Wow! Watching this with the original commercials really is like watching a time capsule. I would have been five years old when this aired, and there is a very good chance I might have been watching. The fact that it's in black and white? Well, I'm sure it was broadcast in color, but pretty much everyone was watching on black and white TVs in those days, so that's pretty real, too. I do hope this kinescope gets transferred properly -- it really is a treat to watch.
Erik Smith, I'm very glad you enjoyed it and yes I do plan on transferring it properly, intact as you see it here. Most kinescopes were filmed in black and white for 2 reasons: color was more expensive to film and at this time in history, color TV sets were more expensive than their black & white counterparts, so those who owned color TV sets were the envy of family and friends.
Yes,i do remember,it came on in the afternoon as well as night time versions,we loved to watch this & hear those questions awaiting the answers, was funny & exciting back then, because we didn`t have much to do except school or work,no internet,we either went out to a movie ect.,or watched these shows for entertainment, yet this was all we wanted & we enjoyed every relaxing moment given through ALL of these old tv shows & i`m very grateful to have seen them in the exact years they were filmed because that was a "new time coming" & this was a big hit show as were so many others were,it was so cool seeing this show again, much Gratitude for sharing!
This is what I miss from the network version of the Newlywed Game. Johnny Jacob's zany comments on the couples before introducing their names and how long they've been married and the short blocks displaying portraits of participating couples kissing, mingling, and having a good time while instrumental background music is playing (i.e. "Pretty Ballerina" by the Left Banke for example). The well known syndicated version that GSN has aired numerous times doesn't feature those segments.
I remember watching an episode of this with my grandma during the early 1970's. In that episode, the wives were asked what was the length of their husband's inseam . Three of the wives said numbers like 32",28" or 36". The fourth wife said 6 inches...it took a few moments to get the audience to settle down when she finally realized what she had done. She was mortified, but that was nothing compared to her husband's realization that the world now knows what he has to work with...it was so funny that it made an indelible impression on me. Miss the good times with my grandmother.
This aired the year before I was born, but I really enjoyed this. It really is like looking in a time capsule and I love the fact the original commercials are included. Also, I'm guessing Sugar Frosted Corn Bursts didn't last long or was discontinued by the time I was eating cereal in the early 70's.
WOW!!! I can't believe you have an episode from 1968! My parents were on this show around that time... might have been 1969 though. I have a picture of them they took at the studio when they played. Do you have any more episode from then? Gee, I would love to see that. Wow... Thank you for this sweet memory.
That mouse commercial was very uncomfortable! haha. And I never would have guessed where the Mr. Magoo commercial was heading...kind of strange. Thanks for uploading!
On “The Newlywed Game”, in the ABC daytime / primetime, if some or most of the episodes were destroyed from ABC, they could restore all the episodes of this program by the television time machine.
Chuck Barris has been notorious for hoarding the master copies in his possession once he found out what happened to the Family Game. Although the Dating Game was carefully preserved with at least 100 aired on GSN, the Newlywed Game was stored in a closet which made it difficult to preserve in any case which explains the subpar condition, discoloration, and breaking at times.
From their body language (mostly his), I will bet the farm the couple Mike & Debbie, didn't stay together. He acts like he's already lost that lovin feeling. I'm shocked, they won!
She was in a pinch today. 3 of her answers were hair-related. Love is blue. Was Ellen Burstyn in the Palmolive ad? Mike had the personality of a grasshopper.
"Love Is Blue" took me right back there... One of my favorites. Grade 1 1967-1968 The composer's name... Paul Murriat? Very bad time in someways. I remember the assassinations and the rioting in Los Angeles, and the draft, and those horrific images from the correspondents in Saigon on television every night. And Greenpan's spooky slow motion film clips of the gender bending Soviet track athlete at the Mexico City Games. We also lived only two miles or so from the Ambassador Hotel...
There was a nighttime version of the Newlywed Game. it aired on Saturday nights before Lawrence Welk. Also, the Dating Game started a year before the Newlywed Game, so it would not have been a new show. The Newlywed game started in 1966, so this was not the first season. The set and format were also a little bit different in the first season. Here is a link to a first season episode: ruclips.net/video/JHpozJTlDPA/видео.html
Jim, how did you find this episode? My mother was in an episode in 1966-1967. She died in 1969 shortly after I was born. I would love to find that episode. Any ideas?
Yes- an evening edition of "THE NEWLYWED GAME" was seen on ABC's Saturday night schedule at 8pm(et), right after "THE DATING GAME" (then "LET'S MAKE A DEAL", as of January 1970), from January 1967 through January 1971.
The shakiness without a tripod or just sitting it on a table made me nauseous in the first few moments. At what point does it stop moving so I can jump ahead?
A bunch of 1960s era music during breaks . They must have adjusted the type qustions later in the seris' run , because these question appear thought provoking but mundane , in other works did not produce many laughs .
The audio is really horrible on that film!...A total disaster!...The outer noise was a complete distraction, with all that clang and clatter!...But, that's okay!...Because I couldn't hear flim's audio anyway!...I mean, WHAT'S THE POINT??!!
This is what you get when you take an original reel to reel roll of film as is that has never been remastered or updated in any form, similar to watching it on a console television set with a so-so antenna.
Love this era!
Thanks 😊 🇨🇦🤗
My pleasure.
Love the girls haircuts. Still have that haircut since 1967.
Do you still have it in 2024? When I was a kid I loved the ladies' fashions of that era, chicks were so groovy and sexy back in the day!
This is a gem! I even remember the commercials. 😎
The film is in amazing shape for 50+ years! Thanks for sharing this TV classic!
Thanks for posting. Always great to see historical shows like this one. The couples' behaviors are quite different than those in later years.
I miss these days !!!
Yes. So do I.

Debbie is absolutely adorable. Well, actually, they're all adorable. What a fun show!!!
Love the ones from the 60s

Thanx, but the film came with original commercials included.
I remember watching this as a little kid. It's great that you found this.
My parents were on the show in 1969. I would be incredibly grateful if I could find any footage of them on there.
Thanks for the upload. I've been looking for that Ajax commercial with Julie Parrish. Awesome

That's what they SHOULD invent

@shutupshelley1793 No, Shelley. I'm not married. Thanx for your kind words. It's most appreciated 😊😊👍
@@jimliftin1552Not married, eh? Hmmm... 🤔 I'm in north/central Michigan...it's beautiful here...just sayin'.
ABC Daytime Air Date: Tuesday March 12, 1968
Jim Lange hosted Dating Game, something ABC once aired right after Bob Eubanks & those unpredictable newlyweds back in the day.
This is so awesome! Thanks for sharing this!!!

I get a bad vibe from Husband #1!!!!!
Right, he gots irrated/mad real quick. But he control himself. Look at his body language.
That's Julie Parrish in the Ajax commercial.
From their body language (mostly his), I will bet the farm the couple Mike & Debbie, didn't stay together. He acts like he's already lost that lovin feeling.

The ones who win are the ones who didn't stay together!
Nice gift for 1968, hope they enjoyed it.
ILL NEVER FALL IN LOVE AGAIN
Who cares
So cool! Do you have any more episodes? My grandparents were on this show in December 1968

Everyone was slim in those days. Now you see tub of lard brides
GMO's, aspartame, hormones, antibiotics, the toxins they put in the food. 😢
Thank you :)

Link has expired for now, there is nothing to watch, they must have removed it yet there is hope, there are episodes right here!
Thank you for that information.
I think Eubanks was mentioning "The Baby Game" although it debuted on ABC earlier that year.
I just saw an episode where the bonus question was worth 35 points, so this is an older one.
Jim, how did you find this episode? My mother was in an episode in 1966-1967. She died in 1969 shortly after I was born. I would love to find that episode. Any ideas?
woman in dove commercial is gorgeous
I am desperately trying to find my parents episode. It aired on 11/8/1967 any idea or lead as to where I can get it?
He is talking about The Baby Game.

Barry I. Grauman
Like the Newlywed Game, that, too, is in black and white.
WOW THIS IS 50 YRS AGO , SAD THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT WITH US,
How do u know that? Bob Eubanks is still alive
The runner up gifts were decent- I don't think they usually showed those
Short haircuts for most young men in 1968, still.
Up until 1970 approximately if I remember correctly.
Actress Ellen Burstyn is in the Palmolive ad.
I knew I recognized her, but couldn't put my finger on it.
The shakiness without a tripod or just sitting it on a table made me nauseous in the first few moments. At what point does it stop moving so I can jump ahead?
I apologize for the shakiness. I have stabilized the video. Please watch it again.
