“How eloquently the rite of anointing of the Priests’ hands in our Latin ordination tells a special grace and power of the Holy Spirit is necessary precisely for Priest’s hands! To touch the sacred species and to distribute them with their own hands is a privilege of the ordained.” (Domincae Canae, February 24, 1980)
“It is not permitted that the faithful should themselves pick up the consecrated bread and the sacred chalice, still less that they should hand them from one to another.” (Inaestambile Donum, Holy Thursday, 3rd April 1980)

It's not for us to touch it with our hands because that alone is the privilige and duty of the priest. It should be treated with the highest respect, and our duty is to accept it with humility and gratitude. We're not worth what we're given, to want even more would be disrespectful and prideful.

If people do not know of Saints such as St Terasa and their advice it is surely up to the clergy to tell of them. At our local parish church as soon as ended many people start chatting amongst themselves. It's almost as if Our Lord is forgotten. I look in my missal and find thanksgiving after mass but I don't see it happening in the flesh. I attended a tridentine mass in Krakow where there must have been around 400 in attendance. When mass finished there was total silence, the people steadily leaving, no one chatting. It was an inspiring atmosphere.

St. Teresa said she would have given her life for even just one of the rubrics of the Mass (the Roman Missal was promulgated in 1570, 15 years before her death. This Roman Missal which she knew and loved is the one in use today--in the Latin Mass). An excellent and most powerful book is Fr. Martin de Cochem's explanation of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in which there is this spectacular list: "77 Graces and Fruits to be Derived from Devout Attendance at Holy Mass". And this quote (and a hundred others as good!)"He who devoutly hears Holy Mass will receive a great vigor to enable him to resist mortal sin, and there shall be pardoned to him all venial sins which he may have committed up to that hour." - St. Augustine.

I love how you brought up this need for holy communions. I live 15 minutes away from a parish that has one of the most reverent NO’s and they also have TLM’s. It took me years to declare my love for the TLM because of some negative interactions. I decided to go exclusively to the TLM in 2021 and then TC hits. Needless to say, pray for the return of this mass in Ireland with a force! Jesus is present in all masses, but there are no words to explain how He is treated in the TLM. We can celebrate a person with going to McDonald’s or we can celebrate them with a Brazilian steal dinner. Both times you’re getting fed, but one has much more pomp. It is understandable now to call one the ordinary form and the other thd extraordinary form.
I personally am a loud rowdy person, but I love Low Mass. You can actually pray!

Robert, the reverence and piety with which I saw Mass being celebrated in the Novus Ordo rite is what led to my eventually discovering my vocation to sanctity in the middle of the world.
Beauty and truth at the service of the Gospel is always attractive. Everyone knows it! Unfortunately, young people, especially in the West, have been fed with a steady diet of secularist catechisms to innoculate them against the faith in the educational system. This has been going sincce the 60s with hardly any pushback from Catholic parents and the Church authorities.

Great podcast Robert. And you are 100% we need to really work harder.
For me attending Mass is my spiritual kick up the backside. What do I mean? It means a recognition that I am a sinner, unworthy. And that Mass is my chance to try to make reparation for my sins, to thank God for bestowing blessings and to ask him to try to help me to be a better person in my thoughts and my dealings with my fellow men/women. Holy Communion is the fusion of me to God to express all of that - and I only receive Communion if I have attended confession within the last 4 weeks.
Mass is my spiritual reboot. And I am always conscious that entering a Catholic church building, I am entering His house and therefore I do so as a sinner and as someone who needs His help and mercy.

Another great thought-provoking video from Robert, asking pertinent questions of us and our shepherds. Surely the answer is the tug-of-war between the liberal Church and the Traditional/Conservative Chuch? But, in the end of the day, our shepherds should be advocating reverence, respect and spirituality during our most powerful prayer i.e. the Mass and by their example should be showing us, the sheep, how! we should act and behave at Mass and in His church.
Look, for example, at the "custom" where a lot of Mass goers choose to congregate at the back of our churches, whether they want to leave early or don't want to be regarded as "holy Joes". If they truly believed what goes on on our alters they'd be clammering to get as near to the alter as possible. After all, that Person up there died for our sins and continues to shower us with His love and mercy, despite our lack of reciprocation!
We need to reassess our values, faith and belief - and react accordingly.
Please, please, please dear God enlighten us poor, ungrateful sinners!

I’ve been starting to visit the adoration room after mass for 15 minutes, if not just sitting in the pew for about 5 minutes. I need to start making it a regular habit to visit the adoration room for a full 15 minutes after every mass! I feel your pain brother. I became an alter boy in 1977. I have always loved mother church, even though I fell out of practicing for many years. Lastly, I love our priests, but have had many show a strong dislike for me from the moment they meet me, or at perhaps it’s my kneeling for communion, or what I say that might be considered traditional, I don’t know, but has greatly had a negative effect, and caused me to see them slightly more as an obstacle or hurdle to overcome, as I Try to progress in my faith and spiritual growth. One way I’ve successfully found to do this, is reading more about the fabulous saints through out history, and praying the seven sorrows rosary everyday and the typical rosary for that particular day. God bless, and here’s to keeping our gaze upon Jesus as we try to walk through these perilous and trying times. We are the church! And Jesus loves His bride! ❤
