My car didn't start one day, since then I replaced battery, starter, and now Im doing the alternator. Im not so experienced, but I was born with godlike abilities to do anything possible. Im hoping replacing the alternator works.

Oh they can take forever to die... but you never teally know. I just replaced mine, 2012 VW Jetta with nearly 202k miles. Alternator had been showing signs for nearly 50k. Only reason I replaced it was the pulley was getting wobbly.

Great info. My car turn off on me 1 block away from home. Luckily it was Sunday morning 7am and no traffic. I was able to start it again and the grinding sound was emitting from the alternator. Hope it makes it to the mechanic on Wednesday.

Thank you for the video I've been hearing a grinding / squealing noise in my Chevy pickup and my truck is a at 170000 miles. Boiled it down to either the power steering pump or the alternator but now I'm confident it's the alternator because my power steering pump appears to be a newer

Same thing with me. Slow crank and thought it was the battery but had battery tested, alternator and starter all was good . I’m leaning towards my serpentine belt now

Thanks! My symptoms are grinding noises, especially in winter for a few minutes, headlights flickering, clock backlight (PT Cruiser) brightens and dims with reving. This helped me save a boat load of money from the local vulture car shops trying to rip me off.

Yeah I have a 2006 mustang....im a girly girl and 5 years ago I was quoted $643 for my alternator......thanks to youtube and the statement the dude said "it'll take about 30mins"....ive been doing most of my car issues thanks to youtubers like this guy. I'm not afraid to break a nail.

the alternator is like the sneakiest part of the car that you would never expect lol...i always thought it was something so catastrophic but usually turned out to be a simple fix with my alternator
Lol , recently purchased a new edge mustang previous owner said Possible blown head gaskets a little bit of white smoke came out the tail pipe , everytime you wanted to start it you had to jump start , when i checked it out i took out the dipstick there wasn't any coolant mixed so i bought it , it was running lean thus puffing smoke out the back and kept stalling , all it needed was a battery / alternator , paid 1,100 for a perfectly running car

Mine is the s enerio where I was headed to the grocery store lol. But instead of battery light. It was the Engine light that came on. It stalls out randomly too. Able to turn it back on but still scary to drive it anywhere.

this video helped me cause l have the third problem with my suv , while l was driving the headlights immeadituly stoped working than after few seconds whent l hit the throttle hard it worked but again another day the same problem than l figured out that something is not working properly, and the problem is l think the alternator. One main way you can check if your alternator is bad is by turning your car on and unplugging one of your battery terminals, if the car shuts off then your alternator is crap

Thanks mate. Having issues on a 2014 VW golf. Have to keep jumping it & it would be fine. Even while running a big stereo. For a while there it would keep starting the next day or each time I went to start the car. Now it’s totally dead but the battery reads about 12.6 Volts with car on with a quick test with a multimeter. So now I’m not so sure it’s the battery. I know how it happened. Car was left on to long one cold night when locked out of the house.

I have a 1L Ecoboost Focus..Would 1 single DRL slightly flickering be a symptom? I also notice when you press the push button start, it feels as if the engine struggles for a second to start
Got a 2006 Toyota corolla. Car headlights are very dim (almost dark), however my high beams are fine. AC / heat controls knows area as well are almost completely dark as well, however the cars dashboard lights are fine. The windshield wipers are very slow / weak. Battery warning signal flashed randomly, but noticeablely when I would break or use indicator (as I assume this draws more power).

Making it to the store on a Sunday morning. I was on my way to work and got on the freeway and it stopped. I waited and prayed and it cranked up.
I wouldn't advise buying a remanufactured one from the auto parts stores. It's a bit more of a hassle but lookup the ProAmp brand online. It comes from a local shop here in Arizona. They are US made. Our work trucks would burn through the remans sometimes only lasting a week at a time. The ProAmp is about as solid as the OEM though... for a lot less cash.

What if my headlights and interior lights are flickering but no warning lights and it stops after awhile
I drive a 93 Chevy 1500, it’s not giving me that many signs other than the battery lvl is 2 bars away from where it’s supposed to be. Also if I turn on my blinkers the voltage meter will go back and forth a little in the rhythm of the blinkers. I’m going to replace the alternator just because the truck was sitting before I got it and maybe also change the pulleys

I'm having the headlight issue. I put a set of Sylvania silverstar headlight bulbs in my 98 mustang and they dont seem any brighter than the stock ones. My battery gauge still reads ok though. Should I have the alternator checked?

I may be wrong, but it seems to me that older cars gradually died due to bad alternators.
These days, it all seems to happen at once. I don't know if that's good or bad; meaning newer cars may be able to stave off the symptoms longer; while with older cars you can kinda regnonize the problem earlier. That way it just doesn't suddenly die on you and leave you stranded. I dunno. Just my experience. Could just be totally random.

@beast boy was the alternator?..man that happened to me a few days ago..I was at a red light..all the lights on my dash came on I quickly pulled into walmart parking lot..and had enough juice to park it..steering wheel locked on me...mine issue was the alternator.. I have a 2010 gs 350 over 100,000 miles
Always watch voltage and try to keep engine RPMs up if the voltage gets low. This can almost always avoid being left on the side of the road.
No lie, I did this with my Honda civic lol country roads 70-80 mph lmfao as soon as I got off the exit sputtered and died lol made it about 30 miles
@@jeffreygodinez162 I haven't had an alternator fail on me yet. Which surprises me. As I run subs in a few of my vehicles. Including one I sold.
I do believe the one in my Town Car is showing signs of wear. Seams to not like holding voltage sometimes. But it's rare when it acts up. That car has a huge battery. I try to run a size bigger battery in everything so I can run the stereo in accessory without wasting fuel. And, usually the CCAs are higher. Maybe the beefier batteries help ease the wear?
Or I'm just lucky.

If mine does fail, I'm going to upgrade to the P71 alternator on my Town Car. Twice the amperage. Should bolt right in too.
3 alternators is a lot to go through. Crazy.

There’s only a couple of wear parts. Just go to a local rebuilder and get a decent quality or buy the ‘better’ at a parts store.
What if the car won’t start at all being jumped off or not? Like the lights come on and work like the radio and stuff but when you turn it from acc to on it goes dim and everything cuts off and when you jump it , it still won’t try to crank ? I got the battery tested it had more juice than needed bc of trying to jump it and the terminals are clean and all. Lights come on and stuff works fine in acc but when on its dims and when you try to crank won’t even try to roll over or crank.
If you have grinding/ high pitch noise when in 1st 2nd gear, and battery light comes up. it's alternator.
I have my car in shop and they think its alternator. Car is much louder, squeals and rattles in the winter and especially in lower gears. Certain windows suck at opening. Sounds go away or quieter after car heats up after 30mins-1 hour
No battery light just terrible noise. Praying this shop can fix it. Ive been to another place and they couldnt figure it out.

When the alternator went out on my last vehicle, I first noticed because the radio shut off. After that, pressing the accelerator harder made my car slow down and flipping anything on that draws electricity caused a noticeable drop in engine power. I was barely able to drop someone off at their house before it died. Bottom of their hill, hit the brake and my car cut out. I had to have someone bring an extra battery to me and I drove home with only my parking lights on and I used my handbrake to brake so my car didn't die again before I got home (I was literally on the other side of the city) For whatever reason, the battery light never really came on when the alternator failed and it happened multiple times. Never figured out why it kept killing alternators
99’ crv. While in idle or at 2,400-2,700rpm I hear a whine/chirp. Not quite like a power steering whine. Best way I can describe it is that it’s very similar to a turbo spool up and blow off from a Ford super duty. Sometimes I’ll start up the car and it’ll immediately die only for me to have to start it again and then it stays on 😆. Under the hood when it’s idling it’s very quiet so I can’t really pin point it, it’s loudest between those two rpm ranges and pretty much only audible at those ranges.
My big way of checking, is to put a voltage meter on the alternator..if it's not charging, it's bad..worked for me for over 40 years now...plus the tundra I'm working on now has 250,000 miles, original alternator,2001
I hear a whistle from the alternator and codes P0507. I seen 13v-14v while it’s on no matter the rpms and 12v when it’s turned off. What are my chances? Sometimes i get a dead battery if i don’t run my car for longer than a week and it’s a new battery as well. Just a year old

I think power steering fluid leaked onto my alternator . It’s pretty grimey and smokes and battery symbol comes on as i come out and reverse my car . Now this dosent happen all the time more like once in a blue moon . Do you think power steering fluid on alternator caused the quick smoking
What about a car that starts up with delay? Sometimes it happens sometimes not. It's like for the first few seconds of turning the ignition, it didn't get much power, but then it does.
That’s what my bmw started doing. I took it to the shop and they told me I had to replace the alternator, belt and battery. After seeing this video I think it might just be the belt ? Let me know if you were able to fix it I would like to know! Thanks 😊
@@tokiofanerika10 I've replaced the battery with a quality one and the car has not been doing the above-mentioned issue that much. But I am going to let the mechanic check the other stuff to figure out exactly what's going on ;)
Is it possible to just have bad belts and or pulleys and the alternator still be fine?
I noticed kind of like a grinding sound at first when starting my car cold. It had a little trouble starting. But after a couple of tries it would start. Been like this a couple of days now. Today when I started it this morning it took longer to turn on and I could hear a whiney noise, like power steering fluid was out. Could this be the alternator? I haven't seen any of the other symptoms like flickering lights or trouble with windows. 07 accord 2.4
Check your belt. Look for cracks & it shouldn’t be loose. Check that first b4 spending 150 - 250 on a alternator
