People questioning his footwork need to realize this Guy is in the Top 10 for most cup series wins of all time. I think he knows how to drive better than you.
Harvick!! Really wow never knew that
Wow! The Guy With A Cup Series Championship And Loads Of Races Won Across Multiple NASCAR Divisions Is A Better Driver Than Somebody Without A License Typing A RUclips Comment! Who Woulda Guessed!
ZERO wins on a road course.... I think that is what people are trying to express....
@@conectiv03 Okay and people without ANY wins in the cup series are usually better drivers then most
Another new idea..... If it's not ur job u don't have a clue and u need to stfu about what that person should be doing.
Everybody is saying there’s no clutch pedal
There is. It’s not mandatory to use a clutch because the gears are straight cut. The only time you need to use the clutch is when you are starting the car or like it’s demonstrated in the pit stop, to get out of neutral
MikeyBlueEyes straight cut gears help, but it’s mostly because the transmission uses dog gears rather than synchronizers.
MikeyBlueEyes thanks for clarifying that. I was a bit confused
MikeyBlueEyes is that the clutch pedal above his right foot attached to the accel? Like he flicks it up?
effmerunning the thing above his foot is just something to pull the gas pedal up in case it falls to the floor so he doesn’t hit the wall. The clutch is all the way to the left and is kind of hard to see, when he does the pit stop you can see he moves his left foot on the brake pedal and the clutch pedal as well which is on the left
@@christiankalbfleisch I don't even think they help vs helical gears they are just stronger so they are almost always used in dog boxea
Man I mostly watch european racing, and this is EARGASMIC.
Lol
I miss the old F1 V10/V8 sound. That was great is well... ruclips.net/video/jS4Dh_EAfJI/видео.html
Yeah this is awesome
Yeah this is awesome
Welcome to NASCAR
Pretty neat pedal setup. I like seeing stuff that I dont normally watch. Never knew they were able to drive nascars like that
👍
Awesome
Don't understand why people are saying it's bad he didn't use the clutch or not doing the heel toe shifting style. Why use the clutch if its not as fast of really needed
Boomers need something to be outraged about
This comment didn't age too well.
@@sulphurous2656Conext?
Love NASCAR but when it's on a road circuit it's a different and incredible animal!
Yep
Each track you race at you set visual markers on the track to help complement either accelerating, rolling in out of corners. Alot goes into it with 40 other cars on track
Damn, he did the 34 car diiirrty
@@chrismathewsjr “filler driver” you mean Daytona 500 winner lol
Nah McDowell just sucks
@@joshuaunitt3009 Lucky Daytona 500 winner, that is.
Michael mcdowell was waste for a playoff spot.
@@4_14_fan He drives for a shitty team so considering he won the Daytona 500 should tell you he has talent
My favorite driver doing his thing #4
Ricky Rudd.... need i say more?
Boris said too!
Ricky is the heel toe god
Well mark martin and ernie irvan won more road course races in the 90s, love to see thier feet
Did he say my bad for turning the 34?
That looked intentional.
These things sound absolutely nuts. Reminds me of my e92 m3
They Rev to 9300 RPM
Oh my god that footwork is like lightning. I can't even fully depress the clutch pedal before he's blipped the throttle three times.
He doesn’t need to use his clutch for anything but get going from standstill because those cars have a dogbox manual instead of a manual with synchronizer rings.
Pretty much like almost every other manual racing transmission. Sequential or H-Pattern doesn’t matter.
Is this a joke? He's not using the clutch.
@@Dethmeister Excellent example of a post born of an American education well done m8
@@FeintMotion Right? He didn't even realize the clutch wasn't being used!
More road courses please, thanks!
Not really it got boring for me, because on the first couple of laps they were single file, and there is not a lot of passing going on
@@anthonychase6614 It's not about the actual passing. Racing is more about the pressure you put on the driver ahead, the different ways to approach passing. And road courses, at least for me, and this dude here, are better.
@@hosshydraa1181 still it gets boring, not a lot of passing going on is sonoma, but at the glen there was a couple of passes
@@anthonychase6614 it would be a lot less boring if you put an F1 driver in a nascar on a road course. They would make a more interesting show because they're more proficient in right turns and braking so on.
@@anthonychase6614 Mile and a half ovals are boring
A little love tap
Excellent video. Much appreciated.

Flashback of Ricky Rudd and the first time my dad told me i was going to learn how to drive manual and was thinking you crazy that to much work am not Rudd i was like 8 i use to think what i seen Rudd do on tv is how you have to drive on all manual car.
that was kind of weak I was hoping to see some bellarena heel toe action like the Japanese drivers......
Please tell me you're not a native speaker. "bellarena"
This is 'Murica!!!
They don't need clutch
** Stickers are everywhere!!!
Bell arena? You mean like where the Montreal Canadiens play?
Actually, Boris Said used the heel-toe action. He said once that because his feet were larger than an average driver's he could do that with more ease.
You must not know much about transmissions. He was doing something even harder than heel toe, clutchless shifting. And since this trans doesn't have synchronizers you can do that and it won't break anything. It's essentially the same as a motorcycle transmission.
Where's the mini map in the corner
He doesn't need a clutch because the transmission is a dog box NOT because it has straight cut gears like so many people seem to think
The straight cut gears has everything to do with why the use of the clutch is limited on a NASCAR transmission.
@@jakem749 nope it's the dog engagement you can clutchless shift helical gears just fine this is a common misconception in the Nascar community
Almost as good as Walter Rohrl's footwork vids.
Ford needs another logo on the steering rack for those right turns. I can’t tell what brand it is otherwise.
Nice shot while pitting Never seen that before. And Kevin using the heel- toe, nice.
I didn't see any heel-toe, unless you're talking about when he was on the brake and clutch during the pit stop. Their transmission allows them to two-foot it all day.
Dont know why sim racers always say you need a super stiff pedal, or that race cars have them. F1 yes...but you can clearly see this pedal isnt rock solid and has quite a bit of throw, gt3 are the same
Why he gotta do Mcdowell like that though
Not a nascar fan but that is pretty cool
You should consider in getting into it
As much i don't like ford divers i have a lot of respect for Kevin harvieck because the situation he stepped in after dales death
No heel and toe? Damn I miss Boris Said 😂
Hello there lol
Since those are straight cut gears you don’t need too, you just blip the throttle.
It's a dog box clutch is not needed when moving
@@shamyzero6349 to be more correct, its not because of the straight cut gears but because its got a dog box rather than normal synchros.
Yeah that PTG M3 sounds great too lol
Where's the clutch? Out of veiw? Clutchless shifting?
Straight cut/dog box, just need to match the revs. they use the clutch for starting the car etc and to pit
Awesome
Freaking McDowell got it done
He gave ole dude some Russ Wheeler action!!!lol
yup
Why is there an upper arm over his foot on the throttle pedal?
Incase of stuck throttle.
And people still say it’s not a sport
Nothing out of the ordinary, he's tapping the break before and at the apex to gain front grip, via weight transfer. Do it every day on Gran Turismo Sport.
So that is different from left foot braking?
Does he leave his pit in 2nd? I never hear him shift after leaving until after he rejoins the track. They usually set up their shift lights and RPMs for pit road speed for 2nd gear, that's why I ask.
First Gear
0:40 on the Indycar version?
Fancy feet? Well someone has been browsing 4chan too often.
He purposely spun that #34
for me it didnt
I WANT straight cut gears in my car lol
80-100 laps of this. Feet gotta be smoking at the end.
Reminds me of driving to work......Lol
I thought the clutch was on the left of the brake. No wonder they switch the gears so quick
Yeah
It is, but it's not needed except to launch the car from a stop. Once moving, the car can be shifted clutchlessly by rev-matching, as you see KH doing when he blips the throttle under braking.
New idea 💡. Homestead road course? 🤔🤷🏻♂️
Whats that upward pedal above his right foot? And what the hell, they brake with their left??
That pedal pulls the throttle closed in case it sticks open.
Most drivers brake with their left foot
No clutch ?
Yep
Where's the Clutch?
Surprised hes able to get on the gas that hard. How down on power are they from before? Isnt it sever hundred hp? Still have small tires by race car standards
37nezy they’ve been fitted with tapered spacers that dialed them back to about 550hp.
Why's he always on the brake even in a straight line?
He's hovering over it for easier access, they don't have to use the clutch so it's convenient.
Footwork............watch Senna
Get in it sooner Kevin
Miss the traditional clutches..
XD I mean it's one more thing the driver doesn't really need to worry about for now
I could do that!
It's harder than it looks.
I love shifting with no clutch
Me too
What's the extra bar over the top of his foot for?
Joel Smith lol no it's for if the throttle gets stuck down on full pressure, the upper bar is used to pull it back up with toes so you don't go flying into the wall
Omega Gamer the oh fuck pedal
@@omegagamer8589 ahh ok. Common problem in nascar? Haven't seen it on other series' before
So I've been doing it right I thought cause am doing what kevin Harvick does it was wrong. I was thinking no body doesthat
NASCARS Fancy feet is normal racecar driving in any road series.
Where can i buy a clutchless 4 speed for an ls1?
There is a clutch.
It’s how the gears are cut that allows them to shift without using the clutch. I believe they are straight cut gears. Clutch is only used when starting and stopping
gpmike02
You can do the same thing in your street car.
@@jakem749 thx
@@gpmike02 thx, but how exaclty do you use it when stoping as compared to a regular manual?
It's so tough. Changing gears without clutch, not only upshifting but also downshifting. Wow, and they still don't like it.
Do it all day driving tractor trailers.
A lot of drivers like road courses, and I've never heard a driver say they didn't like shifting. I have no idea what you are talking about.
@@truckerk different kind of transmission this is a dog box
@@truckerk idk if those transmissions are synchronized but if they are floating gears damages the synchros
Do I hear straight cut gears? Also, that clutch pedal placement is ingenious.
Edit: That's not the clutch pedal, it's the shift pedal.
What? There is a clutch pedal
@@jakem749 He doesn't use it.
Donovan Hale
Right, he only needs it to stop and go.
The shift pedal? Mate if you are talking about the thing above his foot that's just a brace to move the throttle back faster to be able to cut the throttle quicker.
@@5tig_ nice thanks. I noticed that thing above the pedal too and wondered what it was there for (didn't think it was for shifting though)
SHR seems to be struggling lately. Unfortunately Toyota is cleaning everyone’s clock!
3 of the top 4 in points are Fords.

I was referring to wins! Especially lately.
At the super speedways, the foot cam would be boring. Foot to the floor the whole way

Its not foot work its more like foot feel.
Spun the #34. That’s messed up. He would never make it in touring cars or V8 Supercars.
Because everyone cries when you make slight contact. Contact is part of this sport. You dont win if you don't do a little bit of rubbin'. Those drivers wouldn't make it here because they'd drive too cautious and get mad when they get bumped by faster cars.
@@troyandrade615 tell that to Ambrose lol
@@joshuaunitt3009 And how successful was Ambrose here in NASCAR?
Ambrose was not good at all in nascar, neither was montoya. Lmao
No mo clutch huh??
No They stopped using it a long time ago
Is that because it’s a dog box?
Now I wonder if NASCAR will use...... gulp.. Clutchless sequential.... distressed sigh.....
Who cares about that
if nascar switches to sequential gearbox, i'll be beyond livid. at that point we'd be American V8 Supercar Series
@@SimRacer2001 You'd only notice on road courses and the current gear boxes shift pretty quickly anyways. Probably won't notice a difference from a spectators standpoint.
@@Slim2491 I don't really care for shift speed or spectator standpoint. For me, part of the reason to why I enjoy nascar is the fact they still use a full manual transmission. Motorsports like indycar, f1, and imsa use sequential gearboxes and sort of takes the skill out of shifting with autoblips. nascar is the only motorsport (that I can think of right off the top of my head) that requires a bit more skill. You can still money shift a car (Dale Jr at pocono) or completely screw up a downshift with a bad blip. You don't see stuff like that in other forms of racing, and (imo) the only thing left that keeps nascar different from other forms of racing... other than the obvious oval racing
And the can has been opened...
No need for a clutch pedal if you know how to shift. Just use it to take of and stop. No wonder you can't get a standard shift anymore. Ya'll don't know how to drive a stick.
Lol, it's the transmission
It's a dog box you definitely shouldn't do this in a car with a transmission that is not meant to be shifted clutchless
You can do this in a normal car but your damaging the synchronizers
The turn at 1:23 he coulda for sure powered outta that alot more than he did and really start to apply pressure to the car ahead.
He was setting up for the next corner bud, this isnt a game
@@dibarel what about what I said implied that this was a game? All I said is he shoulda rode is ass a little bit more to catch that draft and slingshot faster to the car ahead. If you didn’t catch that bud then you’re dumb.
WOw
For the record I dont like street cars that u cant no clutch 🤷🏻♂️🤙 if I'm not stopped I dont need no stinking clutch. 🥴
Ayrton Senna for real footwork. You're welcome
What makes this not real? No thank you
Granny shifting not double clutching like he should.
Dom would be disappointed
Pshhh I can do this with 1 foot and a clutch pedal...
They have clutches but these guys are so good they don't have to use them
No heel toe = no fancy. Bring back the clutch work and let’s see how good these guys really are.
He's literally 1000000000x the driver you are.
It's all about getting faster, hence things like no clutch shifting, etc.
Nothing special here other than custom pedal design that would LITERALLY give ANYONE else in the world with a fucking face the ability to drive just like this.....
Add a clutch and now were talking
these cars are manual transmission how ever like a truck you only need it to get rolling, you could do that same in a regular street car but you would have to really know your car lol
@@zenonchlan1976 it's bad in a street car it damages the synchros idk if trucks have synchronized transmissions but if they do it's not good to float gears
There is a clutch. He used it during the pitstop.
@@lawfrmtheave Oh I see it now way off to the left, I was cut off the camera so I just assumed it wasn't there
It seems obvious that he doesnt feel comfortable racing this kind of track. Theres a few moments where he could've made easy moves. For example like @0:59 he decided to let off the gas, coast, hit the brake, hit the gas again then the break again GOING INTO A CORNER. if you can coast, hit break, hit gas, hit break again. You had a lot of breaking room to make a move on the inside.
What ever ediot.. LOL.. I'm sure you could do a lot better.. Stick to your video games...
@@twincammikev yes I could do better than what was showcased. Like why even show that "footwork" LOL everything about this video was mediocre at best. Seeing as how you're defending it shows that you are just as bad if not worse.
@@matteo5752
This isn't F1, Brake early, you can let off to make up for lost time. And if you looked at the right side of the screen, you'd notice that he outbraked almost everyone ahead. Not to mention that Harvick has consistently placed top 5 over the years at Sonoma. But what would that pleb know? He's only a NASCAR champion.
This isn’t f1 bud, maybe his car just wasn’t handling like he wanted it…
Kevin who? If you want to see fancy footwork watch Max Papis foot cam.
thyssenm Kevin who my ass, you just tried to be edgy with that

That's racing, Oval racing need less skill, even Rio Haryanto can win Daytona 500.
