  • Cutting large sycamore logs with my new Tuatahi M Tooth work saw, which can be used as a single or double buck saw. Very impressive cutting ability and the workmanship is outstanding.

      Its bloody hard work, doesn't help that my technique is off and the log is low to the ground though. After each cut i need a couple of minutes to recover lol

    I subbed, I have worked many a axe. Not the buck saw though. My "extra " income is selling fire wood. I also burn it when the weather gets extreme. Or when under the weather, nothing warms the bones like a hot fire. That saw has some nice metal it sings .

      Buck saw is pretty difficult technique, i'm still getting the hang of it. 2 people make it much easier. Its surprisingly effective but i'm not selling my chainsaw any time soon!

    Hi, It is worth buing the 4 feet version for firewood? Mostly i bucking hardwood like live oak. Now i work with lynx 3 feet champion tooth saw. Its not the better saw in the world, cutts well but needs frequenty sharpening and broke a little one top of a tooth in the first 4-5 uses. I don't think it will last long in my hands 😂. Tuatahi looks high quality but its too expensive if include shipping costs, taxes, customs clearance fees. Are these type of saw much faster than others on fresh hardwood like oak?

      Is there a reason you dont want to use a chainsaw?

    • @DogFishAttack
      @DogFishAttack Год назад

      @@benscottwoodchopper There are many reasons. Basically I hate chainsaws, I don't even want to see them. They are very dangerous, they make a lot of noise and can aggravate my asthma. I love cutting my firewood by handsaws.

    Wow what a saw!! Is it much more tiring than the bahco bowsaw? I am interested for the 4 feet version.

    • @benscottwoodchopper
      @benscottwoodchopper  2 года назад +1

      the 4 feet is a ideal size. its more effort to push and pull but it cuts far more timber in comparison to a bowsaw meaning less work overall

      @@benscottwoodchopper when the whole trunk is in contact with the ground, can the Tuatahi 4 be used easily? Probably have to work it many times on my knees.

      @@DogFishAttack ideally you dont want to have it lying on the ground entirely with any saw otherwise you blunt the teeth. if you can raise it even a little it helps a lot

    It's an enchanting noise...like bells...do you find it soothing or annoying in person?

      @benscottwoodchopper  4 года назад

      good question, really when I am sawing I am just trying to concentrate on breathing, too tired to be annoyed at anything

    Why use such a large buck saw instead of a silky? I could see a saw like this engaging more muscle groups, and allowing you to work in a more natural (circular) motion, but it seems so much larger (doesn't fold) and heavier. If operated properly, can this saw work faster than a Silky?

    • @benscottwoodchopper
      @benscottwoodchopper  4 года назад

      I use this saw to train for stihl timbersports, you can get a lot more power and a longer stroke with this kind of saw. It is 6 foot, about 5kg, a silky is not comparable in the slightest, but side by side I wold put money on this being 3 times faster

      @@benscottwoodchopper I saw a Wranglerstar video ("survival saw shootout") where he does a head 2 head with a Silky katana boy (not even the largest model) and a bucksaw, which is much larger than the Silky. I'm not sure if it was a great test, since it looks like the Silky guy is sawing faster (rather than comparing how much wood is removed with each stroke), although it appears the Silky is noticeably quicker. Your timbersports saw is probably larger and higher performance, but it didn't seem impossible that a very large silky might be in the same ballpark. I really don't know, but I'd be curious to see.
      I wonder why each one is designed the way it is, ito of tooth shape/size/pattern and blade width.
