I'm no canucks fan, but I will say this much: the way these two played in their prime years ago was really artistic and creative, and the story of a general manager going through hell to be able to draft them together is something unique that we will likely never see again in sports history (not just due to the rarity of identical twins but also the fact that super valuable top 3 draft picks don't get dealt like that anymore). I still remember the 2011 playoffs like it was yesterday and it feels very nostalgic and bittersweet to see the rise and fall of a couple art ross winners. I really did not expect them to hang up their skates until next season at the earliest... nevertheless, it sounds like their passion for the game has finally faded and they are content with passing the torch forward. I just can't help but feel that, had the canucks not been a terrible team for the past few years, they might've had some gas left in the tank for another couple playoff runs to try to win the elusive dream. I guess Iginla isn't the only former superstar retiring this year without a cup.
4:17 is the whole reason I pity the Sedins. I was born and grew up in Vancouver and love the Sedins through and through... What I pity the most is how Vancouver as a city would turn against them if they went a couple games without goals, or at the end of every single season/playoffs. It made me not want to talk about hockey to other people in Vancouver because they were always so negative. I feel bad for how they are practically the sole punching bag of the Canucks for so many other cities. People hate Marchand because he's a dirty player. Fine, that makes sense. But why do people hate the Sedins? Because they are amazing at the game and don't slash back or throw blind side hits? There are so many hockey greats in history that are loved by everyone in every city who weren't half of the human beings the Sedins are. Vancouver as a city didn't deserve them in my opinion, and I feel honoured that I got the chance to meet them on several occasions and talk to them (I worked at Blenz and Starbucks for a few years in Kits and never missed the chance to talk to them! xD). Really genuinely nice people. I hope that is recognized more once they are gone.
Before Winnipeg got the Jets back the Canucks were my favourite team. I'm sad to see them go without winning a cup, but at the same time I'm glad they're retiring in Vancouver. They've done so much for their city and so much for the organization. I'll definitely be watching to see their last home game.
peter zebot Doesn’t matter. 1000 points in the NHL is phenomenal. They’re the only brothers in the NHL to both have 1000 points. They had a good run, can’t you just be happy for them?
I'm just impressed with the Canucks GM (and staff) who were able to do some crazy trades / positioning in the draft to select the twins in back-to-back picks at once.
I don't see why they need to bring up the toughness aspect at all or even try to characterize toughness in that way when it's fairly clear what the most predominant definition of toughness is. All players have their own strengths and weaknesses and we may never see the strengths these two put on display together ever again. We should celebrate and appreciate these two for that as we say thank you and goodbye to some of the best skill the game has ever seen.
they will always be 2 of my favorite canucks, hated the hate towards them and defend their tenacity and honesty and talent for the game and we were blessed to have them for so long
Never understood how they were supposed to be soft. They missed 86 regular season games combined. That's pretty impressive for playing across 18 years.
Both the Sedins put up with crap: media ridiculed, second guessed their entire career. Many times non calls and the events would take place right in front of the Zebras (broken ribs, broken fingers, sticks caught between their heads and helms (the tape doesn't lie)). They kept coming, they played harder, left the Zebra's alone and kept coming. Talented players, classy people, proven community leaders. MVP'S and other coveted NHL awards, scoring championships, NHL President Trophy winners (x2), multiple World Cup championships, and an Olympic Gold medal. Future walk-in first ballot Hall-of-Fame award, numbers to be retired by team. Stanley Cup tournament? What's that?! (POINT)
Seriously? I pity the guys who made hateful comments here. Later in life, if you look back at what you wrote, can you even imagine how regretful you will be? All players, no matter how great they were, cannot possibly be perfect, Gretzky included. It’s disgusting how much certain people would get just to prove a point. The Sedins’ numbers are not only top notch within Canucks history, but the entire NHL time line. They worked hard for the respect and love they are receiving, that alone deserves you to hide your hateful comments. It was understandable when they were still playing, rival teams’ fans are not going to be supportive of them, but the two are retired! Instead of spending three minutes writing your stupid comments, why don’t you utilize that time instead to search up what the Sedins have done for their community? Trust me it will make you want to slap yourself in the face. These players are human, not worthless merchandises for you to criticize and ridicule over. I hope this got to u.
peter zebot Actually, look at their numbers even back then, they wern't that horrible. And it's not like it was only in the beginning of their careers they was ridiculed. they still are for some reason. When Canucks lost the final in 2011 and the fans nearly teared down the whole godamn city, riots, police cars burning, smashing windows. the mob mentality that went on then. they had to have police protection at their homes. It''s insane. I like the Canucks. But sometimes i wonder if they might have the worst fans.
I don't think real Canucks fans are the worst, those people tearing up the city were the bandwagon "fans" and there most likely would have still been a riot even if they had won.
You don't understand I think. They did everything together. We drafted them together. They played together since amateur hockey. Taking one away from the other is just unheard of. Whether it was Vancouver or some other team that drafted them together, no coach in their right minds would put them on separate lines. They started together. They end together. It's a Canucks thing.
Shadownet retiring is their own personal choice. They both decided to retire together? They just must be so close to agree to retire at the same time. Some bond.
Deceived Society They're both great individually but they are spectacular together. It would be weird if one retires and the other decided to keep playing
Unbelievably selfish comment bring attention to themselves when we are here celebrating their careers. We aren't even celebrating the fact the Canucks were so good for so long with the two of them. Shame!
Solid players but I don't think Hall of Fame players. They were both combined - 30 in the playoffs great regular-season numbers just average playoff producers
*TOUGH* ??????????????? that downright insults my intelligence..The Twin Sisters who lived and slept and had to be everywhere together *let's not mince words or beat around the bush* were as intimidating and tough as Richard Simmons..Paying these guy's almost 200 million over an 18 yr period resulted in *Zilch* when it came to playoff time..the return on the investment didn't add up to the salary.. And they retired??? Ya,like 4 years ago..
You’re a joke. What in the world does a keyboard warrior like you know about toughness or character. They’ve accomplished way more than that tiny mind of yours can ever comprehend.
We will never see something like this for a long time, if not ever again. I don't care what you think, you have to respect that they made it last .
We re so lucky to have pettersson
Both hall of famers! They just had pure magic playing with each other!
There better be a 30 for 30 film on the Sedins.
This deserves 1000 likes

Glad someone else noticed...

A damn shame they never got to win a Stanley cup.
Roman Bellic they could have easily won it if the team stayed healthy
NAs89 nah lol
nice
they were trash af
Too bad they just weren’t good enough. Go Bruins
They both have 50 points this season! Still very good effective players
Absolute legends of the game of hockey

peter zebot how many points do you have?...... yeah, just what I thought.....

Thanks Sedin Twins!!!
they will always be 2 of my favorite canucks, hated the hate towards them and defend their tenacity and honesty and talent for the game and we were blessed to have them for so long
I'm not even a fan of Canucks but this still makes me kinda sad

If there is any question about the class of these guys. www.theplayerstribune.com/en-us/articles/daniel-and-henrik-sedin-dear-vancouver

Fkn Brett Gretzky had to give his brother another record
Seeing them drafted seems like yesterday. Seeing Trevor Linden drafted seems like last week. I feel old.
Don't really know much about them - were they actually ridiculed a lot when starting out? I always thought people liked them.
Eric people still to this day call them "weak" and "sedin sisters" "2 girls no cup".. very disrecspectful.

Again, how do you tell that the Sedin on the right is Henrik?
A new era
I get theyre twins but both retire same time?

That's the understatement of the century.
Deceived Society They're both great individually but they are spectacular together. It would be weird if one retires and the other decided to keep playing
they have played on the same lines their whole lives...
Is Hendrix the dean and Daniel city I'm retiring or leaving my contacts😰😰😰
GO CANUCKS GO
henrik should play 10 more games to hit 1337 games played lol
lmao
I'm so happy I'm a Canucks fan. Goodbye...
Matthew Barnaby Matthews > Sedin Sisters
Zach Wabason you're trash. Mrs Austonie Matthews can only wish she can live up to even half of the greatness of the Sedin brothers.
They will probably have a year off, then regret not having another crack at the cup on a contending team. usual story
Michael Cronin Vancouver aren't contending next year.
What a waste of talent on a mediocre to bottom feeder team. Inagine if these guys were in LA or even Detroit....dam shame
What a stupid comment
Unbelievably selfish comment bring attention to themselves when we are here celebrating their careers. We aren't even celebrating the fact the Canucks were so good for so long with the two of them. Shame!
Solid players but I don't think Hall of Fame players. They were both combined - 30 in the playoffs great regular-season numbers just average playoff producers
yowza yowza i would like to point out that if they didn't score, no one else on the canucks would. Thats more of a team problem than a Sedin problem
yowza yowza without these 2 , Van would of never, ever made the playoffs.
so is that all that matters ? their ratings in playoffs is all that matters to be considered a hall of famer ?
Daniel and Henrik were 2nd and 3rd in playoff points in 2011 so in their prime, they definitely were playoff producers.
yowza yowza +/- is the most flawed stat in hockey.
You must be fun at parties...
Uh, reading this hurts my IQ.
The Sedins were the primary reason the Canucks made it to the Stanley Cup final, you don’t know what you’re talking about do you?
You’re a joke. What in the world does a keyboard warrior like you know about toughness or character. They’ve accomplished way more than that tiny mind of yours can ever comprehend.
*Zero Cups*
2 girls no cup
Max Hill 🖕you must be insecure to make a stupid ass statement like that. Those two were/are tougher than you ever hope to be with n two lifetimes.
