Hi Susie, You don't get to choose but I contacted camps that I liked and told them I would really like to work there. MCW was a camp that I had found and contacted. I gave them my CA membership number and they checked out my profile. And after a couple of skypes I got placed there. But usually you are assigned a place with a camp that likes you.
Almost finished my application and am really hoping to get placed! Any tips, tricks or advice? Also, was it the best time of your life? Would you recommend the experience? What was you're favourite aspect?
Hey Pops Last Fiasco Run , I was just wondering what kinda job you were doing in Whistler? (at a Resort?) /How'd you get a job there? I've applied for Camp America 2015, and thinking about working in Canada for options afterwards - just watching your vid, it looks so amazing there! Cheers, Holly! :)
Hey Holly, I just rocked up in Whistler and went round looking for a job. It's pretty hard as there are a lot of people who come over doing the same thing, but you'll be able to find something. I work for a place called Splitz which is a burger place but I get a discounted ski pass and tips at the end of the season. If you work for the mountain you get a free pass, so definitely check out the Whistler Blackcomb site. I would suggest getting over here in September - theres lots of jobs going now for the season. The hardest part is finding somewhere to live - housing is expensive! Its an awesome place to live though. Glad you liked the video - good luck! x
Aah okay thanks for replying, that info helps haha! i'll definitely check them out. Also, If you don't mind me asking - what do you think would be a (minimum) / good amount of money to come prepared with? I've gotta start saving for life after camp now i think! haha. Are you heading back to Camp again next year, or are you done with that sorta thing now? Thanks again x
No worries! If you are heading straight to Canada, they say you need to have at least $2500 (about £1500) the good thing about Canada is the pound is worth almost double here! You will want enough for first months rent and deposit, as well as a bit to keep you going until you get a job. I came with about £2000 and that was definitely enough. Obviously the more you have the better! I'm not sure what my plans are after this winter yet, I may go back to camp again, or might head somewhere different! :) x
Hey! Make a video - my Director placed me based on it, so they really help. Have a look at camps & email them - not too long just 'I like the look of your camp, here is my application number' I emailed my camp! It was an amazing experience, I would defo recommend it. I met awesome people, amazing kids and got to see a part of the world I wouldn't of otherwise! It can be tiring as you work non-stop, but the pro's outweigh the cons, it's such an amazing opportunity. Do it!! :) x
Hey, Try and get everything early as soon as possible! Means you have a better pick of the camps. Yeah there were 4 people at the same camp on my flight! Good luck! x
Hi I am applying for camp america now in August when summer 2015 applications open! Just want to ask, your camp was in California, I know your flight to new york is included in the price but did you have to pay extra to get to the camp in california? Also did you fly or bus it there? Thanks!! :)
Awesome video! I take off in 3 weeks! Cannot wait!!! Hopefully my YMCA Camp Hi-Rock will be just as awesome as your camp seems!
Hi erin, definitely do it! It was amazing? X
