At @16:32 the Model X driver shows the perfect example for how easy it is to start charging with Teslas Superchargers. That‘s how it should work everywhere, and that’s why Tesla is still much ahead. They are thinking emobility in a holistic manner and not only as an 1 by 1 substitution of fossils.

@@MiesvanderLippe One day (2030s?), charging will be everywhere and will be commoditised like filling stations are today. At that point, there will no longer be a strategic advantage in owning your own charging network. It won't make any more sense for Tesla to own superchargers than it would for Mercedes to own diesel filling stations today. Until then, there is a huge advantage in having the most convenient charging, and Tesla knows it. It sells a lot of cars!

From 40 to 480 kW total power. A 40kW module can be split between to charging vehicle. In other word, charging can be load balanced in 20kW steps.
In Norway you pay for power usage in addition to energy. This makes it very expensive for operators the have a large amount of stalls at location that only get weekend rush traffic.
Shared power usage solves this, you can have a lot of stalls without the high peak power usage.

I drove around Norway this summer with my e-tron with a trailer totaling 500kg (full of tent, sleeping bags, inflatable stuff for the kids etc).. Experienced 26,4 kwh/100km on average after approx 2000km. Just checked my total for all the charging and it ended up at 1228 NOK. I ended up using the E-tron charging service (Ionity and BKK/Lyse), Smartcharge (bø Camping), Fortum and Grønn kontakt (at one charger it would not accept the e-tron card). BKK ended up being the cheapest charge and even though It was supposed to cost 2,50 NOK/kWh i did manage to charge at Liertoppen BKK for 1,39 NOK/kWh. End result being: 30 min, 56 kWh, 75 NOK.
The tour of norway was; Stavanger, Bergen, Voss, Valdres, Hønefoss, Fredrikstad, Hønefoss, Bø, Dalen, back to Stavanger, plus lots of other short drives in the 3 weeks we were on the move.
There are a few things to note. Thankfully the E-tron charges on the font side. So it is possible to charge the car without taking of the trailer. On one place, Valle, it got kinda weird, but the car did fit and it did not block anyone else using the neighboring chargers. One thing to mention is the lack of roof over electric chargers. Why the F does petrol car owners get a roof over to stop the rain but EV drivers do not? Okey, enough about that. i do own a "allværsjakke" so screw em.

I am in awe how charging has become such a competitive market there. Soon it will be the same in US outside of California. Finally the state government is helping more. Before it was only some federal grant money to help and if utilities wanted to take initiative to have new chargers installed. There are lots of AC chargers being built in the city. These Kempower pedestals look a lot like chargepoint AC chargers on size. More chargers are getting smart on the cables. Dealing with a coil of big fat cables sucks. I have yet to find a DCFC without an app here with charge info.

  • @MichaelEricMenk
    @MichaelEricMenk 4 года назад +4

    Power cost example:
The grid operator charges a fee per month , for power and energy used.
The power part for Hafslund charges in winter (Des-Feb) is 150NOK/kW + 0.07NOK/kWh.
Lets look at the cost of a "standard" charging station that is used max power. (assume 100% efficiency )
    2x 50kW DC + 2x 22kW AC = 144kW
    The power charge per month is 144kW * 150NOK/kW = 21600NOK (=2 036€ or $2357)
The cost is the same if the location uses 144kW for one hour a month, or 144kW constant for one month.
The problem is that this cost have to be spread out on the months charging session.
So, adding a 150kW charingstation in addition to handle weekend traffic cost 22500NOK/month in additional cost. In addition the charing operator may have to pay for a new transformer, just to handle weekend traffic.
Load balancing solves a lot of this problem, especially on location with only weekend traffic.

Ionity typically has a 1,25MW transformer for 6 chargers. So they can not provide 350 kW to all 6 stalls. At Dal they probably have a 2,5MW (as you said), because it is prepared for 12 stalls.
The Circle K Abb chargers seems to have a failed cooling unit, so it only delivers 30 kW.
The Kempower chargers seem nice and a very good solution, I like them.

Norway electric car drivers are so lucky with the great charging network, here in the UK its a joke! (Unless you have a Tesla) Owned a Tesla Model S which was super easy to live with, but now I have a Jaguar I Pace First Edition - great car but it’s just to difficult to get consistent charging in the UK, it’s dreadful at best, especially when doing distance traveling- hence why I am going back to a petrol car.

Model S getting very old and I just don’t like the the look of the Model 3 (Although I know it’s a great car) test drove a Porsche Taycan - Superb electric car, but again the charging network in the UK is just not good enough. It took me 7.5 hours (13 hours there and back) to do a journey last week, because of the terrible charging network, 7 out of the 8, 50kW charges were not working!! The same journey in a petrol car would have only took 3 hours (6 hours round trip) It’s not the Jaguar’s fault, it’s the UK charging network!!

@@atlantikav5902 The good news is that the government seems to be getting serious about investing in high power charging. They want to have 6-12 150-350kW chargers at motorway services by 2023 (although the original announcement said "all MSAs", but now the word "all" has been removed!), and are providing financing for connection costs etc via a £400m investment fund. www.gov.uk/government/publications/government-vision-for-the-rapid-chargepoint-network-in-england/government-vision-for-the-rapid-chargepoint-network-in-england

I like those long cable Kempower chargers, I've got a right hand drive i3, for the UK, but the charging port is on the drivers side for left hand drive countries, so in order to get the cable to reach on road side chargers, I have to park the wrong way round which is a real pain when you have to drive across a busy road in the wrong direction. These chargers would solve that problem.

I love the idea of sharing the juice. What I don't like is the charge per minute. If I park and start a charge and I pay per minute (which you do at some places) you don't really want the charge kw to be lower, because that means you're going to pay more for the same. Or do I have this all wrong?
