Pruning Forsythia in Spring & WTH Is This?!

    This is so helpful! I haven’t pruned ours yet because I have been afraid too... my husband trimmed ours once and killed the bush! This bush is from our last house so it’s special. Your video makes me feel better about trimming it

    One other tip: the branches that are in contact with the ground will root and begin a new bush. Prune the low stuff to keep it from spreading.

      Unless you want it to! :) I've actually extended this hedge by (purposefully) doing just that. But it's a good point you make. Forsythia are very easy to propagate, and really you don't need to buy a plant at a store. Just take a cutting from the plant of a neighbor or friend and stick it in the ground. It will pretty much root. Thanks for the tip!

    Soooo wish these and lilacs would grow out here in AZ. Grew up in upstate NY these were my 2 favorite spring flowers. Would love to try them tho if anyone wants to send some..lol

      Unfortunately, forsythia does not have much of a fragrance. If you go right up to them and smell the flowers they have a...flower...scent, but nothing fragrant, like say a lilac. They're more a herald of the coming spring as they are one of the first plants to flower with a bright shock of yellow color. Sadly, also, it does fade fast
