When I was much younger (when dinosaurs ruled the earth :-)) I thought it would be wonderful to live in (say) DC or NY and be able to go listen to speeches ans panels, by people in the know. NOW I sit here in my little apartment and can do this. I find this absolutely remarkable!
I feel the same way. I am on the other side of the Atlantic and not quite from the dinosaur era, but I also find it remarkable that I now have access to things like these.

The best is Gresham College in the UK. They have a RUclips channel but also an independent site where you can download both video or audio. Gresham has been delivering public lectures since the time of Elizabeth I. Top drawer!
Insofar as they didn't take into consideration superficial personal attributes like how someone dressed, etc., when they were creating their rating rubric (for want of a better term), I would like to ask the speaker what DID they base their rating on? Gut instinct? Just curious.

Spying is neat and all, and we spend a ton of money on it, but there are entire shelves of books in the library on target nations that go completely un-read. Anthropologists and economists and historians and linguists pore over foreign cultures and the stuff gets filed away unnoticed by anyone except their academic peers. I know this because the reading lists of our top decisionmakers are woefully inadequate and they show no advanced understanding of the culture of their opponents. From Vietnam onward we hire think tanks to write custom books that justify one or another position. If we took the time to study the world, we would spend a lot less blood and treasure fighting in it. The Brits and the French, now those are people who study a problem first. Even the Russians.
that's a really interesting observation robert - it's why i try and read people like noam chomsky, a chap who's spent his life doing the digging for our benefit.
Never sell your country for anything or anyone. You can disagree, you can fight until both of you are bloody and exhausted, but you never betray the thing you love- much less sell it.
I was just thinking that. Throw Russian generated "woke" into the mix and its game over. There is no way the CIA will investigate a black man under the present climate. The Russians are seriously smart!
She keeps getting teary eyed when talking about the Soviet spies, calling them "victims" and "assets" and portraying them as heroes. When discussing Ames, she calls him a "traitor" and speaks with derision regarding him. It doesn't seem she would have had any problem giving Ames the death penalty, but when speaking about the Russians receiving the death penalty from their government she starts to cry. What's the difference between the Soviets and Ames? From my (non American) perspective they're exactly the same but just on different sides.
+Chris Harrison What's the difference? Are you suggesting there's no difference? If all you know about this case comes from this video, you couldn't possibly have a meaningful opinion either way.
+Chris Harrison ; She's a patriot and believes that we were right and they were wrong. What's wrong with that, and what's the point in joining if you don't believe in anything? If you view Communism as the moral equivalence to Individualism, or Americanism, it is you that have a problem.
Well, the difference is, the US is the beacon of freedom to the world (at least it used to be). The USSR sought to enslave the entire world. Not a small difference.
Layne Hansen Tell that to the people of the Philippines/Vietnam/Iraq. Your arrogance and blind belief is laughable. The phrase 'Beacon of freedom' is hilarious to anyone not indoctrinated by US propaganda.
The incompetence of Grimes and her colleagues is truly monumental. When a spy shows up in a brand new Jaguar on a salary that is basically half the value of that car it should immediately lead to questions. It didn’t!
I believe women have an intuition and understanding of men which, combined with analytical abilities, enable them to do excellent counterintelligence work.
Fascinating talk. Usually I can't stand the questions section but this one I watched all the way through.
Glad you enjoyed the speech!

What happened to the individual who betrayed the wire taps on the Soviet undersea cables?
She wonderfully explains CIA's main flaw.Neurotic imbalance between mole-mania and naivety in relying on assets.
Sandy radiates class and integrity. Jean was so lucky to have had as great a friend as Sandy.
I hope Ames has a long stay in Colorado's SuperMax, and gets out with a tag on his toe.

Sadly he is in the Federal Prison Camp at Allenwood, Pennsylvania. I’ve been there for my work. It is far better than he deserves.
@Bobb Grimley sadly that may be true.
Utterly fascinating. Remarkable women. Assets to one side, and traitors to others, and visa versa. The second oldest profession.

CIA has a lot of independently wealthy people. The parking lot has many fine foreign autos driven by expensively-dressed people.
