    I live in a developing area and it's not just HOA's that try to take peoples property. One lady watched them build condos on 40 acres of her property waited till people started to move in. Then she called the police went to the developer showed him 30+ years of property tax records and claimed the property. The developer blamed the surveyor. It was in all of the papers for weeks. The same thing happened about 15 miles away. I went to install phone cable in a new equestrian center at a new development of multi million dollar houses. There was an old farmer watching me hook up to the main cable. He told me he sold 400 acres to the developer for the center. The farmer's family had been there for generations and when the state put in the nearby highway they assumed it was on the property line. It was not. A large piece of the property was cut off by the road. When the developer who assumed he owned all of the property on the side of the road across from the farmer found out the farmer owned property on both sides of the road. The state and the developer both had to pay the farmer. The developer had already built a few mansions on the property. It was a major development that covered 5 miles of shoreline on one of the great lakes. The farmer must have received a big settlement. After the farmer told me the story he told me his brother had died the week before and he had no family left. He said he wanted to die on the farm with his cows. He still had over 500 acres left. He looked very sad and lost. Just writing this story makes me sad.

      Doing that can backfire though. Some local governments will use eminent domain to seize land ‘for the common good’ and then immediately sell it to the developer, or even give it to the developer for free in hopes of future tax revenues. The courts have ruled it legal in the USA.
      Since the government is in charge of valuing property, and any payouts for land seized via eminent domain are based on that valuation, many long-time landowners who didn’t sell to developers have gotten utterly screwed. Governments can easily draw out court cases against them until the cost of suing exceeds the value of the seized land or until the plaintiff dies of old age.
      The only defense against eminent domain is to have allodial title to your land. Only a couple states have ever granted allodial titles, and none currently do. The typical cost of acquiring allodial title, when it’s available at all, is to pay 100 years of property taxes as a lump sum - though it’s worth noting that allodial land titles are immune to property tax after that.

      @@bergmanoswell879 I Know the farmer was well compensated. There was an even more interesting case when I lived down state Michigan. The Grosse Point Yacht club wanted to add a fire lane around the docks. They received permits for the work. The land owners across the street sued to block them from filling in the lake for the access road. The deeds to the property showed they owned through riparian rights miles into the lake to the Canadian border. The court upheld the deeds and blocked the project.

    Story 1: The moment you get the stupid letters, talk to a lawyer and send a cease and desist. The moment you find the poisoned meat, contact the police and report it as a threat on YOUR lives, as well as your farm animals and household pets. Then start setting up a vigil, with cameras.

    General rule of thumb:
    Even if you know the charges are bogus, DO NOT throw out any letters that are demanding payment for fines. They're handy evidence of continuing harrassment if/when it goes to trial, and especially if it can be demonstrated that they KNEW said fines did not apply to you.

    • @mwilliams1330
      @mwilliams1330 Год назад +9

      These things make the stories hard to believe. I understand throwing away the first stupid fine, but when your box is filled you need to take it seriously. You have video of a knife being held to your throat and you take it to the local police you suspect of being on the take???? They agree to process it and say the HOA tried to bribe them??? Come on, it just makes no sense.

    • @rogerramjet6429
      @rogerramjet6429 Год назад +3

      @@mwilliams1330 nope. Not hard to believe at all. Some people really are that stupid and think throwing away or ignoring fines, means they'll go away.
      The problem with this is, if you have to contest a fine within a specific time period, and just throw them out, then regardless of the situation, you're deemed guilty by default.
      It's called "default judgement" for a reason, and people complain all the time for being found guilty, because they never contested the notices.
      Does this represent justice?
      Absolutely not, but it's the way the system works to its benefit.
      Any legitimate attempt to initiate a fine, will list the period of contestable actions prior to a court date or the final date in which payment is expected.

      That ACTUALLY HAPPENED in Lowndes County Georgia about 30+ years ago. It was on the news and the lady reporter could hardly read the copy she was laughing so hard throughout the story. Here is the story as I remember it from our South Georgia news station (probably WALB out of Albany, Georgia or WCTV out of Thomasville, Georgia). Area was historically zoned AGRICULTURE. Farming was long established. Land began to be available for people to begin to build “nice country homes”. Large land owner saw an opportunity to serve the expanding community and make a little money while doing so. He made proper plans for a gas station/convenience store on HIS property. The new residents had an absolute fit. Complaints went from “too many people will be coming through”, “loitering of transients”, to “smog and air pollution”. It went through zoning arguments and finally went to a law suit and court. Evidentially it became an extremely heated fight. The land owner lost and had to give up their plan. Mr. Land Owner was a genius and OVERNIGHT activated his plan. Area historically zoned for farming. Fine! THE VERY NEXT MORNING (this is why the reporter was laughing so hard) residents began to call into the county and sheriff’s office about horrible odors out there. Mr. Land Owner put in an absolutely legal PIG FARM!!! Best malicious compliance/revenge story EV*VER! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

    Five Dudes: Depending on what the base does, uses or stores, someone trying to get unauthorized access can trigger a “deadly force” response. Even military personnel can trigger that response trying to go where they are not authorized. This is particularly true at a navy base that may have strategic assets in port at any given time.
    As a minor example, at one base I was assigned to I processed orders for detonation cord, grenades, shaped charges, rifle and pistol ammunition, warheads up to 100 pounds of high explosive.

    One thing i have noticed from all these farmers vs hoa stories, if you are a farmer and not part of an hoa and they start sending you letters and fines. DO NOT DELAY IMMEDIATELY LAWYER UP. GET A CEASE AND DECIST ORDER IN PLACE BEFORE THEY HAVE A CHANCE TO BLINK. Also put up no trespassing signs everywhere. If they send someone to threaten you.. well, drag them into your house and beat them until half dead. Then call the police and have them arrested for intruding. Also start recording your phone calls. like seriously every single one of them, that way when you find out that the police are taking bribes you have evidence.
    I cant fully understand howcome these hoas manage to find the one farmer who does not have half a dozen guns. If you tried that where i live.. well lets just say that guns are considered standard equipment for a farm, if for no other reason than pest management. pretty sure that these hoa bullies would end up getting shot in short order.

    The last story just brought up something from years back (though thankfully not as bad). There was a local record/CD/audio equipment store that had for a couple of years promoted a "Loudest Car in Town" contest. As you might imagine this got a lot of young men without a clue to go all in and stuff their glammed up rice burners with as much loud stuff as they could afford or steal. The last year I had the unfortunate luck to live about a block away from a house of young guys who were seriously dedicated to winning this contest. Don't get me wrong, I remember being young and dumb, but never anything on the nuclear level of acoustic violence these boys were perpetrating. After a week or so of their impressively loud music ramping up I finally lost it on one late Saturday afternoon. The bass notes from their setup were so loud I could feel it in my chest trying to rearrange my internal organs, and my young children were feeling the same pain. So I went all dad on them - drove around the corner in my cool family mini van and accosted a bunch of late teenaged boys throwing back the beers and, from the smoke haze, high as kites. "Who the f**k lives here?" I demanded. Surpringly, none of them admitted to ever having been at the house before. I yelled at them a bit in a way that taught them some interesting and creative vocabulary and said that if I heard one more sound I would be calling the cops. Then the more convincing argument. "Since none of you live here, just want to let you know that even the guy in that house is p***ed of with you. He's a full patch Hell's Angel (true) and he's not going to be calling the cops." Music was shut down and several cars that had been parked all over the lawn suddenly had somewhere else to be. Never happened again and that was, due to so many complaints, the last year that stupid contest was held. And I did lie about the HA guy being pissed off, but it was fun to see the punks suddenly realize that they had to visit a sick grandmother or something. Sometimes the best way to get the coackroaches to scurry is to shine a bright light on them or at least put the fear of stomping into them.
