that driver for a lot more money. He has to keep his vehicle to keep working and one ride is not worth the potential repair costs.
I had a friend who was a paramedic who had to take someone to the zoo for a CT scan because the scanner at the hospital could not accommodate a 650 lbs woman.
When did we start living in a world where we can sue people for hurting our feelings? Imagine if the same went for being able to use someone for breaking our hearts!!! This falls in line with taking away our freedoms!
So I was a Lyft driver in New Jersey I remember picking up this really big guy. He made the back of my seat smell. It lingered for hours and he had a hard time getting in the car. Can you put all his things in my back trunk. Which wasn't alot . He wouldn't let me help him put it in the trunk or help him take it to the door. He took so long taken everything out between walking to the door and walking back to my car I lost out on two rides. Now he must have made me his favorite driver or something because I got him again three more times on 3 separate occasions. When I saw him I immediately canceled it. I didn't care if he saw me. I don't understand how you can live and be that big
Laws against color, gender & whatever but what about the Laws of Physics. Big girl can't fit in small car. She should have requested a large car to pick her up. She did this to get famous or money
This nonsense started when we started shaming having shame, if we don't have any shame we get idiots like this. She'll be lucky to survive till the end of the case that's what she needs to worry about
If she can't wear a seat belt correctly that's a moving violation and a safety issue. The driver will get a ticket, not her.
Great point 👍

What's crazy is how they're comparing weight as a life style comparable to religion/ race.
I’m a former security officer that’s worked inside a Trauma l hospital. If a patient is too big to fit inside the CT scanner, they’re sent to get it done at the local zoo to get it done with their scanner. They reschedule the appointment and everything.

Are you serious? Wow..
@MyaHothyes, it’s not dehumanizing it’s for safety. Most of the time, depending on your location, a CT scanner at a zoo could be 20 minutes away while a bariatric machine could be over 2 hours away.

Or slimy lawyers trying to get away with something…

Cars have weight limits to function safely. Hitting that limit solo, is a personal problem.

"age, sex, height, weight" How the hell can this be constitutional? So kids of certain height can ride any park attraction? Kids can drink alcohol? Elevators can't have weight limits? That absolutely cannot be constitutional.
Omg you make a great point! We have height/weight limits for a reason. At the end of the day it’s about safety, not being offensive
I’m 5’3”, and trained extensively as a dancer (various disciplines) throughout my entire childhood & into my mid-20s. What happened to businesses having the right to refuse service?
In all seriousness, in an ER I worked in (major Midwest city), we had to send patients above a certain weight or body size to a local zoo for CT or MRI.
People would be offended, but we didn’t have equipment to handle them. It was sad and I’m sure very humiliating. But we did what we had to do.

It sounds to me that users should have to put their weight into their profile. And then only allow specific cars to pick them up.
Exactly ...I would have just canceled and drove off. No argument or explanation.
Once he noticed she was the passenger, he should not have even stopped if he was still moving. He could have pretended not to notice her, then cancel and drive off. Then he could go offline until he got out of that area so he wouldn't get her again.
I would have cancelled too!!!
Lawyers should be publicly shamed when pushing cases like this…especially this guy comparing it to racism!!
The driver should sue her for defamation and wasting his time.
If a regular seat-belt won't fit you, it's not safe for you to be in anyone's car. Order the XL car and carry a belt extender with you at all times...
Seat belt extenders violate the safety code as the fabric of the seatbelt and attachment points etc can't cope .
Remember, a crash means it has to hold against multiples of their weight.
Five point harness is recommended.

Yup 👍 Unfortunately it's the most economical way to go about it. I don't think most hospitals have the room or the budget.
Louis C. K. has a bit about that
gonna need to vacuum pack it first like a rolled pork belly with rosemary and garlic.
That’s exactly what happens. If there’s no bariatric equipment nearby, they’ll use a zoo because the machines can handle that much weight. I worked at a hospital that didn’t have bigger machines. The zoo is 20 minutes away but the nearest bariatric facility is over two hours away.
The bariatrics department of hospitals usually has the equipment to accommodate people of her size.
Too bad for her that these drivers are independent contractors . They don’t have to accept riders for no specific reason. They can just say no. And from now on this man has learned that don’t say why just go away. 😂

The rules may have changed, but when I was a Lyft driver a few years ago, it was never mandatory to accept a person for a ride. We could decline. Therefore, if this still stands, that driver can't be charged for declining.
Maybe he made a legal mistake when he told her that it was due to her weight instead of declining without any explanation.
@Coromi1 was going to say the same thing. Like when an employer in an "at will" state lets you go for no reason. As long as they dont say "it's because you're too fat" they can technically fire you for being too fat, they just can't say that's the reason lol.
Wowwwwww! That's wild.
