Nicely explained. I'm starting to consider taking self-portrait and the measuring tape idea is great. It's going to save me a lot of hassle with focusing.
Yea its a great tool to focus on yourself if there isn't anyone to help, or you don't have anything the same height as you to focus on. Makes the process a lot smoother.
Thank you for your great video. I have just learned why my photos were coming out blurry. I was basing my focus on the front of the lens, not the film plane like you very helpfully describe. Cheers from Canada.
Nice work! I see you‘ve got our boy Goku Black in the corner 👀. At 3:15 ish when you mention measuring to your eye, I’d like to note that you don’t have to be quite so precise unless you are shooting a low aperture close up. In that case, you may naturally shift position as you move back and forth adjusting things. Check out one of the widely available free DOF charts online to see the approximate “in focus” range for your film format at a given aperture, lens focal, and subject distance. If you select a setting with enough margin for error you can get a sharp result just measuring from your seated position to the camera or you can better account for how much movement will cause you to miss focus. That should be a helpful tip when you forget tape, forget a tape measure, or just don’t have something long enough. When in doubt, stop down.
Yep, that's true. It was my first time, so I tried to be as accurate as I could with the measurements. I used the distance scale on the lens also, but even at f8 or f16 the DoF is still only about .5ft or .2m. Working with window light in the afternoon didn't help either, the light was changing quick. But, I totally understand what you mean, and I appreciate the solid tips!
Zone Focused do you develop yourself? I’m keen on trying self developing, especially because my local lab doesn’t do pushing/pulling. Would love a video on that topic!
Hey man! I'm curious how you achieved the difference in the clear, low grain photos and the 2 photos at the end that have a lot of grain. If anyone could help, that'd be great!
@@ZoneFocused Thank you so much! One follow-up question: Did you develop them the same or did you compensate for underexposure in the development process?
This one is branded "Cherry" but I think any timed release that is threaded will work. If you can find an electric one with customizable time I think that would be best.
Brian McCutcheon hi, look up “kopil” self timer on eBay. That’s the type he displayed here. I use a Polaroid Avigo self timer which operates similarly but is nowhere near as beautiful as his.
What's some problems you faced while making self portraits?
Hey! What is the make of your self-timer! I need one of those!!
photos came out nice. Thanks for the in depth directions

This is a great step-by-step guide! Good content, my dude.
Man, thought I replied to this days ago, but Thank you! Hope it helped!
One word: Fantastic! Really enjoyed watching this. something I never thought about doing
Glad you could get something from it!
Dope and informative video!
Glad you got something from it. Need to make another one using a different camera.
Very nice! The second shot is awesome!
Thank you! 🙏🏽

Dope! Glad that helped. You should be tack sharp now!
That's actually a good tip using the measurements on the side of the Mamiya. Great video!
Glad I could help!
really awesome stuff
Thank you!

Oftentimes lenses will display DoF along with the distance markings too :^)
Soluble Faces yep that’s right. I wish marking every increment was standard practice on all lenses
Certain Exposures Ahaha I know right? It’s invaluable

Soluble Faces Yea the focus scale on lenses is always clutch.
Yoooo i love these photos! Just bought a medium format for fun now i want to impulse buy a tripod and self timer to do this
It’s fun, it’s worth it!
whoa that self timer thing is super cool. Definitely need one now.
It’s awesome man
i really like the motion blur ones, and the one at 5:06 looks like some impressionist painting lol 🔥
Appreciate it man!
The second shot is dope
Appreciate it!
Damn, now I feel like I have to fill my roll with some self portraits.
Don't have such a dope self timer but a cable release will do.
Yep, a cable release will work. The length of the cable is the only thing that will limit how far from the camera you can get. Have fun with it!
@@ZoneFocused I have a 65mm lens for my Mamiya and the cable release is roughly 30cm. I'll try my best.
These are amazing!
Thank you!
Dope work 🙌
Much love, thank you!
So you measured first with tape measure than you looked the camera and matched depending what lens you used?
so cool and informative, thank you for this!
Glad you could get something from it!
These are so good 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thank you!
Which self timer is that I need that too !
It’s called a Cherry Self-Timer
Loved this vid
Thank you!
Awesome Content.
Love cuz!
Photos turned out dope 🔥🔥🔥
Got to take some more. Appreciate the tips!
Zone Focused No problem!
Great video, I forgot how good hp5 looks 👀 immediately ordered a couple of rolls lol
Solid performing film every time. 👍🏽

What was your shutter speed for those blurry motion shots?
Not a fancy channel, but still a great one.
You deserve more views.
Keep it up man!
I tried to set it up for at least 1 second for the blur shots then watched my timer, and didn’t move too fast. Just a steady movement
Yo what model was the self timer? I bought 2 from ebay and they both were trash
I honestly don’t know much about it. It’s branded, “Cherry” but that’s all I know. Sorry I don’t got anymore info on it for you
Hey man! I'm curious how you achieved the difference in the clear, low grain photos and the 2 photos at the end that have a lot of grain. If anyone could help, that'd be great!
Totally exposure. The last 2 were at least 2-2.5 stops under exposed. That is what gave the extra grain. The sharper ones are exposed correctly
@@ZoneFocused Thank you so much! One follow-up question: Did you develop them the same or did you compensate for underexposure in the development process?
@@itsbenmichael Nope nothing special with developing just box speed!
did you use a flash?
super dope video by the way!
Nope, no flash, just window light. Thanks!
What is the self timer you’re using I def need one of those

Your welcome!
What shutter speed to do recommend to shoot with the RZ67 with ISO 400?
If its on a tripod any is ok. Handheld I've shot at as slow as 1/15 of a second if i brace myself against something.
Zone Focused Also do you know where I can get a self timer like yours?
@@rogeliorodriguez2584 There should be some floating around on eBay. If your have any local camera stores that sell film cameras try there too!
Zone Focused what kind do you have? Or what brand?
@@rogeliorodriguez2584 The one I have is "Cherry" brand, model "Self Timer - L"
Very good: Apart from self timer has that gadget got any other name?
Brian McCutcheon hi, look up “kopil” self timer on eBay. That’s the type he displayed here. I use a Polaroid Avigo self timer which operates similarly but is nowhere near as beautiful as his.
The best bet would be to go off of Certain Exposures' advice. I've only know it as a self timer, so he has a more detailed name for it.
Thanks for helping out!
Zone Focused No thank you, was able to track one down:
