Thanks. My channel is sort of a variety channel for all my hobbies, not just restoration stuff. My channel goes back to January 2006 and I have been making videos (well some are 8mm films) since the late 80's.
Fantastic job! There is no way to measure how special this will be to your son, and I can tell you from experience this will be a car that was handed down to your son, will more than likely in time be handed back down to you for safe keeping, and may in time be handed down to his son. All that magic from a Hotwheel. Go figure.
I really love this project especially as the car started of as yours and then handed down to your son. I think that it deserves to be showcased now and not played with as it's become a good talking point.
Beautiful restoration!!! I think it would've been awesome if you had your own wrecker service logo on it!! I happen to know that when the Ramblin' Wrecker first appeared in 1975, it had Larry Wood's home phone number on the sides! This was supposed to be a joke, but it was accidentally left on the truck when it entered production. Much later, Wood's phone number got heavily bombarded by hundreds of calls from kids and adults alike!! As a result, later issues had the phone number removed.
I LOVED THIS TRUCK SINCE THE DAY I TRADED THREE OTHER CARS FOR THIS ONE BACK IN THE SUMMER OF 1978. YOU DID AN AMAZING JOB AND I HAVE THREE OF THESE IN DIFFERENT STAGES FROM NEAR MINT TO JUST LIKE THE THAT YOU DID WITH ALMOST THE SAME KIND OF DAMAGE. THE ONLY THING THAT I WOULD DONE DIFFERENT FROM YOUR IS CHANGE THE RIMS AND TIRES TO A DEEP DISH MAG RIMS AND REAL RIDERS. PLEASE THINK OF DOING ANOTHER CUSTOM WITH THOSE IDEAS. YOU ROCK BRO
My 1st Hot Wheels customization was a Nomad (my favorite hot wheels casting still) which I (crudely) painted metal flake green sometime in the late 60's. Every once in a while I think I want to recreate that just for the nostalgia factor.
Thanks for watching! And thanks for the comment. I always loved this model. I would like to find a decent shape original someday. I have other toy restorations as well as some motorcycle restorations on my channel that you might like.
Good job, the only little thing I would have done differently is I would have used tape to paint the white over the blue for a better line. But I love the way you painted tools behind. (excuse my silly ENG)
My brother had a truck like that when I was growing up it was white with red side strip then when I was 15 my first vehicle was a similar truck white with a flatbed on the back
I liked the look but I would have airbrushed the inlay ed paint rather than paint with a brush, the paint is uneven and distracts from the detail you added
I hope to get to that one soon. I did another diorama type thing a while back. I live streamed the entire build and have pictures up here. www.thejunkmanadv.com/the-junk-mans-blog/datsun-620-diorama
Cool custom you made. I think if you had used Tamiya masking tape to tape of the side panels and then airbrushed the white on it it would have looked much better
I was out of my fineline masking tape or that is what I would habe done. This was to play with so it's going to get scratched up pretty quickly so I made some compromises.
way better, but your hand brushing skills are going to need work, as you know. If you had that idea right off you could have masked and painted in the white with the air brush. Did real nice on the bed, what happened that made you shake when you were doing the lines on the side or the white?
I ran out of fineline masking tape or i would have airbrushed the white as well. With the marker i was just jittery. This is my first time doing a hot wheels check out my website I have some extreme weathering models that show off better work. www.thejunkmanadv.com/the-junk-mans-blog/under-glass-kenworth-w900-116th-scale-model
I should have mentioned this in the video, but didn't think anything of it. You know RUclips though, that one thing will be what people latch onto. LOL. Thanks for watching. I have more in the pipeline when I get time to finish editing them.
I explained that in the video. This is more of a service truck now. I may add a metal a-frame at some point but that would be a little dangerous right now.
Could only watch first minute of this - loud 1980's soft porn soundtrack background music soooo distracting and if turn volume down then miss narration.
Well that is like all of RUclips. These videos do better over time in search. Check out my channel I have several videos over 1 million views and most of my motorcycle how to videos get 1,000's of views a day, but not from subscribers.
Fair enough opinion, but it seems you might be in the minority. Its going to be played with and I like it so that is really all that matters. If it inspires others that is what its all about. I'd love to see your work.
Turned out awesome!
Thanks! You and BareMetalHW were an inspiration
@@thejunkman Well don't be surprised if I end up with a Tonka truck on my channel. :)
I'll be waiting. I need to get working on this Nylint front end loader I picked up for $5.
@@thejunkman Nice!

I really like the details you added. It's so awesome that this is your childhood toy which you are now sharing with your son.
Check my channel. I have a bunch more like this that span 2 generations.
Great looking truck. My dad loved old trucks.
I really love this project especially as the car started of as yours and then handed down to your son. I think that it deserves to be showcased now and not played with as it's become a good talking point.
Theres nothing like taking a beat up old toy and restoring it. Great job!
Thanks!
That turned out awesome!!! Love the color scheme too
I'm getting my oldest son into restoring some of my old hotwheels.
Nice! Well this is my first crack at hot wheels

Looks like a hard working man's truck 👍👍👍
Everyone is welcome to join our custom contest. Check out our channel for more information😉
Explain?
thejunkman you can watch our latest video for more information😉
You are a good dad.
Beautiful model custom thumbs up
Nice work. I like the colors. Maybe I would've added a chrome trim around the white paint using that liquid pen.
I may experiment with that in the future after this one gets scratched all up from play. Sub and ring the bell so you don't miss it.
Awesome job.
Congratulations from Rio de Janeiro!
great paint job!!
I love your restauration, Nice result she is beautiful👌✌️
Thanks

Looking good! Need more of these
Well I might do some more. Did you watch until the end of the video?
I sure did would love to see what you do with them cars
I think you did a fine job! Looks great!👍🏻
Omg this model is one off the red lines.. very famous towing truck.🤔🤔🤔🤔great job. To custom.
Thanks for watching! And thanks for the comment. I always loved this model. I would like to find a decent shape original someday. I have other toy restorations as well as some motorcycle restorations on my channel that you might like.
I don't think I would have done anything different other than change out the wheels it looks really cool
good job I like how you did the bed very detailed.
Very cool! Wasnt sure I'd like the powder blue but it looks great! Good job!
I remember Chevy C10-C30 being painted a similar color back in the day and thus why o thought I would do that color.
Yeah it looks great
well done looks great
Looks really good nice job
Be sure to check out my other restorations on my channel.
@@thejunkman sure will
Love my favorite truck ❤️ from Indiana Terry ☮️💙
Great job
Perfect
Nice custom good work
Looks good.
turned out fantastic! great video.
Good job, the only little thing I would have done differently is I would have used tape to paint the white over the blue for a better line. But I love the way you painted tools behind. (excuse my silly ENG)
I ran out of my fineline tape or I would have airbrushed it.
It is all good when daddy does diy.
love it!
That green 40s Chevy at the end I have that same exact car and it's in pretty good shape same green and everything
'51. I have a mint one fresh out of the blister.
sweet color combo!
Love it..😍😍

See a previous post reply. I ran out of my fineline masking tape so I would have done that. Given the scope of the project it will be just fine.
By adding a few drops of thinner to the paint your brushing, will allow it to flow easier and fill to the edges of the details.
I would have airbrushed this actually, but I ran out of fineline masking tape.
Great job cool truck can’t wait to see the next video
I hope to get to that one soon. I did another diorama type thing a while back. I live streamed the entire build and have pictures up here. www.thejunkmanadv.com/the-junk-mans-blog/datsun-620-diorama
Nice!!!
Great job 👍 nice custom wrecker truck
Turned out nice! You should do another!
I just might. Seems like people like it. Did you see the end of the video?
@@thejunkman yes i did! Love dioramas, looking forward to it.
Check this one out for the time being. www.thejunkmanadv.com/the-junk-mans-blog/datsun-620-diorama
200th like, nice job, keep it up! (nice way to paint with different colours 👏👌)
Pretty kool bro
Turned out pretty decent. Personally I would have sprayed the white two tone as I don't care for the bruched paint appearance. Overall, nice restore.
Read the comments, I addressed this why I didn't.
thejunkman It’s alright, just give that comment the bruch off.😉
nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had a green and blue Mega Duty before. It was my favorite, but I lost it. =(
I like it
I have three rambling wreckers all three have no tow hitch and one is yellow
Nice custom. Im trying to get my hands on one. What is the chrome pen you used and where can I get one
MoloTow liquid chrome, bought it on Amazon
@@thejunkman thanks man
Looks good next time do a wheel swap
I almost did. I couldn't find anything I liked.
That thing is bitchin! 👍.Nice job homeskillet!
Homestar
The junkyard would be cool... Use the green one and turn it into a crash car...
I have a unique idea for that one
Cool custom you made.
I think if you had used Tamiya masking tape to tape of the side panels and then airbrushed the white on it it would have looked much better
I was out of my fineline masking tape or that is what I would habe done. This was to play with so it's going to get scratched up pretty quickly so I made some compromises.
I'm trying to find the button head screw but I think I'm looking in the wrong directions. Can you please help out.
I got a pack of 100 on Amazon for like $8 (p/n B01I28XQAC)
Look on AliExpress ,im use the M2 screws to close Hot wheels
I would’ve loved to see you install headlights
Interesting thought, but not for a 2 year old.
Ah yes , Understood.
Nice restoration. I would of made it a tow truck again.
I left it open to add a custom metal A frame towing rig in the future. At this point it would be kinda dangerous for my son
happy new years !!
Where can I get a chrome pen
Anyone ever notice the base from these trucks are from the dodge van
Yes, a lot of bases cross from model to model. Especially in the 70's
Add some 3 in1 oil and you shouldn't need to worry about breaking your tap
Get hold of me. I make tow beds for these.
Which brand of surfacer were you using?
Tamiya
@@thejunkman Wow, I have bought one, the effect looks good.
way better, but your hand brushing skills are going to need work, as you know. If you had that idea right off you could have masked and painted in the white with the air brush. Did real nice on the bed, what happened that made you shake when you were doing the lines on the side or the white?

If you had a super van the base is the same and you can have a metal base on your project
I prefer Marty's restorations videos.
Not sure if I have seen his. I was inspired as I don't normally do hot wheels stuff. Mostly motorcycles.
Wow that came out really nice. I think I had one of those too 👍 I liked and subbed to your channel 😃
Thanks. You do model railroading?
thejunkman you’re welcome. Yes I just got back at it about 2 years ago with my current layout. I took about 20 years off😜😃
Maybe add emergency lights to the top
I could do that. At this point I don't want any potentially loose parts that could break off.
i'd give it real riders
i thought id heard this music before
mfw i realised it was from a Japanese anime porn game i played
Its Kevin McCleod, so the game probably used it too because it is royalty free
I would of masked off and sprayed the white, so you dont see the brush strokes
Yeah, check the description and other comment replies. I explian this.
@@thejunkman other then that, it looks awesome!
I should have mentioned this in the video, but didn't think anything of it. You know RUclips though, that one thing will be what people latch onto. LOL. Thanks for watching. I have more in the pipeline when I get time to finish editing them.
Paint the wheels back to chrome
I did.
Oh also what about the tow hitch
I explained that in the video. This is more of a service truck now. I may add a metal a-frame at some point but that would be a little dangerous right now.
what’s the song at 1:06? it reminds me of a Gran Turismo game’s soundtrack
I'd have to look it up, its a Kevin Macleod song
I heard when that truck came out the kids were calling that phone number on it
You read that on Hot Wheels wiki, lol
Where is the boom
I may add a custom built metal one, but its a bit dangerous at this stage for general play.
Nooo man nooo
??
Could only watch first minute of this - loud 1980's soft porn soundtrack background music soooo distracting and if turn volume down then miss narration.
Weird. I have no problem hearing the narration, wonder if it is a RUclips problem. I guess there is always closed captions.
16k subs but only 723 views? Kinda fishy if you ask me.
What do you mean? I don't understand.
thejunkman out of 16 thousand people, only around 700 deiced to watch it.
Well that is like all of RUclips. These videos do better over time in search. Check out my channel I have several videos over 1 million views and most of my motorcycle how to videos get 1,000's of views a day, but not from subscribers.
That white detail is too thick and totally sloppy !
See other comments and responses as to why. Thanks for the comment!
Now for the honest comment.... It looks crap. Very messy and poor end result. Strip it and start again. And the towing hitch is still missing!
Fair enough opinion, but it seems you might be in the minority. Its going to be played with and I like it so that is really all that matters. If it inspires others that is what its all about. I'd love to see your work.
