    As someone who is only 3yrs in my networking career, I feel privileged to watch you guys. It's hard to find network professionals with your experience that are willing to share such valuable information. Thank you Hank and Jason for your insight. And thank you David for your channel.

    I don't know man. I've been in conversations with Cisco where they are indeed saying this is their vision for the future. The problem is that I'm in a small to medium school district and I don't see how we can justify this "technology" especially at its price. This is most certainly geared toward large corp environments where I can see, with a shit ton of back end configuration the product making "life easier." This does not really speak to me being that I have maybe 18 stacks, 8 "core" switches, 180 AP's, 2 WLC's, 240 IP phones, PUB/SUB boxes, and 3 voice gateways. Seems like I am going to be forced to this direction once Prime is EoL, and I can see this getting intertwined into ISE to the point that THAT already expensive piece of software will loose functionality unless I have DNA Center. I'm not sold on this. I already have to pay for assurance with my 9300's that I can't/don't even use. This seems about as useful as my CCNP. Wish Cisco could see the big picture and respect clients of all sizes.

    Great demo and discussion. Our team will get DNA soon. This helps answer a lot of questions. Excited for the future beyond Prime.

    This is interesting. I have heard about it but I think someone in our organization said we did not need it. We bought some new 9500 core switches. I wish we could. We have Solarwinds now. I work in a large refinery atmosphere with lots of switches so when I have to install or troubleshoot something its quite a task. We have another company that works a lot with the fiber and sometimes assists us with switch installs for certain projects. My dream is to just grab a switch from inventory and take out to install and have a lot of the tasks automated. Or if im not there we can give to one of the cable techs, let them mount it and maybe one of my co workers do the rest from DNA or I do from home or something.
    Also I heard its really good for troubleshooting issues to determine if its the network device and maybe speeds up that tasks as well.

      Then again I think our switches may be to old. Some are ok but we have a lot of 3560 switches with Version 12. I have some with 15 too but this may not work

    Solarwinds already does most of this and plenty of people have it already, I don't see the need to spend more money on extra Cisco stuff.
    Plus I don't want to become a lazy engineer, I like configuring things by CLI.
    We are going to end up with network admins who can write scripts to config stuff but have no clue how to troubleshoot if something actually breaks. I have seen umpteen paper CCNP engineers who have the theory down cold but ask them to troubleshoot an issue, things quickly fall apart.
    As a network engineer, I have no desire to learn coding, it bores me to tears.

It's very infortive especially schedulling task while you doing your happy hour at a bar and your machine has upgraded it ISO and veryied successfully and email or text me. That what Weekend change has been completed on friday 7pm and confirmation all is well prior to Monday meetings...cool. Thanks

    Here’s the problem with DNAC. They always associate DNAC with SDA. When people hear DNAC they hear SDA when it’s just a management platform that you can use without actually configuring SDA (strictly for assurance purposes and network management purposes). SDA terrifies most companies

    Hey David!
    With all these advances in networking, everything seem to be automated soon, do you think that new people to networking like me studying CCNA these days have any chance to get a jobb in the future? because when i see that everything is automated so i can say that in the near future one network engineer will be enough to run what 10 network engineers do now! so is it still attractive trying to be a network engineer?

    • @jasongooley1984
      @jasongooley1984 5 лет назад +3

      Hi Moudar! I would say yes! Because even though some things may be automated, you will still need to know how everything works as well as how to design and operate networks. These are fundamental to the success of our networks of the future. Keep at it! -JG

      Just be better than the other 99 guys who didn't learn to automate and who have been replaced by a script - however, the truth is we are not automating to a 10 to 1 ratio or even a 100 to 1 ratio... we are doing it hundreds and thousands of devices - so those who want to be the next generation engineers need to plan their career accordingly and yes - the fundamentals are a must.

      It will literally be decades before this actually becomes common place, Cisco seem to think this is going to happen overnight. Network engineers will just push against this and 90% of companies will not implement it any time soon.

    Sounds to me a glorified repository for storing configs and mgt of configs. But you got to buy another appliance/software. Why don't they integrate this with PRIME? Is there additional licensing? Don't u need more appliances or hosts for resilience?
    Still your device needs to establish connectivity before it can do anything. Whereas I can have a switch preconfiged with a config archived from PRIME (replace switch) or a template I simply copy to cli or have PRIME roll out custom configs via SNMP.
    What if your network mgt vlan is blocked from the internet and your dna server is offsite?
    I think this Cisco recognising most of the time consultancy sends out CCNAs or lower to remote sites to install switches. Removing some skill from the equation.

    • @jasongooley1984
      @jasongooley1984 5 лет назад +2

      It certainly includes a lot of the features of Prime. However, it is capable of much more. As well as it is also the main software controller that is used to manage and assure your network's performance. Customers have been asking for a single platform for the campus network. This is it. Also, just like any other important component of the network, redundancy and resiliency need to be considered during the design phase.
      As far as plug and play, the device will connect to DNA Center to download the config and image without having to have a device pre-configured with a config. Meaning, devices can be simply ordered and shipped directly to the end location without having to stage it with a config or image. This really streamlines the process and gets our customers to the point of being able to use the devices in a much quicker and reliable manner.
      Here is a good write up on PnP from Adam Radford:

      @@jasongooley1984 Thx. I'll read up on it. From briefly looking at it. It looks similar to how lightweight WAPs are provisioned on wireless controllers. Looks like its utilizing similar discovery methods.
      Is DNA in actuality a switch/router controller?

    I can do some of this with SolarWinds. Overall this product is not worth the $$$. Im limited by hardware type, hardware vendor and software code. Southbound APIs will need to be supported for various vendors and I don't see that at all yet. I like the concept, i really do but I dont know Ciscos SDN strategy. APIC/SD-WAN/SD-ACCESS/DNA...Its a mess. As a customer what should I get? Cisco doesnt even know. Ill take a hard pass on this for now..I will look at this in a year.
