These are the reasons why this movie disrespects everything Black Panther stood for and why I didn't like the film as much as you did. If you don't know the character Black Panther and remember the 2018 film, you won't recognize any of these things! Some of yall just wanna love the movie because its BLACK!!! Black and Brown men don’t have positive role models in media. Black Panther was supposed to be a beacon for black and brown men to embrace their culture be proud and powerful. All that messaging was in the first movie but not in the second….If there is no King there is no Wakanda. There should be civil war going on with the tribes.

I've never agreed with Jody in these past few years as much as I do now with this movie review. I was starting to think I was the one tripping after coming out the theater with everyone praising the heck out of it. "Disappointed" doesn't begin to describe how I feel about Black Panther 2!

I ain't crying over nothing. I knew this would be trash when they act like they can't recast the FREAKING STAR OF THE MOVIE BLACK PANTHER. The Black Man vs Black Woman Propaganda was obvious from the poster. Now since when is a character killed off and they act like they can't recast? How many Batman? How many Jokers? How many Spiderman? How many Hulks? Disney is trash!!

One huge problem I had with the ending was this man T’Challa had a secret son who was raised in hati away from wakanda but was mad as fuck when his daddy killed his uncle and left N’jadaka fatherless in Oakland ain’t no way T’Challa would have done that this is an inconsistency that ruined the the heart of BP and makes the point of the 1st film pointless if he did the same shit his daddy did

If this was with his original love interest (Monica Lynne), I'd buy it but not this.

@@SuperWolsey man I feel so bad for them because the first game was a masterpiece from what I heard, and then years later with the 2nd game...Abby kills Joel, Abby gets fucked from behind but it looks like 2 dudes having gay sex because she has no boobs nor does she look like a woman, Ellie gets made out to be this assholes who kills dogs n shit while they're trying waaaay too hard to make the fans like Abby, Ellie goes on this warpath to avenge her father figure so it's a revenge story...until they make her bitch out at the last second after Abby bites her fingers off, we had pregnant women shooting guns n shit and falling from high places which puts their UNBORN CHILD AT RISK because they think pregnant women are capable of fighting while being limited on mobility, and the fake revenge story ends with Abby escaping with a child but Ellie gets abandoned before she even got home and her girlfriend leaves her and she can't play that guitar melody Joel basically taught her before he was killed without a care..and she's there crying her eyes out in an empty house. If Kratos did that bs with Zeus in the final battle everyone would be pissed because it's like "what made it so wrong all of a sudden, when you're so close to fulfilling you're revenge?"
The problem with this movie is that this is not the original screenplay and script that Ryan Coogler wrote. When Ryan finished the original script, he was so excited to give it to Chadwick to get his opinion on it. But Chadwick refused to read it because he knew that he wasn't going to be around long enough to play King T'Challa anymore. That was massive bomb drop on Ryan because he had no idea that Chadwick's health condition was that severe. Then Chadwick passed away several months later. Now Ryan has to rewrite the entire screenplay and script from the beginning to make a plot that makes sense given that Chadwick is no longer with us. So the whole thing was rushed.
You are correct Jody, this movie was not a good Black Panther movie and I bet you the original screenplay and script was 10x better with Chadwick in the movie as King T'Challa. But I still give Ryan props for being able to rewrite everything a complete this project despite his friend and leading actor passing.
Y’all missed the whole point shuri internal conflict about religion and denial of her own brothers’ eternal presence for dissonance and closure vs holding on to her science and her own ways becoming similar to killmonger and I expected him to be there but that dialogue was so powerful and once again centered around tchalla

Killing off Killmonger, Black Panther and now Ramonda were HUGE mistakes IMO. It just feels like a big waste of both Michael B Jordan and Angela Basset's talent, and I agree that they should have just recasted T'Challa. I know the sudden death of Boseman put them in a hard place, but anything would have been better than what we got. Also, Riri Williams, Everett Ross and Julia Louis-Dreyfus should have been completely cut out of this movie.

Namor compromising his city's security by showing it to a complete stranger who he's already on bad terms with;
Agent Ross sharing top-secret info on a clearly-monitored phone;
Okoye making the most stupid decision by going by herself into a clearly dangerous situation, knowing she'd be going against a larger enemy. There was seriously no way she could get ANY backup?
Shuri just not working as the Black Panther: the way Shuri put herself in that role just seemed so soulless & haphazard. It just didn't work for me. Hell, Okoye would've been a better BP than Shuri.
Also, the fact that the wakandans literally chose to go out in the middle of the sea to fight SEA-DWELLERS, with NO WAY of breathing in the sea was a terrible tactical decision. Sure, okoye had the water suit, but Okoye isn't the only fighter fighting. The Wakandans were getting their asses kicked until Namor **conveniently** just yielded at the very last second.
@@natesamadhi33 you missed the connection and his ability to relate to wakanda namors people were already being affected by wakandas decision and like you literally just stated the power gap of being in water if wakanda knows about a deep deep underwater city of superhumans what good would it do them, also the plan was strategic because in any other situation if they “lured” him to land he would bring his entire army the best thing to do would be fake another human exploration and deal with them in few number isolate namor and exploit the weakness perfect plan under the circumstance of being overpowered. Also your missing the part that shuri doesn’t want the mantle why are y’all forcing and questioning a narrative that isn’t even there. Hence why she sent mbaku to challenge it and she didn’t contest did y’all even watch the movie your not thinking as deep as you think you are
How about the fact that Namor ran a vibranium spear through her gut and she didn’t die but she couldn’t save her brother. Also T’challa did the same thing to Kilmonger but he died.

The complaint I have is riri Williams they don’t give any reason for her building the Ironman suit like at least say a one liner that people are trying to cancel her for recreating stark tech or that her idol was Tony stark instead she felt forced. And I still think killmonger should of made a pact with namor to take over wakanda but when tchalla dies they team up together to face a new threat in dr doom imo

@@SlyMagma tony stark had a whole reason why he made Mark1, and it evolved into something more. In the comics Riri Williams was influenced by Tony Stark and decided to follow similar footsteps. In this movie she just had a suit just to have a suit. No reasoning or influence. On top of that we were told she was a genius, yet she didn’t do anything smart or intelligent to help Wakanda. She had the suit at the end but with help with Wakanda Tech, she didn’t even build it 😭😭😴
@@ArsenalAdamAce Riri did not follow Starks footsteps in the comics when she made her first suit. She just wanted to make it because it was a challenge. And no, in this movie it was stated she was trying to build stark tech and she was working on her suit for years. So no, it wasn't "no reasoning or influence".
And she literally created the machine that kick-started the entire plot. And yes, she made a more advanced suit out of wakanda tech...so what? It's still her creation. Her genius was showcased pretty clearly, if you ask me.
The thing that pissed me off the most: THIS MOVIE PAINTED NAMOR AS THE VILLAIN.....Nah bruh..... Wakanda was the villain in all this.......Everything Namor did was justified
How? Namor threatens the queen and princess then tries to kill and then "kidnaps the princess". I dont see how Wakanda are the villains. If anything nobody is the villain.

@@doudymac But that's really the point behind Cryogenics. The people who have had it done in real life were rich people with a disease hoping that someday in the future the technology will be created to unfreeze them and also cure them of an incurable disease.
Cryogenics would halt all progression of a virus/disease.
And Marvel revealed that Wakanda can do it.
Wakanda should have very little disease-caused death. Maybe their cryogenic chambers are scarce and reserved only for rare occasions... but the king dying certainly would be a justifiably rare occasion.
@@doudymac I would even suggest that they retcon things. Say that Shuri secretly froze him, and they all pretended he was dead simply to help Wakanda move on because they didn't know that a cure would ever be found... maybe... it still undercuts this film and the grieving in it... but it's not a great movie anyway, so maybe undercutting it is worth it to bring T'Challa back in Black Panther 3.
That would have been better, it's amazing that people can think of better solutions and ideas than scriptwriters and filmmakers.
Shuri should also continue studying whatever that illness was so it wouldn't infect others, but no, I believe she just totally forgot about it? Sorry, haven't seen the movie.

Well considering he liked WW84...I doubt it. I know he brought up the weak points like the writing & Cheetah fight etc. But overall he likes WW84. So why would he trash Patty, if overall he is happy with the movie. You need to get over other people's opinions.

Na this review want it. The movie was good. What the hell do thes jack asses want, oh lets rewrite Black Panter 1, lets write Chadwick out of the history, and confuse people more. What do I mean, you know how people are. Re-casting Chadwick right away would have writen him out of many peoples contuousnes. Look what happend with spider man. This movie was supposed to be a filler. It wasnt called Black Panter 2, for a reason, it was called Wakanda Forever.
Literally Tchallas death and his actions while he was king caused the entire plot to happen as well as the internal lack of trust with okoye getting kicked out. It felt like every character was trying to just get their shit right because he was gone. Don’t understand the perspective

6/10. Couldn't buy Shuri as black Panther. Couldn't take her seriously, she intimidating at all. It was kinda jarring. Can't wait for them to grow up lil T'challa so he can take that. She still feels like the little sister. She can be a great side character, but she's not nearly good enough to carry a movie let alone the Black Panther mantle. Killmonger would have been amazing, if they went down that redemption route. It was setup perfectly from the bury me in the ocean from the last film. Shoutout Black Panther 1, definitely better for me.

I think they should've gone the direction of Shuri synthesizing the heart shaped herb from T'Challa and Killmongers DNA from the very beginning after the funeral and have Queen Romanda be the Black Panther for the first two acts then have Queen Romanda die in combat against Namor instead of drowning. Finally have Shuri request Okoye to train her for a year and then take the second heart shaped herb that was synthesized from Killmongers DNA which would explain a lot better why she saw him through the ancestral plan.
Namor was 🔥. MCU's first official Mutant .

Glad I’m not the only one. Killing off Angela Basset was a mistake smh. And Wakanda looked weak; which is one of the issues I got with IW. How is Namor and his people poppin up in wakanda just wrecking them? No explanation! Shuri doesn’t deserve the mantle. Mind you I don’t mind her becoming one, but her transition was done poorly. Traditions being ignored. I’m still sitting on my grade for this movie it’s between a B- and C+.
RIGHT !!! AMEN !!! I may be older but being born in 1969 wasn't a bad thing. I got to enjoy ALOT of fun , SAFE freedoms this generation sadly doesn't have , YET . Angela Bassett is not just GORGEOUS but she can make you feel like the character is REAL, I loved her in AHS The Coven . I hope she hears some of the viewers comments like yours. She IS THE QUEEN 👑 alongside some other beauties. Kinda like EARTHA KITT was my favorite Catwoman. Lol Gotta give credit to these women.

She's got that CLASSIC REGAL BEAUTY that this character REALLY EXPLODED with . Sad to see her go. Another movie that made crazy decisions that hurt that $$$$ they care so deeply about.
When adapting a comic book character and their storyline into live action film, I understand that you have to add in some creativity to make it interesting, think of it like signing your signature on a product you own but most producers just stray too far from what a character actually looks like to the point that it feels like it's somebody else rather than a person they are actually trying to depict.
This movie is a C- for me... I would put it at a D+ but the only reason why I wouldn't is because of some of the visuals.
32:16 Mayan warriors frequently fought as Namor did, also, he's as invulnerable as Luke Cage. Bullets and regular steel can't harm his flesh, it takes more exotic metals like Vibranium, Adamantium, the stuff Thor's Hammer is made out of, maybe. So Namor doesn't wear amour because, 1. Mayan's often didn't, and 2. he normally can't be injured!
Vibranium is cutting right through that boy. He ain't Hulk. Luke Cage is mid
@@JodysCorner Actually, Namor is just as tough as the Hulk. It's canon, he can beat the Hulk if he's in, or near water. It's why we non racist Namor fans are so excited. This is just the beginning, he's one of the BIG GUYS able to fight Hulk, Thor, Hercules. Hercules has just been introduced in the recent Thor movie. Thanos would have had greater difficulty having to fight, Hulk, Thor, Hercules, Namor. Namor can also regenerate and grow back parts, that ankle wing that was cut off, should grow back.
I reject T'Challa Jr. I don't know why people even entertain the thought of him taking up the mantle when that lil boy has never set foot in Wakanda in his life. I think one person in my theater behind me was clapping, but I was like why tf would I care about this shiet?? Why are you celebrating T'Challa being a deadbeat father?? Go ahead and bring in the T'Challa variant from Earth-XYZ or I'm done with this franchise. That recast is a MUST‼

Where I disagree is that with the people who say it doesn’t make sense. Just because he had super powers doesn’t mean he is immune from disease. They did it the way to set up Shuris “arc”. She tried to use tech to save her brother and when it failed, she double downed on tech and went further from the old ways. It was her mothers death that made he go back to trying to recreate tradition.

I know you said you liked Nakia having a son but wouldn’t that go against everything T’Challa set up in the first movie but being angry at his father for leaving Kilmonger in Oakland and not bringing him home after he killed his father.
This movie is a good example that people can find everything enjoyable even if it's crap, the movie is mediocre at best! As you guys have been saying and i don't get why people defend it.

Iwas really hoping that Killmonger reference of of being buried in the ocean, was a way to bring him back by Namors people and then double cross him to help Wakanda, the Namor background is genius if you ask me, the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs landed in the yucatec peninsula area which in theory was the same vibranium rock that Broke off that also landed in Wakanda, the feathered serpent god, was a great explanation for his wings on his feet because otherwise in comic book lore, there is literally no explanation for his wings other than “oh he’s a mutant” IAGREE THE QUEEN DYING AND RIRI BEING SAVED WAS A HEAD SCRATCHER, she saved Riri but drowned???
I liked the introduction of Riri as well as all the Namor/Talocan stuff. Everything else was so messy. The movie itself felt so disjointed with its editing and flow. I don't mind Shuri becoming the Black Panther. I just hated the way they did it. She ignores all tradition but suddenly decides to do it, beats namor and saves wakanda all in less than a day?
Shuri forgot that they have cryo machines and can freeze people while they find a cure.
Shuri apparently cares more about Bucky than her brother.
I thought the theme and the story was very clear, and choices made in this movie actually made sense unlike other movies, what i’m getting is that jody jus wanted to see this movie for the black panther fights and action instead of good storytelling and character development, this movie tackles on Grief and how we deal with that grief, and Ryan did a really good job on how most experience grief of losing someone very close too them.
My man in the red is wrong. The atlanteans were kicking the wakandans behind.
This is one of those it's open to interpretation situations and I'm gonna completely blackhole it and stay out it. Although I will observe from peripheral, it's like a car crash, you can't completely ignore it
I have mixed emotions on the movie. I agree with a lot of this review disagree with some too, but I just want to comment on Aneka and Ayo. Unfortunately that ball was dropped with these two characters because they are actually in a relationship in the comics and they actually are the midnight angel not Okoye. But Queen Ramonda had a part in their storyline but she’s gone so we won’t get to see it.

These are my thoughts about the movie. Please don’t be hateful or disrespectful if you decide to respond to my comment.
I chose not to read any comments or reviews prior to watching the movie, so that my movie watching experience isn't ruined by what I read on the internet. I really just want to go into the movie theater with a clean slate and enjoy the movie. Even if I don’t enjoy the movie, my opinion won’t be based on what movie critics or friends have said about the movie.
After watching the movie, I really enjoyed it with my husband! It's a perfect tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman. The first 10 minutes of the movie was when I almost burst out crying. I love how the movie explores grief and loss, since the actors were probably using their real-life emotions about the loss to play their characters. So the acting in this movie felt raw and authentic. Angela Basset was sooo good in this movie, she needs an award for her performance. Namor was a great casting choice, I was rooting for him even though he’s the antagonist in the movie.
Was it a perfect movie? No. Riri williams and Everett Ross weren't necessary in the movie, they killed off a main character which wasn't necessary to do that, and it's not very realistic to have a certain person take on the black panther suit without any formal training and she somehow knew how to fight instantly. And I'm not sure about the big reveal in the mid-credit scene, seems like they wrote that in after Chadwick's death. However, was it a good movie? Yes. I would definitely watch it again.
I also try to put myself in the shoes of people that actually know Chadwick Boseman. If I'm close to him and I worked with him in the first black panther movie, would I be ok with him being recasted so soon? Given how much losing a loved one can take awhile to heal, I wouldn't want to recast him so soon. I think Letitia Wright even said in an interview that making this movie was very therapeutic for her and it's like writing a love letter to Chadwick. Marvel probably asked Chadwick’s widow for her feedback about recasting him. She hasn’t publically disapprove the movie, so perhaps she was happy with how they honored her late husband in the movie. Just a guess.
Finally, I'm open to recasting black panther in the future. After watching this movie, I have let go of my grief for Chadwick and I’m ready to see more black panther in future films and see a new person in the role. The person that took the mantle in this film was only for temporary purposes. We need black panther back in the MCU!
They definitely should've recast T'Challa.
The only thing I can think of doing, is revealing that the panther God Bast preserved him, that he was in a comma that where he appeared to be dead, but was healing.

I agree 100% with you Jody this movie was trash to me as a Black Panther fan. It was basically bad fan fiction that disrespects the entirety of Black Panther as a character and Chadwick Boseman. They literally gave this (now dead character) a son he will NEVER FREAKING RAISE. So Ryan Coogler gave T’Challa the Black freaking Panther a FATHERLESS son. GTFOH!!! This movie is dogshit. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again they should have recast the character and continued on with his story. Cause now we will never get T’Challa meeting Storm, never gonna get him wielding the Infinity Gauntlet against God King Doom in Secret Wars, never gonna get T’Challa meeting the Fantastic Four, and the biggest one is T’Challa will NEVER be the leader of the Avengers like recently. Like I talked with Jody the other day, and I told him I hadn’t seen the film yet, due to a lot of personal and emotional losses this year.
However, listening to your spoiler talk (which I don’t mind) and the concept of the artificial heart-shaped herb got me thinking about the movie Superman III and the artificial kryptonite Richard Pryor's character created and how that had massive side effects on Clark / Superman. So one would think, being that the heart-shaped herb is now artificial, that it would have side effects similar to that of artificial Kryptonite. Where it would’ve been cool to see not necessarily a one for one to that of Superman III, but a side effect knowing that the “medication” she’s taking is generic and not “brand name,” if you know what I mean and hopefully, there could be some cool stories later on based off of that.
Although I don’t want to see Shuri fight herself in a junkyard ::wink::wink:: Although a quest to find the real mother nature version of the heart-shaped herb could also be a cool story, as another version of the heart-shaped herb has to exist, at least a variant version (right?)
Again I haven’t seen the movie yet, but what the fellas were talking about regarding the “artificial” heart-shaped herb got me thinking about Superman III, and my mind was like, “HEY! that sounds familiar….”

See if I was given the job to make that Film, First of All, I would have Re-casted Black panther, I would have Brough in Dr victor von Doom as the Main villain, At the beginning of the Film I would have King Challa Fight Dr.Doom, Challa Dies a hero death, which gives a Revenge Motive to the Film, have a Funeral, Have Dr doom troops going after the Vibrian in the Ocean, which will introduce Namor to the Film, have a Conflict with Wakanda and Namor, Then introduce the new Black panther that Unnights Wakanda and Namor Troops to take on Dr. Doom. That would have saved the Film. with Namor and black panther Fighting together against a powerful Dr doom. That would have been a Better sequel.
Honestly liked Namor. Best villain of Phase 4.

Black Panther has always been about king T’challa. We just just skipped over all the good stories. Now we are at the crappy Tokenized version of the character. Without the history of T’challa his sister being Black Panther means nothing. It’s like a long episode of Hawk Eye, but Hawk Eye is dead.

I think rant as you want to call it is out of line. No one knows what that first script was like one. Two imagine the pressure of creating a SECOND script and grieving at the same time. I thought they'd have T'Challa fighting (and getting wrecked by) Namor in cgi form as most of the fight sequences were cgi in the first film anyway.
I just watched the movie last night with my friends and I was not 100% satisfied. This movie had too much going on. It’s like they put two different movies in one movie. The only thing that was good about the movie was the visuals and the action scenes. This movie could have been done better with a better story.
Also why wasn’t Bucky at the funeral or the Avengers? Do you not think they should have been there to say goodbye?

Just saw it again. I liked it better than the first viewing. There's nothing wrong with this story. I do wish the advertising of it was more related to the story, but Coogler delivered. Especially doing it with everything they had to deal with

Even after Namor enters and threatens the queen and princess, and even after they know he's coming back they're just standing around? Wtf? How do whales, which live in salt water, survive in the fresh water Wakandan rivers? , Why's queen Ramonda just standing watching Wakanda under attack as opposed to you know, hiding?

Wakanda is supposed to be an elevated and advanced nation. Royal and ethereal. None of that was displayed.
They are struggling with this tribal-futurism stuff. Trying too hard to nod to tribal african culture, but not blending it well with an advanced society with super technology.
Giving them archaic and almost barbarian traditions like choosing leaders by ritual combat and preferring impractical weapons that look traditional.

I loved this movie and it made me emotional. I wanna say I cried 4 times. One thing I did not like was that Riri made a iron man suit but never mentioned Tony Stark name. Well atleast I don’t remember her saying his name.

I actually thought it would be okuelle that was gonna die in the namor attack and not the Angela basset. I thought it was gonna go down like this, during the attack she is like I have to make this right I have to protect the Queen I have to save her and the people of wakanda. Cause the dormulage is out fighting the non Atlanteans leaving their home base in protect she would get there in enough time running just to happen to push the Queen out of harms way and protect ree ree and gets killed by namor throwing his spear. With shuri seeing it all as well. As she dies holding the queens hand and her last few words the Queen and her forgive one another and reconcile their friendship before she passes. This would also forshadow her husband returning later on in another movie as a Villian stricken from grief of her lost.
I am not coming at this through the eyes on a comic book fan so my opinion might not matter too those who just want to see there favorite characters on the big screen

It's a GREAT film, but a TRASH Superman movie.
The movie was good
This movie was very good and deep on so many levels. Ryan Coogler is a genius and took huge artistic risk leaning into making the audience miss Chadwick throughout, an anti-war statement INSIDE OF the usual 3rd act battle, are a few examples. Not to mention taking the characters and audience through the various stages of grief in this movie. Coogler has some serious balls. 99% of directors wouldn't have the guts to go to those places. Angela Bassett and Letitia were off the chain and deserve nominations. Not better than BP 1 IMO 10/10, but still very good, 9/10.

Angela Bassett’s death was the worst thing they could’ve done. Absolute bullshit! And that RiRI girl was horrible useless was not needed! Movie started out with promise could’ve of been better ! Overall it was ok not great.

I was disappointed with this movie. The trailer had my expectations high. The story to me felt rushed and some of the costume design felt unimaginative. The things that should have been highlighted weren’t. And, I hate that Angela Basset’s character died like she did. You don’t kill off more characters when you are already struggling to produce a completely new film than what was originally planned. That’s my take.
Side note; I would love to see you review Amazon Prime’s The Peripheral.
Listen..Angela Bassett must be knackered- having to hold up this particular movie....it's amazing just how much better it can be when one actor brings the quality !
