Beautiful base. The factorio gods did not grant us splitters, undergrounds, and belts for organization or efficiency. They did it for the sake of art. For spaghetti I have a 1000 hours into this cursed wonderful game. I did not cease the spaghetti. It just got bigger. I tell myself I utilize a 'main bus with trains' so I can sleep at night
dont listen to the 100000h+ players saying this is hard to watch or frustrating. Making spaghetti is part of the learning experience, you gotta make something bad to know what good looks like. Great video!
even the 100000h+ players do the favorite italian pasta in the beginning! do your thing. learning by doing and have great fun to see your own progress. Nice greets from a 1000h+ player :)
Spaghetti is literally the point of the game. Optimizing at the lowest cost. Erasing full forests and filling out water to fit a blueprint of some perfectly ratio'd symmetrical megabase from a blueprint swiped off a forum somewhere is not how you play the game. Spaghetti is a lot more fun - much more problem solving.
* Turrets can shoot over walls. Surrounding them was fine to defend your turrets. Walls are cheaper :) * Trains can go forwards and backwards if you put a loco on the other side. The 5th tutorial map shows this. * Imagine the "mind blown" moment when they find out you can put 2 items on the 2 sides of a single belt. Cool first timer base! Keep it up!
bug will path around walls if there are holes though, so you can put walls in the way of the bugs if you dont want to make a full wall - it will give you time to shoot them going around, rather than if they had just attacked the wall
love seeing new players, here's a tip for steam power: it has a ratio of 1:20:40 which basically means: 1 pump can give water to 20 boilers and each boiler can give steam to 2 engines which in total is 40 engines. 1:20:40 and try to use underground pipes for long distance otherwise the pipes will lose pressure and decrease the flow rate
Ah, those Halcyon days of being a brand new player of this addicting, time consuming, yet wonderful game. Honestly, while tutorials and guides like Turpen are wonderful and all, with games like Factorio there's nothing quite like exploring and learning on your own terms. Oh to be an untainted player once more. A word of advice, dont be disheartened when you have to rip the factory apart and rebuild it several times over when you learn something new, or hell starting from scratch in a new world altogether. Keep it up, you'll get the hang of it! And remember, the factory. MUST. GROW. Edit: the lab inserter loop is something I've never seen before, however. That's a new one on me. I feel cruel laughing because as funny as it is, it's a perfectly reasonable if novel attempt at a solution. Kudos for the inventive approach.
Best tip I can give is, read the different buildings, what they do and how much or how fast they consume things. For example, 1 boiler can support 2 engines :) Otherwise great video!
Factorio is one of those games I wish I could delete all my memory and start again for the first time. Hope I get a bit of that again in the expansion. It's always nice to see how a new player finds his own way in Factorio. Very nice, bro, and remember... The factory must grow!!
If the factory needs alot of work, you just call it your starter base before building a new one :p (and then that starter base is just the starter-larger base, its totally another starter base so it dosent need to be good :p)
About the train you can reverse it by placing a locomotive on both side facing opposit direction. And later when you will figure out signals for thoses you need to place signal on both sides aligned to allow trains in both direction. But if you have only one train you don't need signals
As people in the Factorio Reddit love to say: Learning Factorio through trial&error is a very unique experience you can only do once. Try not to look up solutions of expert players, only look for specific answers to things you don't understand. Embrace the spaghetti and the non-optimized factory. In a few hundred hours you'll end up building the same base as everyone else anyway, enjoy the newness while it lasts! :)
I have ~150 hours in this game and by 4th minute of the video I can't really describe what I'm feeling seeing what you have come up with, and you have stated that you have played through tutorial XD But hey, it's a nice change from watching all those youtubers showing off their ultraoptimised builds that I have no idea how they are supposed to work
Island is fun and very easy and new player friendly it is just very difficult early on, also for the love of god use "alt" mode (you press alt and is super helpful)
By the way all the spaghetti that you make on this video we name it starter base BC it products materials for building a real base with real infrastructure BC with base like that making one rocket will take ages (never)so probably you will need to take your stuff into a very very long distance from the start base because it needs A LOT of space and probably building material more than what you can store
Appreciate your feedback! I thought that too after I finished the video. I'll change it up a bit for the next game! I'm still figuring out how to best capture the experience.
lol. 17 hours.... come back and show when youve hit over 3500 hours and completed most of the mod sets. then rewatch this video and make a commentary, haha
I mean dude got to blue science, so he will get bots like in the next episode Dude does oil refining right where he extracts it AND TRAINS PETROLEUM, has no smeltery stacks, puts turrets IN THE WALLS, I will be surprised if he will come up with something resembling a bus I mean I have started a new save a while ago and honestly I am plain overwhelmed by thinking if I am doing everything correctly and if it's optimised, I have calm myself down saying 'it's just a starter base, I'll tear it down anyway' and here's a dude just trying to beat the game. It's just awesome.

im only at about 4k hours, and even still i keep extra spaces everywhere to run spagetti in the late game to save from getting hit by the train

Thanks, I really needed those tips in the beginning haha I was super clueless

Thanks mate! I figured that out way too late - but I'll continue and try to finish the run :)
@@Pixelmoh Don't worry about rebulding your base many times... Plaing the game with the final design in mind is boring :D
It's always fun seeing new player spaghetti lol
It's always cool to see the development of new players bases through various stages of the game. Gives me major nostalgia vibes.

This makes me feel so much better about my factory ( especially after seeing a lot of really good ones by ppl with hundreds of hours )
That was the point of the vid. To make ppl feel better. Its not a shame to be a beginner : D

Ok I have watched the whole thing and now I am sooooo fucking curious how are you going to get to launch a rocket so now you have to do it
Me too, I can't wait to see, if I'm gonna make it with that base :D but loving the game its really addictive
him getting to Automation 2 by hand, you have to be insane
It’s always fascinating watching the builds player make their first time I still have my first world I sometimes go back to just for a laugh.
You know, watching you learn was hard to watch but I do wish I can play factorio like it was my first time, thanks for the video

Would've been better to have your commentary live while you play your first game to see your thought process instead of narrating afterwards.
