I play both Sax and Clarinet (all of the clarinets, actually), and while saxophone is easier (no denying that simple fact), I think clarinet is better suited to most traditional forms of music. But saxophone is quite simply better suited for a modern musical environment if you want to play jazz. That being said, and despite being the less popular instrument, I say clarinet is better for me.

Honestly, if the Saxophone had been an earlier invention, I think composers like Mozart might have welcomed it. There's always going to be some traditionalists who will reject certain instruments but I think there's definitely a few who would have been open-minded
