I'd love to have my personal collection organized better, especially since I'm always completing a bunch of partial sets. Now that I'm getting settled, I'm going to work on that. I'm going to start with my misc new parts which is a much smaller collection. But I have a massive used collection from thrift store hauls. I have a bit that is sorted by color and then by part type, etc. But I'd say 90% is still unsorted, and the majority of that I still have to pull sets out of. While I'm bummed to move away from my good thrift stores for LEGO, it will give me some time to get caught up. You are so correct about the time vs profit. I've not sold any LEGO yet, but I spend countless hours sorting through thrift store tubs to pull out the sets and complete them from my personal collection and Bricklink orders. Mostly for my own collection, but many for gifts for my siblings/nieces. I've had to explain it to people that it's not the best system to try and make a profit, because like you say, all the time that goes into it. For me, it's worth it to get a set added to my collection (or for a family gift). I'll do it while watching TV or RUclips LEGO videos, etc. I enjoy it it as it's my personal hobby, but it's a lot of work. It just happens to be work that I enjoy. The personal satisfaction of completing a set that was in shambles or just parts is also nice.
Regarding headlight bricks. I've also found some with a thinner layer of plastic over the hole. It could be a slight change in the mold over the years. It would be nice to have separate letters after the item number for all the variations. They could keep the "undetermined" type as well. I miss the variants of the bottom part of plates. It could make it a lot easier to find plates for old sets.
For a color chart your white 16x16 in the "random drawer" comes handy ;) Just helping a girl completing her sets and managed to run out of 1x1 round in several colors… Not surprised about dark pink, but green and almost on dark bluish gray. About that "headlight brick" and it's slot: That slot was there from early on, but usually with very thin material over it. Also holes on the underside of plated should have started around when this set came. I remember first seeing them in 5590 one year earlier. On bricks however I haven't seen them until way into the 2000s.
Remember this set in stores back in the day. I got a partial set a few years ago. Finally started piecing it back together. Almost all done except the two boats.
Idk that I could ever run a Bricklink store. It is such a delicate balance between I want to keep this and I want to sell this. I want to keep everything lol.
I really love this set and have it in my collection also. Do you have 6541 intercostal seaport also? I would love to beable to to this also with my bricklink account but I'm not really sure how. I don't want to sell anything, but just to inventory my parts. Great video Jaabo!
Ok... I start to think that YT (or is it you???) reads my mind, I'm now making a BL list over parts I'm missing to build this set... Behold!! I get this video recommended.
It was nice to see your process for filling in the blanks of missing pieces for the set. Have to say, having that sticker sheet was a stroke of luck! One perhaps odd question - your shirt - "OR IS IT: - they look like a collection of perfect solids on your shirt.... though one might also refer to them as dice.... What is the shirt from, or what is it referencing? I like the design. Just not sure of the significance of the words.
Hi, I'm a regular viewer of your youtube channel and love your work. You have inspired me to start my own store and I love running it. Lately, I ordered a couple of parts from a BL seller in my country. When the package arrived, I saw that some parts were in bags, whilst some were just wrapped around with sticky tape and put into the envelope. Nevertheless, I left positive feedback but mentioned that parts were wrapped in sticky tape and therefore very sticky. The seller replied with a message to me in a very aggressive way that he is blocking me, and then ordered 10 parts from my store. Looking at the feedback he gave to people before, he will give me negative feedback for this transaction for no reason other than revenge. Is there a way that I could later remove this feedback? as this owuld be my first non-positive feedback and I would really want to stay on 100% praise. What should I do? Thanks for your reply :)
I saw your message also on Bricklink. Coincidentally I’ve been thinking about other bad seller practices from things I’ve felt with. He won’t last long with an attitude like that. I’ve seen other sellers leave nasty or retaliatory feedback when someone makes a legitimate complaint or they don’t respond except with feedback. Don’t assume he is going to leave negative. Odd that he would be upset after receiving positive but a constructive feedback. This is the way I’ve handled things from both buyers and sellers that do annoying or questionable things - I just block them. You can’t reason with unreasonable people. But if someone leaves retaliatory feedback you can appeal it with Bricklink. A inch of us once had a guy that was placing orders and immediately left negative feedback. Was just placing orders to do that. He got up to about 104 negative feedback before Bricklink banned him. Crazy it took that long but I think he had placed the 100+ orders all on the same day. All the negatives that he left got removed but his stayed and he got banned. If he leaves you negative be sure to report him
@@BrickTsar Wow, I can see that being a problem To the original poster, I would say two things - make sure those 10 parts will arrive in Pristine condition. Quadruple box them, Bubble wrap, everything. And then block him back. I think it should me impossible to buy from a seller whom you have blocked yourself from buying from you. It seems an underhanded thing to do. And also, what I would suggest is that you should contact BL - very calmly, and even state at the beginning that you are doubting that they can remove said feedback, but that you have suspicions that this was done in a retaliatory manner - ==And that you think they should investigate more than just your situation== with this seller/buyer. They will be able to see if X number of people have been banned from his store - and all then had orders placed by that seller, and then all those orders resulted in negative feedback. That is the sort of thing that is harder to detect, without doing that digging. It may not change anything, but at least you will have tried. And really, looking out for someone else down the road. Good luck!
you look very organised as long as we only see the store part of the basement :P working on piecing together that set myself, missing the most expensive parts of course, the forklift part and the base plates, if you can call them that
That's a big set. I remember it was quite expensive when new. I guess not many people bought it, hence rarity. It would be a great addition to your collection once you've pieced it together. Were the 'stickers' the transfer type that you have to soak in water? They're a nightmare! Its excellent that you have an almost complete sheet.
Hey I've got a question about bricklink, it's my first time and the sellers terms say "shipping methods for buyers in the United Kingdom: request for invoice", does that mean he will send me the invoice or I have to ask him for it?
Ask for it, remember to register with an email address for the seller to send it. When I did it, I got the seller to give me payment details for me to transfer the payment through PayPal. It's easier for me that way. I think he sent a payment request to my PayPal, and I cross-checked the request details with the PayPal details he gave me with the invoice email, and made the payment. Simple
They’ll send it. Some you can also ask for a quote. Request for invoice means you are committed to buy it regardless. Quote means you aren’t committed to buy it and someone else could possibly buy it
I've been parting out sets that are way too expensive on their own. The key is patience. Been burned too many times on "complete sets" on Bricklink. Doesn't always workout. Sometimes a set is cheaper than buying the parts.
I had a set I was looking for and a seller has it listed as complete but then in his terms he says he doesn’t acknowledge the stickers. You can’t really list it as complete without stickers dvd if it’s your personal preference. Stuff like that and what you’ve experienced makes me cynical towards complete sets but you are right - if you are patient you can deal with things
Lol! Yea - I had enough that I once had most of the main colors sorted by category which made it easier to find things. Now it’s a nightmare. I keep talking about sorting and I never do it
There should be an easier way to take parts from your own store. I know you can’t buy from your own store but one should be able to employ want list feature of the bricklink for this purpose.
I don’t think it’s a typical use for it. It won’t automatically subtract it or let me apply a specific wanted list. But usually I’ll just go through the list a subtract everything at once then pick it
@@BrickTsar How about this solution? Part out -1 quantity of such set... those pieces that matches that your inventory will be deleted / substracted... But then of course you should account for most of the parts that you already have with the incomplete set you got.... But at least you can handle it just in the part out phase... it even gives you a nice report of where to take the parts from your store when you consolidate the lots. PS: I was not sure if this negative parting out worked or not... just tried it and it works...
This video shows how badly you need to sort your personal collection. You don’t know how badly I want the launch and load seaport. It would compliment my 1986 airport and victory lap raceway

Nice job to find all the parts. You are lucky that you have so many pieces in your well organised store. Can`t wait to see this set complete.
Thanks! Only a few more to locate. If only I would sort my personal inventory as well
It looks like a nice port set, It reminded of back home of are port! Hopefully you could complete it!
Getting close. Worked on it more and have about 10 more parts to find
I too enjoy completing sets!
Fun part of the hobby

You definitely motivated me to finally check the inventory on this. I found everything but about 10 pieces so far

For what it's worth, the original set had headlight bricks with the holes (mine's still in the box). :)

I think they are just regular stickers. They are water proof but not the kind you need to soak in water to apply. Not decals
