    I want to thank you for this video. I am a covid 19 survivor. I was hospitalized for 90 days/62 of those days i was on a ventilator. Since being discharged, it has been a fight to recover. I have a paralyzed diaphragm (right side only), bronchiectasis, and lung scarring. My pft's are diminished. I went through pulmonary rehab, but it was just a graded exercise program. Breathing wasn’t even discussed. I am going to use your at home rehab series & see if it helps. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

      I’m so sorry that you’ve had to go through all of that. The exercise helps, but the combination of exercise, breathing exercises, and education on symptom control methods will give you your maximum benefit. I pray it helps!🫁💗

    I have never been a smoker. I got COVID June if ‘22 from traveling. I was actually worse than I thought I was. The resulting long COVID that I didn’t realize I had, ganged up withe last falls’s Omicron strain COVID vaccination booster. Exactly a week later I began having trouble breathing, mostly when I bent (sideways especially) or exerted myself. I nearly passed out several times. An ER trip sent me home with a big, stationary in-home oxygen concentrator, and a “portable” oxygen tank on a two wheeled caddy that was like pushing a vacuum cleaner everywhere I went A follow up with my primary, including a handheld, electronic “quick and dirty” pulmonary function test, and I learned that I have both obstructive _and_ restrictive breathing difficulty. She also said that since I have had sleep apnea for years, my O2 levels are even lower than is acceptable for most people. I was put in touch with a home health supplier that delivered smaller, still heavy O2 tank with an over the shoulder carry.
    My primary never referred me to a pulmonologist, and didn’t encourage even getting myself on a waiting list for a portable O2 concentrator, which she said was three months long.
    It wasn’t until I saw the pulmonologist at the sleep study practice, for a periodic re-evaluation, that there was any real testing to find out what was going on and possible cause. A full on, in the “phone booth” pulmonary function test, a SNIF (sp?) test, and ECG provided no real answers as to what was going on, which made a diagnosis difficult. The pulmonologist’s theory is exactly what I had been thinking: Long COVID plus booster + sleep apnea, plus slight immune issues (Hashimoto’s) equals problems breathing in and out.
    One of the great things about seeing the pulmonologist was that he wrote me a script for a portable concentrator, I drove two blocks to ROTECH, and walked out the door with said machine.
    The not so great is I live in a small city in a rural county, in the high desert/mountains of Arizona, which means, in addition to far lower oxygen levels, a lot fewer medical specialists and types of medical therapists. I would have to drive over 120 miles and drop down 3,000 ft to Phoenix to see a respiratory therapist. My pulmonologist, though wonderful about many things, just said to go on RUclips to find breathing therapy videos. How is a patient supposed to be able to tell good from bad therapy videos? IMO, he or a nurse at his office should have already found videos they recommend, and sent patients home with a list.
    (
    Thank goodness for my sister who is far more assertive than I am, recognized that I was getting short shrift, and even took the time to comb through RT videos to find your gem of a series.
    Your video is a Godsend! I already knew about breathing in through the nose, out through the mouth, and breathing from the abdomen, as I had learned a form of Yogic breathing for calming. I was doing that that breathing, but not as often as I probably should have, to kind of get by.
    Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. You are helping so many people.

    I have never smoked. I’m 75 now & just diagnosed with C Emphysema. I was diagnosed with asthma & COPD over 25 years ago. I was told I most likely was born with asthma. My mother also had asthma. All this time no one has taught me about breathing properly. However, I am a stomach breather due to I used to be a singer before I was diagnosed with permanent vocal cord damage.
    This latest diagnosis really has me upset. I do all I can to stay healthy. I’ve battled extremely serious gastreophares, celiac & Barrett’s for over 25 years as well. At one time I was homebound for 6 years, following doctor’s orders to a T & getting sicker every day. Using a walker & getting up to 276 lbs. a friend introduced me to gut health & literally saved my life & changed to course of my self guided health journey. I got down to 135lb within 18 months. I’m currently at 160 bc I have had multiple back surgeries & not been able to be as mobile as normal. That has definitely added to my inability to keep my weight controlled.
    However, I am absolutely shocked at this latest diagnosis of emphysema. Thank you for making these videos. I already do an hour of stretching in the morning & at night, plus swimming during the day when possible. I will add the breathing to my daily routine. Thank you thank you.

    Found out I had COPD a year ago, and got put on oxy. Did fine until I started getting pneumonia, was aspirated P., happened several times, then from that going to hosp. for couple weeks, then I had a replacement shoulder, and got pneum, again. (there is more times too) After being in hosp., found out I had a Hiatal hernia, then more pneum., then yesterday after going to pulmonary dr., found out my stomach is behind my heart.....and that isnt helping me breathe. I use a walker, so am so glad to have something I can do at home..!! Believe me, theres more, but this is enough! Oh, forgot, am going to turn 82 on the 20th, and cant go thru surgery for hernia and stomach because of oxy. levels...Sorry this is so long, but will watch and pray for help from you!

    I have IPF, and breathing deeply is not something i can do, especially through my nose. I can get more air inhaling through my mouth. I know that's incorrect, any suggestions? I also have a chronic cough with this that inhibits my breathing. February 22, 2024

    • @BreatheBetterwithElizabeth
      @BreatheBetterwithElizabeth  3 месяца назад

      Not everyone can physically breathe through their nose, especially if you suffer from allergies and/or sinusitis often. If you can get more air in through your mouth than that’s perfectly acceptable. The nose is beneficial because it acts as a filter and a built in humidifier, but if your anatomy doesn’t allow that, than do what feels more beneficial.

    My companion cannot breathe through her nose at all due to nasal polyps and having several surgeries for these that have failed. She was advised to use a flutter valve to break up and get out mucus as she also has bronchiechtasis . We saw your review of the flutter valves and saw that you must breathe in through your nose. The device was recommended by a nurse and a pulmonologist that know her condition yet neither explained much about it. Can she use a flutter valve if she cannot breathe nasally at all? Thanks

    • @BreatheBetterwithElizabeth
      @BreatheBetterwithElizabeth  Год назад

      Yes, it will still work! I always recommend breathing in through your nose because of the benefit of added moisture and warmth, but if you cannot breathe your nose at all, then it’s perfectly fine to breathe in through your mouth. I would not breathe in through the mouthpiece though as it could mess with one way valves. So, breathe in, then put your mouth on the mouthpiece to blow out.

  • @Straightdeal

    I thought breathing in AND out through the nose was the way to go, due to the NO effect. NO created in the sinus cavities, so exhaling through nose makes sense to me.

    • @BreatheBetterwithElizabeth
      @BreatheBetterwithElizabeth  29 дней назад +1

      Nope, exhaling through your mouth gets rid of more CO2 and reduces air hunger for those who suffer from breathing problems.
