      1ZZ-FE is a good economy engine the 2ZZ-GE has a faulty oil pump system at high rpm it can suck all the oil out of the pan, suck air, and blow up. Best of luck.

      Not sure about the Celicas in America but over here in New Zealand we get ours from japan and the GT(1zzfe) has a torsion beam rear axle and the GTS(2zzge) has a multilink rear suspension so you will still be missing out on that suspension design if doing this swap.

Thanks dude between you and there’s another kid whose ripping these apart off I’ve been inspired to work on these beauties. It’s a great hobby and reasonably affordable. By the way my GTS only has 105K and It’s been garage kept so I’m in ricerocket heaven.

    Hi Scott - EXCELLENT videos. Removed RWD engines prior and having difficulty with 1ZZ Automatic Removal. Saw your other video and it was for 2ZZ. Does the transmission need to come out with the engine on a 1ZZ? If so, does it need to drop thru and not pulled thru the top? Many thanks!

    • @TSRGarage
      @TSRGarage  4 года назад

      There should be enough room for the motor to come out once the flexplate/ flywheel bolts are removed from torque converter. I have not pulled one out separately on a Celica. But I have pulled a 1zz from an older automatic Corolla. The amount of space between engine and frame is similar. it is a tight fit.
      If pulled together automatic or standard can be pulled out through the top.

    I had my engine swapped on a 2004 Toyota Celica GT. Also the IAC, ECU, power steering pump, radiator was replaced new. 2 problems the engine bounces 1000 rmps to 2000 rmps an back just keeps doing that when the clutch is in. Even after driving it, it gets better but not like it should be. No one can figure it out. 2 problem. by the radiator there is a small hose I think from the coolent system and they could not find where it went to so the capped it with a screw. The manifold is plastic not metal would that have anything to do with it. Any help would be great from anyone. Thanks

    Thank you so much for making this video! You've answered quite a few of my questions I had, but a few I still have. I'll be making this exact engine swap soon from my GT's 300k 1zz engine which drinks oil and fouls plugs almost weekly to a lower mileage JDM GTS engine.
    First question, I've read that the JDM ECU from Japan has an immobilizer feature yet most of the engines for sale have the ECU (presumably from Japan) sold along with the engine. Would I need to then buy a US ECU?
    Secondly, I didn't see you changed out the throttle body cable. I had read that you have to swap the GT's throttle cable out with one from a GTS. Most of the JDM engines seem to have them hacked off when they pulled the engine. Will the original GT 1zz throttle cable work with the GTS 2zz engine?
    (dissent disclaimer) I know it'll be a lot of work, but honestly I've had mine for 16 years and I don't want a different car let alone one of the new electric things. So that's why I'm doing the swap and upgrading.

    • @TSRGarage
      @TSRGarage  5 лет назад

      I have not sure about JDM ecu's immobilizer. All ECU's I have are US with out immobilizer. Yes the throttle cable will need to be changed. At about 18 minutes you can see the throttle cable on it is the 1zz. It attaches at the wrong angle. And about it being a lot of work it is but I believe it's definitely worth it. Thank you for your comment. It's good to see the number of people that this video has helped. I also have a complete engine swap video (3 parts) ruclips.net/video/-_45nRzyWBs/видео.html

    I'm thinking of swapping my 1.4vvti 4zz e11 corrolla with a 1.8 vvtli 2zzg I was wondering how to go about getting lift to work as the 1.4 does have lift but would the looms be the same

    • @TSRGarage
      @TSRGarage  4 года назад

      I am not sure about that. So some "thoughts" .... some engine/trans mount fabrication, axles ?, but thats the easy part.
      I don't think the harnesses would be the same. Question would be "will the 4zz Corolla computer run the 2zz?". (Sensors /inputs outputs may be different)... If it will you would have to get wiring diagrams and make (modify) a harness.
      I think you may need the 2zz computer and engine wiring harness. Then you would have to figure out how to get it to work with the Corolla wiring and gauges.
      PS I miss the days when an engine swap was motor mounts, throttle cable, an ignition wire and a starter wire😁.

  • @Mr76chevynova
    @Mr76chevynova 4 года назад

    So did you swap the wire harness or just the ecu.I have the same exact car,without a sunroof.I wanted to put the 2 zz in it but other sources online made it seem quite difficult.Mine is an automatic though,and the 2zz is a standard can I still use the engine?

    • @TSRGarage
      @TSRGarage  4 года назад

      I swapped engine and trans , wiring harness and ecu. (Both cars were manual trans).
      If you are swapping engine and transmission. You will need the ecu (the correct ecu for the trans that you are using) and wiring harness. Or you will have to add wires for the lift solenoid and pressure switch. The manual ecu will not work with automatic.
      If you are trying to use the 1zz auto with the 2zz. I dont know much about the automatics. Im going to say it will not work. The automatic transmissions are different, and even if you had an auto 2zz ecu, as far as I know it will not work with 1zz auto trans...
      Hope this helps.

    • @TSRGarage
      @TSRGarage  2 года назад

      Throttle cable adjustment....If the throttle plate is closing all the way then I would look for a vacuum leak. Check all hoses and connections to the intake manifold. PVC line, Brake booster hose, emission control vacuum lines, those are the most likely causes when doing an engine change. and check the hoses for cracks / leaks.
      And I might add, everyone is always sure everything is connected correctly .... until they find the problem 🤔myself included 😁 . good luck I hope you find your problem

    Couple questions on GTS 6-speed manual transmissions:
    What is the top gear ratio...or, better, what is engine RPM at, say, 65 MPH with the 6-speed?
    Aslo, is the GTS' wheel/tire the same overall diameter as the GT?
    I'm looking for this info 'cause I felt a little nervous about running my 1ZZ engine all day at nearly 4,000 RPM at 70-75+ MPH as I went on a two-day, 1,200 mile, jaunt to watch the solar eclipse last summer....central Wisconsin to central Missouri.
    Also...I have a tip back at Ya' for those pesky power steering pump mount sleeves: Natch, here in the rust belt, those sleeves want to be smacked a little harder than I felt comfortable, given the wall thickness of the front cover casting. Brother and I took a short bolt with the bottom of its head resting on the offending sleeve. (between the mount lugs!) On the other end, (wheel end) a stubby socket with a couple thick washers under the nut screwed onto that short bolt tuned the assembly into a very effective screw press.

    Couple of questions- is the exhaust the same from the bottom of the manifold- meaning the centre section with the Cat? Also- see the cooling pipe that is fitted to the ECU is that different too? I have a T Sport which is I guess the GTS there and can't figure out how the cooling pipe is routed on this, I had a 1zz and I know how to fit it on that.

      Never actually drove this this car more than a few hundred yards. So I didn't change the gauges (Pulled engine back out) It is now my Celica GT-SS project (see videos on my channel).
      The gauge panel faces, speedometer and tachometer are different.
      They Will Work. but the gauge readings will not be completely accurate.
      Both use the same degrees of needle sweep but different numbers
      Tach: GT 8,
      GTS 9 grand
      Speedo: GT 150,
      GTS 160
      I would change the gauge cluster. Not sure if just changing the gauge face plate would work. It might.

    So I bought the MWR 2zz swap package. I got a question for you that maybe you can answer for me... On the collector side of the exhaust header there's a verticle splitter plate... Looking at this splitter it is bent towards the transmission side... It kinda seems like it was engineered to be that way but I'm also kind of wondering if it got bumped somewhere along the way and became bent that way... Any recollection of what this is supposed to look like?... The bend seems pretty extreme to me and the heat shield has a crack in it.

    • @TSRGarage
      @TSRGarage  5 лет назад

      You're talking about the divider in the header. The divider should be straight It lines up with a divider in the exhaust tube under the car. As far as I know its main function is to keep the exhaust flow straight and help it stay hot towards the catalytic converter. For emissions control as the motor heats up. I think you are correct was probably damaged in shipment.

      Yes. the cable from the cruise to the engine is different. The end at the throttle body is different. At 20:10 you can see a GT cable connected to the throttle body (it has a longer curved metal tube).

I'm now idling around 900 rpm at running temp and the idle surge is much less severe and only happens intermittently...
