Therefore, the jump between gears is THAT much longer, in the anime we're mostly introduced to a battle-scene when they're already in 3rd gear or higher, rather than being there all the way from absolute stand stills>top speed, hence, not as frequent gear changes! :)

One of the things I love about Wangan Midnight is how they make cars seem like mythical apex predators that wander the concrete plains of the highway, looking for prey to catch. Beasts that you would stare at awe from a distance but you would never tango with them otherwise you could get bit.
Maybe in recordings of an f1. In real life they sound way better. My buddies dad actually owns an f1. Well he owns alot of ridiculous cars but drool the f1 will always be my grail. Well besides maybe a paganism Zonda r or that one road legal Porsche 917 or whatever the le mans car was.
But part of the charm with L-series is the rocker arm clatter :D Btw someone milled off the front of a RB26 head (to make the camgears accessible for internal sump) and added coolant pipe on the outside = poor man's L-series twin cam :)
i really love wangan midnight, but the only thing that gets me that there is no real turbo sound except for the one downshift at 1:30. The Devil Z sounds grateful for a NA triple carburetor ,but not as a twin turbo

Ryuji Ikeda's Nissan Fairlady Z33 from Initial D Fifth Stage also uses the same sound for the engine. Perhaps because both Wangan and Fifth Stage share the same audio studio (so I've heard)

It’s not too far off the L-series. For what the original sample was originally recorded from its a very good alteration to sound similar to the older engine. It’s close but the Turbo L-Series is definitely deeper in tone and the lack of turbo “whistle” as it spools was definitely something I noticed when I first watched the series.

All the way around. Initial D Fifth Stage used the same sound samples from WM, since the studio was the same. For the Wangan Midnight anime, they hired 3 real life highly tuned cars to record all sounds. For the Z, they used Star Road S30Z, tho it's an NA engine they managed to get a turbo feeling of it. Please don't spread miss information.
I just noticed and I've seen this series a dozen times. But at 2:45 you see Akio his tacho right around 6k or so rpm. At 2:50 you see the laptop displaying the rpm being at idle, while cruising at 210kph😂🤔. Also, I always noticed that the engine was pretty vocal for a (twin) turbocharged engine. You know, throaty like itb's (which it has in the form of triple dual barrel carbs, behind the turbo labeled intake manifold) and open airfilter. Whereas turbo's often muffle the sound loudness in general, but mainly removing a bit of the aoudibility of each piston exhaust pulse, due to all 6 of the exhaust pulses being bunched together inside the turbine. Rather than those pulses making their way out the back "individually" so to say. I could be wrong though, I have heard plenty of engines, but never heard an L-Type before. Also never an engine irl before and after turbocharging, videos don't do sound justice btw.

Most likely, Kitimi bought the L28 longblock, bored the cylinder and used a stroked crankshaft, and then twin turbod with either twin or triple carbs (I'm leaning towards twin, one for each turbo) and then put it in this 240z, since the 240z has an L24 engine stock. The real life version of the devil z was actually a fuel injected L28ET in a red 280zx, funnily enough. It also ran on the Wangan and was this car's main inspiration.

Some turbos don't have sound. It is a stock turbo. Plus they recorded an N/A car so hope that answers it after 3 months lol
