Before I see it again, I said in the Anaconda video I'd announce it in a week or so. It's only been FOUR days. I've never not announced a giveaway winner. I'm about to add a day for every time I'm asked when. Just stop.
Definitely will be my next fixed blade buy. I have the Tops C.U.T. 4.0 and love it, it's a great compact fixed blade with an awesome karambit style handle that is actually ergonomic and comfortable.
PM101, ok so I did buy the Operator 7, and while I don't think of myself as having any Incel tendancies, if I did they are now gone for sure! The Backpacker's Bowie I do like and it's on my list...btw the Operator 7 is suprisingly nimble for such a hefty blade. Nice to see Tops puttin some more reasonably thick scales on stuff.
I really like this knife. Handle could be bigger but it's pretty good. 7 Rattles Bushcraft has a nice kydex sheath for this at a great price ready to ship
Nope not close. Backpackers bowie is much better. Not as thick as the OKC 499 AFSK. Much ligher too. I have both. The Tops Backpackers Bowie is soo much better imho.
I could use that knife for just about any thing really. cutting open the steak package, and then cutting the steak to eat it, cutting the mail open, the dog food bag. and then go into the woods and cut other things it just perfect.
I am actually thinking about picking up a BOB...this one, tho, and his price, actually distracted me 😂 bear in mind, I'm Italian... everything costs a lot, knife-wise, here
@@Guy1105Fawkes It''s a good wood processor, but that's it. It's rather thick. That's mostly all I do with a knife in the woods anyway, I rarely use it for food. I played with it in my kitchen and thought it was blocky and not the best, but it works. It's a very high quality knife, but I think it is over priced. I've been thinking a while about getting a Mora Kansbol or Garberg for something lighter and stainless steel. I'll never steer someone away from the BOB if they're determined, but there are cheaper more versatile options.
@@farstrider79 thanks man, really appreciated. I was just looking for a nice knife for wood processing (mostly), rope and cord cutting and very rarely food prep. I don't baton (I bring an axe/hatchet or an Italian tool, the RONCOLA) and I really care about practicality. So I wanted my primary blade to be rather small, so that I could wear it on me all the time when I'm out in the woods/mountains, and on the lighter side (I don't mind heavier ones, but I ended up never using my BK2 because of its weight)
@@Guy1105Fawkes If you gave up on the BK2 then you'll give up on the BOB also. Both are good knives meant to be an all in one knife and axe. If you already carry an axe, you could easily get along with a lighter knife.
Nice knife... you like this bowie you'd love the TOPS Dawn Warrior. A more capable knife including defense. Great hiking trail, woods, and general camp knife. To much TOPS? Then the Kabar Jarosz Turok is one he'll of a knife. Great review btw.
Dammit Chris.. Now I gotta buy this one. I'm really interested. Props to Tops for this design. I think a small glass breaker would have been a nice touch here. But nice regardless.
Gotta get one of those! Awesome looking knife! My hands are the same way(M/L). Hard to find a good knife that fits my hands perfectly. Way to go TOPS!!
Really cool knife. Great for plain old basic camping. Like Chris said, its not a specialist. Not your dedicated survival (though I think it would fit into that to some degree if necessary) or a bushcraft knife. The top notch is a bit more reasonable than some i have seen (like the Buck Hoodlum) so I actually like it on this design. The handles are very similar to the Tops Cat/scout, but they look a bit thicker which is nice for this purpose. I also agree with Chris on this being a good looking knife. We seem to have similar taste in that regard. Great video as always. I have yet to find any other youtuber that is brutally honest in admitting when they are bias, and consistent about giving a detailed review while giving opinion when its appropriate.
In my humble opinion you are the best reviewer on RUclips, I only wish when you review knives you would tell us weather there available in a left handed option. You do it sometimes but not always. Thanks Chris, Stay Safe !
Yup! A good one alright. I was wondering about this knife. In truth, though, a real gram weenie, like myself, uses tiny little Swiss Army knives. Their smallest, for long trails. For fun in the bush, however, for a day or days of carving and chopping, I like carrying something big ass crazy like a Kukuri or ridiculous chopper. // New subject, since you'll probably never read this or care, Why do you hate Alaska? I mean, the Tops, Alaskan Harpoon knife. Just thought I'd ask, again :o)
Thanks for reviewing. You may have just saved me. Like you, I love the design and concept. Unfortunately, I have bear claw hands so not sure it is going to be an investment of mine. Heading to SMKW next month so going to wait to get my hands out it before doing a blind buy. Thanks again for the info!
As a pretty serious backpacker, that knife is as cool as the vengefull one cause it has it's own purpose and is perfect for your belt, not all knives have to be cool, but all knives have to work. It looks like it does and tops is not new to the game. Great vid, see you next time.
Love this knife, not much different than my 2 Tops Police Interceptors I have , very similar style even though the interceptor is a tanto. Also have a Skullcrusher from Tops absolutely love the way they come up with there stuff. I really want that operator 7 is a beautiful work horse! Great video's keep'em coming, Cheers!
Perfect size for any backpacker, but you know that some haters would say is too long and too heavy. I might be wrong but the so call tru hikers for some reasons prefer folding knives rather than fixed ones... personally, you couldn’t go wrong with a TOPS knives... great video...
Carlos Sepulveda I'm not a hiker, but I've read some threads on backpacking forums and some thru hikers won't even carry a knife. Some are content with a razor blade. Some will source and carry a Vic Classic with the scales removed.
Chris, it looks like it would be a real handy knife to me especially for the price point. Is it a saber grind? I didn't hear you say. Thanks buddy.Tennessee
I just dont get why knife companies design knives, especially smaller knives, with the edge starting nearly an inch away from the grip portion. IMO having the edge as close as possible to your driving force is an important feature to have...otherwise, nice design.
Unfortunately I wear large to x-large gloves. So my guess is I would be riding on top of one of the finger grooves. Shame they don't make it with first finger cut out then the rest with a palm swell and just leave the rest of the handle smooth and a little Good review don't punish the rest of us who wait quietly for the announcement.
Hi Chris the great Hiram Cook (I love to watch Hiram boil water) calls lightweight backpackers 'the gram weinies' my hands are 2xl/3xl so....Im used to having my pinkie in the breeze my biggest problem is finding winter gloves
I'd note that you seem to carefully overlook the very obvious jimping on the top of the handle and for the most part kept it out of view and only referred to the front jimping. You like the feel of the handle but bad no observation about that. It seems the jimping against the hand would be an annoyance. Still I am thinking about getting one. Great review as always.
Like most smart people I have a multitool and I get the feeling that line item was added as an afterthought. The other old TOPS knives that say break wire have sharp edges in the notch. This does not.
Vagabonding thru Europe a very popular book about backpacking in the seventies. The guy used a Buck Cadet knife ! That backpacker Bowie is total bust !
Listen !! Those comments about a rape whistle with that bird is not funny , my cousin loved this knife hahahahaha Damn it I thought I was done buying knives but now I gotta explain to my wife why this knife is needed
This is the kind of knife I would probably use 90% of the time in real world situations. It is user friendly for men and women. Tops doesn't make many losers.
Sharpened swage same as a guard, for stabbing people, that sheath looks great pointer finger right where it needs to be for thoes purpose. If you get a sharpened swage than you could use that for sticking your farro rod. Good review but I dislike when people box knives as in its not this or that. I'm guessing that would make a good fighter and bushcraft is over used now a days.
So, I'm guessing that I wasn't the . winner, what a bummer - I heard a while back that the ra n Dom picker wasn't so random(?), know anything about that?? (I'm a TOPS fanatic) I never win what I'd really want to - since I can't get it myself being at the "recognized poverty level" and can't do anything about it.... Sincerely, totally bummed out!😧
Randy sounds from your comment you kind of sound like a bum... If you want to be one that's your choice but don't try to make other people feel bad because you didn't win a contest, it's ridiculous
Before I see it again, I said in the Anaconda video I'd announce it in a week or so. It's only been FOUR days. I've never not announced a giveaway winner. I'm about to add a day for every time I'm asked when. Just stop.
PREPAREDMIND101 are you or Will planning to review the Esee PR4?
LOL
Hey PM101. Jw. But did you ever do a review of the Smokejumper?
If you didn't come off as such a dick all the time, you're channel would probably do better.
If I bought everything I liked on your channel, I'd have knives. No house no car no food just knives.

Yep, I could EDC this. Even some light battoning?
Bought this. Love it.
Mine says X-450.
I like the Camp Creek nessmuk handle feel better though.
But the bowie handle works too.
Yes my Friday is now complete !
Would you ever consider doing a review on a Benchmade fixed blade? More specifically the Benchmade Steep Country Hunter
Looks like a Ontario 499 Air Force Survival Knife but with a better tang.
Nope not close.
Backpackers bowie is much better.
Not as thick as the OKC 499 AFSK.

Looks like a nice knife. As a backpacker, I'm not giving up my Tops BOB or my Ontario Blackbird. Both have served well as backpacking blades.
I am actually thinking about picking up a BOB...this one, tho, and his price, actually distracted me 😂 bear in mind, I'm Italian... everything costs a lot, knife-wise, here

I like everything about this little knife.
I own one and I like it. A handy mid sized knife !
WOW, I like the way the knife and handle looks.
Handle is just as important as the blade for sure. It's like trying on sneakers and boots.🤘🤘👊👍
I actually feather stick the same way. I think it's easier and provides better thinner curls.
I’m normally a boring knife kind of guy. Usually avoid the more commando looking stuff but that looks pretty badass. A snake eater knife!

I really like the look of the handle, and the rest of the knife. The price seems perfect for this one too. Good vid ty
The blade shape reminds me of the old Air Force Survival Knife, which makes it very appealing to me.
Chris that's a great looking edc knife for the working guy or gal. The price is a comfortable that won't break the bank.
I'll be adding this to the collection for sure!
I like your first impression videos🤓 Keep it up . I might have to buy one of those now😀

CSharp absolutely, I have heard that as well... in my opinion, too extreme... I rather be prepared...thanks for your opinion
Carlos Sepulveda I'd rather be prepared as well. If be like Reese Witherspoon at the beginning of Wild, with a pack so heavy I couldn't lift it.
damn, wish Will was there, really wanted to see how someone with big hands feels about it.

Yes
It's a "backpacker's knife" the guard is for stabbing bigfoot.
Really like the look of this.

Nice knife. I like the handle.
Can you get it without the notch?
No
it does not feel/ seem like it would have enoff use to it. like smaking it with a stick to cut threw to make firewood
I like everything about the knife but the deer skinning tool on the back by the point
Looking cool does matter!
Take away the notch and jimping on the handle and I'm buying it.
CDH Carry, Cold Dead Hands. Gear. that can never be parted with. unless killed or after death.

Nice stout knife. I have a Camillus Barbarian

Yes
