Late comment as I just have seen the video. A couple of eloquent sentences about breaking the scene apart in this video have succinctly clarified something that I have vaguely felt but has been nebulous to me for years. It was like a light coming on! Brilliant, thanks very much!
Hi Henry with the vista, take the right half of it, that's a nice shot, including the pointed hill, the trees in the foreground and not forgetting the groups of trees stretching into the field. The left half didn't do much for me I'm afraid. Somewhere in that area are ospreys. Hope you are well and stay safe.
Hi Henry another great video and very informative. Like your snap-shot + first telephoto picture. Totally agree with you, you can tell a better story using a telephoto len than a wide angle len. I have nikon d750 +nikon 24-120 f4 telephoto len which is on my camera 90%of time for landscape photography.
nice Vlog again I did spot that little lighted area as you got over the top. I agree with you if it does not feel right with the wide-angle then a telephotopoint of land sometimes work and saves going home empty handed. Keep safe stay well.
Oddly I'm happy the second shot wasn't as great as you were hoping for. For some reason I was able to understand your point better. Maybe if it would have been a perfect shot, I would have been distracted by its beauty. By being so so, I better understood the points and elements you were describing leading up to the shot. You are an excellent teacher.
Strangely I was out today trying to replicate exactly what you were trying to put across in this video & maybe it was me or my not very good cheap long lens but most of my images were VERY flat and VERY uninspiring even though the 360 degree view was stunning. practice practice practice (if only I had more time to practice and less time working!) thanks for a great video Henry
Loved the vlog, your enthusiasm always shines through! The images were great, loved the mood with the dark clouds and the golden light. You should post an image of the aftermath from the lightening strike on the tree!
enjoyed this Henry. I need to push myself more with my 70-200mm lens more as I too easily get distracted with the bigger scene and spend more time with the wide angle on the camera than I do with the long lens
Envy your having access to such grand spaces. Lake district, really pretty. I have to drive 5 hours plus for good landscapes. Local, is crops. Peanut, cotton, some corn.
You need to come to Dumfries and Galloway it's beautiful especially New Galloway Forest.. Love going up there hoping to do some astrophotography there 👍
Good luck with the book. Just ordered myself a copy. Still wish I'd have known about you while you were in Munich, it would have been great to have had a 1-2-1 with you here.
This is one of your best videos Henry. Although the second shot wasn’t your best, the explanation really hit home. I’ve been struggling for ages with my big vista shots hoping to capture the view with little reward. You probably won’t remember but in our 1:1 workshop that’s what I was trying to get across. This video has opened my eyes. Ps. You are staring to look like Forrest Gump in his running days 🤣 keep up the great work.
Henry, I hope you don't mind me saying this, (it's meant as a compliment,) but you don't half remind me of the "BRILLIANT!" character off the Fast Show.
Henry, good to see you out and abouy brotha! Always, always enjoy your vlogs. Just returned fro. Tre Cime di Lavarado in the Dolomites. Highly recommend buddy. Keep up the good work
These videos r super helpful man, and I definitely need to work on seeing good photos. I find myself going out, snapping loads of shots without really thinking about it. Then I end up like 100 crappy photos and maybe 1 half decent one 😂
Another good vlog my friend. I also think people look too hard and, excuse the pun, can't see the wood for the trees, I know I did when I first started many, many years ago but, as practice and experience took over it all seemed to fall into place.
Oh i forgot to say, I have never been a great fan of vistas i have never used a wide-angle lens, I like zooming into a spectacular part of a vista and working on that.
But isn't that wide vista the type of picture that sells? For us it's a snap shot but to the buying public it what the area looks like! Only matter if you sell prints.
First class lesson. It has really made me think. Many thanks. Cheers. Ken

Awesome Henry
Great advice Henry as someone who mainly uses wide angle lens for landscapes I'll certainly be taking more now with the telephoto.
Thanks Steve

Thank you Henry, another good video with a nice explanation about light and "seeing" light.
You are very welcome and thanks for the comment

Excellent work as always Henry. What body are you using these days. 7200 ????
Cheers Darren, yes my trusty D7200!
Which are the lenses you use for landscape I'm just loving it. Love from Kalimpong, west Bengal, India
Thanks for the comment Daniel. All lenses I use can be found here: www.henryturnerphotography.co.uk/my-gear

Very beautiful second picture
Thank you Jef

Happy to help!
Your first telephoto at 7.20 reminded me of some of the landscape works of the great British artist JMW Turner. Any relation?
Cheers Michael, no relation!
Another good vlog my friend. I also think people look too hard and, excuse the pun, can't see the wood for the trees, I know I did when I first started many, many years ago but, as practice and experience took over it all seemed to fall into place.
Very true!
love your videos man..
Glad you like them, thanks so much!
Thought it was gonna be a teach you how to suck eggs but fair play Henry loved it 💪
Thanks a lot mate!
Oh i forgot to say, I have never been a great fan of vistas i have never used a wide-angle lens, I like zooming into a spectacular part of a vista and working on that.
Fair enough! I can definitely understand why 😊
But isn't that wide vista the type of picture that sells?

Only matter if you sell prints.
I agree Mark. I've actually sold a few shots similar to that this month.
Yep, agreed. But if course it's not necessarily about always trying to take shots that sell
@@HenryTurnerphoto Yes totally, think most of us do it for the love.
@@monkeysausage2404 I Agree, and to get out of cooking on a Sunday.
