I love the music, seems to enhance the quietness of steam engines versus diesel ones. Are they coal or wood fueled ? and some of the engines appear to take a large volume of the boats, little room is left for cargo…
There is a fellow who restored an old steel hull steam tugboat 30 footer built in 1906 he and his wife live aboard but couldn't afford fuel ( wood ) I met them 25 years ago both retired he a machinist and she a very good chef. I suggested a fix for their problem of being unable to afford fuel. They invite a couple on board for dinner ( and is great food ) the price? 1 1/2 cord of firewood! They have been all over the US doing this and love it. They travel around 10 to 20 miles a day or until the wood supply runs low pull into the next marina. To meet the next couple for dinner. Her stove is steam heated. They love it. One couple showed up with a 1944 Mack six wheel truck with a residential coal body on it and told them sorry no wood 10 tons of hard coal ok? They had to place 1 ton on the deck as the bunker was filled at 9 tons. He found her at a breakers yard untouched and bought her took 17 years to finish rebuilding her, single cylinder 175 hp at 125 rpm turning a 4 bladed prop near 48 inch diameter. Not fast but still does the job. Nice way to spend your retirement.
Thought I'd better ask. How long does it take to get a steam canal barge up to working temperature and pressure from cold? Any chance also of a video from the engine room perspective? Lovely video though. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for your comments. I don't know the answer to the first question as for the 2nd, I've found a video of the engine room on the following link Steam Narrow Boat President - Engine room tour
tracklamp thanks. I've just seen the series about the Canadian feller on here who runs a steam boat on any old wood he can find. Indeed it's not for in a hurry, but an hour's work and you're ready to rumble.

The annoying music in your music video drowned out the sounds of the steamboats. It would be better if you had made a video about the boats with their sounds.
Beautiful boats. Were they often given names?
Good video. The music is nice & dreamy to suit the pace... but I did prefer the sections where I could just hear the engines. And the birds.
The Laplander looks like one of the first iron clads

nanba25 n
nanba25 coal fired. Many steam boats would have pulled a similarly sized butty behind, enabling significantly more cargo to be carried.

What on earth do you mean by steam heated stove? I presume you are aware that there is no such thing.
@@EngineEngineer it would work, I've baked meals straight on an engine before, heat is heat to a pan.
Great video, thanks for posting it, and the music is fine.
How would it be going through a long tunnel?
love the music
name of the music?

Over-fire!! Music is a bit naff, but otherwise not a bad collection of footage. Daniel (owner EmilyAnne)
720p you get low marks for that !!!!!!!

Nicely shot. Looks like a great day, despite the weather. Shame about the naff music which spoils an otherwise very good film.
Very nice to watch.
