    The cheap trick to get a stuck oil filter off is pinch a screwdriver through it and crack the tightness. Best way to avoide it happening again is don't over tighten the oil filter.

    • @HomeOwnerRepair

      I have done this in the past on very stuck oil filters. Not from what I have done but from previous owners.

  • @mtbrdude

    Better tip for installing a new oil filter: Turn it until the seal makes contact with the engine, then tighten it ONLY 1/2 a turn more. It will still seal up, but you won't have to fight with it next time.

    I purchased a 2017 Sportage with the 2.4 engine a couple of months ago I recently noticed the oil light blink a couple of times when I turned a corner. I checked the oil level and it was 2 1/2 quarts low. I was wondering if you’ve noticed high oil consumption since you made this video? I noted several folks complaining about this on various forums. Thanks!

    • @DAS-Videos

      It is best to pour some new oil into the filter, and then lube the o-ring from the new oil that's left on the face of the filter. The filter absorbs a lot of oil and it won't spill. You can see that he introduced a bug or grass in his filter at 6:06. It ended up on the outside of the o-ring so it was fine. And put cardboard down. There was oil all over the place. I liked this video.

    Is the oil drain plug right or left hand thread? I watched 3 times, and it looks like you turned it clockwise to loosen it (and counter-clockwise to tighten it.)

  • @thisguyrighthere8557

    is there a washer on the drain plug? Changed my oil a few times and noticed that I didn't have a washer or gasket between drain plug and the pan.. maybe why there's a slow leak 😅 Is there supposed to be anything there or can you just snug it and no leak?

    • @HomeOwnerRepair

    I know this is an old video, but I have a 2021 with the same 2.4l engine, and up until the last couple of oil changes we were letting the dealer change it. Since I''ve been changing the oil and the filter I have noticed that the 5.1 quarts the owner's manual recommends leaves the engine a little more than half a quart low on the dipstick. Rockauto states 6.13 quarts for the "initial fill" and 5.07 quarts for "refill". I've been topping it off until it is right at the full mark. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Are you using the ramps on an inclined driveway? If so, do you know the approximate angle of the driveway? And if you use ramps on inclined driveways regularly, do you have any issues? Is there anything to lookout for? Thanks man!

    • @HomeOwnerRepair

    What is the oil service interval for a 2018 sportage LX. And is there a difference if I use a blend or conventional oil

    • @HomeOwnerRepair
      @HomeOwnerRepair  4 года назад +2

      The service interval depends on the oil used. Most full synthetics are good for 7,500 miles between oil changes and most of the cheaper oil is good for 3,000 miles. Which ever one you choose make sure the oil filter is rated for the same amount of miles. Hope this helps you out.
