Paul was an incredible singer. In this day and age he never would have had a chance to develop in the Beatles. . . he would have been plucked out of there immediately and marketed as a solo artist.

Probably my fave of theirs with Pete Best. And those background harmonies are awesome

Paul’s vocals are great here but I’m also constantly amazed at Lennon’s harmonized singing, his backup vocals are otherworldly 0:48 “this joy is something new, my arms are holding you” “who’d ever thought that I’d be holding you” - there’s deep happiness and sadness echoed in his voice. Love it, feeds the soul

the fact that they used the june 1962 EMI studios version instead of this one from the actual decca audition in january, THE SUPERIOR VERSION, is gonna make me salty about anthology 1 for the rest of my life

Frankly this was better than their club performances. They perfected the frantic beat with this session and never returned to these energy levels in their subsequent work. Their biggest mistake was losing Pete Best.

look at it from a different angle, if they gave this version to anthology 1, they would never release the emi version

I feel like the EMI version is like the default version an this one is like a live performance

My God. Decca Records lost the best band in the world. But they found Sir George Martin and Ringo. The rest, as they do say, is history

But it is good they turned them down because if they didnt turn them down then there is not Ringo and George Martin wouldn't be the producer. They probably be that famous if they were accepted.

What a relentlessly driving bass line this has. These guys could take any song and make it their own.
