In 1953 I was mortified, along with my entire 2nd grade class, by our teacher Mrs. DeGoyer. She dressed us all in the same one-piece type of white pajamas (padded feet) and forced our mothers to make little cottontails that snapped on to our rear ends. And we all wore white bunny ears --- homemade, of course. Then we rehearsed the Bunny Hop for two weeks so we could perform it for the elementary school's autumn show. At the end of the dance we tore off our oh-so-cute cotton tails and threw them at the audience. When the audience laughed we didn't understand and most of us started to cry uncontrollably Mrs. DeGoyer was not happy. We weren't too thrilled either.
I remember it was my 11th birthday,I was at school celebrating it since i already did all my work.I had to dance infront of the class but instead we sort of did a conga line while bunny hopping to this song.It was one of the best days of my life. There was 20 of us so it made it even funnier 😊
I remember been I think maybe 13 or so and my 75 year old cousin grab my hand and we did the Bunny Hop at one of her grandsons weddings because her husband wouldn't do it with her LOL and then we also did the chicken dance after the Bunny Hop was over LOL he thought those dances silly lol she said follow my lead she passed a few years back sure she is dancing away up there
🐇I learned this, danced this, in 1973 or 1974. I was 3 or 4 years old. I always thought it was a children's dance, like the Hokey Pokey. .😄 Love those high-kicks and flips!
Oh the memories!!! In the late 70s into the late 80s, the dancehalls in Texas played the cotton-eyed-Joe followed by this jewel and the formation usually deviated off the dance floor into the seating area. Funfunfun times!
This is the REAL origin of the Bunny Hop.....there are you tube videos for the Bunny Hop hip hop version that reveal a song and a dance that is much different but people entitle their videos "Bunny Hop Line dance"
This is such a cute favorite of mine. Used to play it on the piano and organ as a kid. It was a lot easier to hop to the bunny 🐇🕳hop back then. Anyone else remember this jewel? Lol 🤔❤🇺🇸🐇🕳
This is some excellent bunny hopping! Unfortunately, at the back of the set, I see the advertising slogan, "CHESTERFIELD FIRST CHOICE OF YOUNG AMERICA." I don't think that cigarette smoking is bunny approved.
True. But, back then, cigarettes were advertised everywhere. One thing that occurs to me is that Ray Anthony played with Glenn Miller's orchestra (1940-1941), and, at one point in time, Chesterfield sponsored the Glenn Miller radio broadcasts. Mr. Anthony is still with us at age 97!
Hay, everyone! Here's an Easter tip 4 those who do da bunny hop 4 Easter, make sure u eat plenty of beans and have the person u don't like to b behind u.Hsopy Easter!🌷🐇
@William Nash And people say we Americans don't have traditions anymore ... 40 years later, I was doing this in elementary school too. No costumes, but similar embarrassment!
The Song of the Sixties , with the same steps ,was" Let 's kiss", the penguin dance, but It had not the same melody. In Italy It was titled "il ballo del pinguino" , sung by gemelle Kessler.
Hmmm... 1953, you say? Was Mr. Hugh Hefner watching this TV show? Look at the bunnies hanging out and snapping their fingers. Same year he first published Playboy Magazine.
They both came into the public eye about the same time (1953), but did Ray Anthony’s ‘Bunny Hop’ inspire Hugh Hefner to create ‘Playboy’, or was it the other way around??
You can't take yourself too seriously when you get up in front of people and do the Bunny Hop. It helps if you are under the age of 55. After that you're risking dislocations and injuries.
Elmer Fudd did this dance in one of Bugs Bunny's cartoons. I think Elmer had amnesia and switched personalities with Bugs. It was at the end of the toon

William Nash that’s a hilarious story! Thank you for sharing!
2nd grade is a time for fun...eh?
So cool
😁 👍
Hey
73 years young and learned this when I was 5. Mom stood up for 3 weddings. My 6 year old partner taught me the bunny hop and polka!
This song is stuck in my head!
The Bunny Hop..wish we could all go back in time..the best
Happy Easter 2023 Hop Hop Hop 💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾
Here it is, near the end of 2019 and Ray Anthony is still with us. Fantastic.
He will turn 100 next year
turned 100 last week.
Glad he is still going.
He's still going strong in early 2023 - Mr. Anthony turned 101 this past January.
@@Railhog2102 kmkjklkn13Y❤😂p
One of the high points of America’s post-war culture!
We did the children's version of this as kids at the Chatham Band Concert on Cape Cod every Friday night. So much fun and great memories! ❤

Here’s a trip: Ray Anthony is still around! At 101! Peace & Blessings!
Now 102 Years of Age 😁😁😁
Happy 102nd Birthday Ray Anthony!
God bless! The last remaining member of the Glenn Miller band
I woke up this morning, with this tune in my head. Classic.
Warren Frederick Seltzer's last requested song. He has since HOPPED HOPPED HOPPED, to olam haba. May his memory be a blessing.
THIS IS AMAZING, i love the high kicks!!
This was the inspiration for Hugh Hefner to use a bunny as the mascot for Playboy magazine.
You are so special. Thank you for the smiles
Happy Easter,Ray Anthony!
My great nephew who is just 18 months old loves this!!!!
My little girl loves this song. It's such a great little jazz-like number.
Bravissimo! By far the swingiest most danceable version of The Bunny Hop of all time!
When you can’t stop listening to this
Alright boomer
I still remember this song from my first ever tap/ballet class at 3 years old. I still have it on a 45 🥰
That was great, I remember it well 😂
Solo la escuché y la ame 😍 esta sensacional, me encanta esa época.💃🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Those girls hunched over in bunny costumes look like they’re being tortured!
Carlton dancing at the playboy mansion brought me here lol
Fresh Prince brought here
🐇I learned this, danced this, in 1973 or 1974. I was 3 or 4 years old. I always thought it was a children's dance, like the Hokey Pokey. .😄 Love those high-kicks and flips!
I learned it at the same time, and it was DEFINITELY, a kid's dance by then, just like the Hokey Pokey, which was written by... This guy, Ray Anthony!
Muchas gracias ayer le decía a mi esposa como se bailaba y no me lo creyó pero ahora si me va a creer un millón de gracias que pasen buena tarde.
Bruh my school had to do this dance yesterday in a line around the whole school for an hour 💀
we had to do this for our social dance unit in dance class 😭🤚🏽
They use to play this at the skating rank when I was younger. I didn't realize how old this song was. I was born in 1987.
Very nice! This video came up when I was trying to find Gavotte by Francois Joseph Gossec.
i really love the song
Strangely hypnotic.
Love this version of the bunny hop for adults! If we could all do this today, we'd be in great shape! 👍
This is a brilliant vid. I am going to learn how to do the Bunny Hop!
I remember when i was real little. Like in first grade, we used to do this all the time
Wait...wha...all these years & I had no idea this song had words!
I heard another version on RUclips with completely different lyrics - except, of course, for the required “hop, hop, hop!”
I have this on 45 RPM. The record is called, "Dance Craze" along with 3 other songs lol.
It's a must for the first day of spring And Easter.
I heard this at a wedding over 20 years ago and it randomly popped in my head
This world will be a better place when we have a new novelty dance ,or two -Ray, I'm dancing with you in Cotati, Ca
"go wait in the car Carlton
"
uncle phil
I did this in 3rd grade because I had one of the best teachers 😊
Just the very, very slightest tinge of rock'n'roll; not much, but it's there. Now let's Rock around the Rockpile, Ray!
Oh the memories!!! In the late 70s into the late 80s, the dancehalls in Texas played the cotton-eyed-Joe followed by this jewel and the formation usually deviated off the dance floor into the seating area. Funfunfun times!
I bet those were better times back then....I envy people who lived in those times cause everything had to be simpler back then.
Happy Easter one and all!!
WOW !TOO MUCH FUN. !
I was sent here by my music teacher 😂
same
Yeah me to CD
*XD
;-;
Same
James Williamson sent me here.
Part of all skater's fun at the Redondo Beach rink in 1950s
Yep... 1961 Harry's Roller Rink in San Bernardino! Our 7th grade class loved the occasional skating parties.
I’m watching this because my preschoolers and I are doing this for class….
So cool and fun
Hell they still do it today!!! 🐰
This is the REAL origin of the Bunny Hop.....there are you tube videos for the Bunny Hop hip hop version that reveal a song and a dance that is much different but people entitle their videos "Bunny Hop Line dance"
HAPPY EASTER!!!!!
yep I used to do this in puplic school yrs, lotta fun back then
Same
Learned this last night at jive + tonight. LOVE IT :D
Ordinates at my high school Balboa HS in San Francisco, CA, in 1953. This dance would be held during lunch break in front of the school. 2:49
I love it.
I love bunnys❤
Same
This is such a cute favorite of mine. Used to play it on the piano and organ as a kid. It was a lot easier to hop to the bunny 🐇🕳hop back then. Anyone else remember this jewel? Lol 🤔❤🇺🇸🐇🕳
Easter bloody Easter sent me here hahaha lol lmfao 😂🤣😅
They played this in one of my school plays
Classic I always associate this as an easter song lol
I love the musical arrangement of this song. I thought it used to be a bit faster.
coool I loved this song
This is a good psychological assessment tool. If your self-esteem is low, you will drop dead from humiliation doing this dance.
band sounds great
This song makes me want to light up a big cigar, pour a glass of Hamms beer and crack open a Playboy magazine while listening to Dean Martin.
The only thing to make this really great would be to see a dog in a bunny costume riding a roomba.
I learned this at school
This is some excellent bunny hopping! Unfortunately, at the back of the set, I see the advertising slogan, "CHESTERFIELD FIRST CHOICE OF YOUNG AMERICA." I don't think that cigarette smoking is bunny approved.

But, aren't bunnies among the animals that they test tobacco on?
The Bunny Hop was created by high school kids in San Framcisco..Balboa High..
oh my god he’s still alive
“PYONG PYONG PYONG FOR CRASS AND CHIAMP”
It was half Rhythm and Blues and led to the creation of Rock 'N Roll.
i got this on wheel of fortune xD 🥶🤫☹️🤗🙁😶🤔😭😯☹️
Hay, everyone! Here's an Easter tip 4 those who do da bunny hop 4 Easter, make sure u eat plenty of beans and have the person u don't like to b behind u.Hsopy Easter!🌷🐇
In Jerry Spinelli’s novel Stargirl, this song was danced to.
@William Nash And people say we Americans don't have traditions anymore ... 40 years later, I was doing this in elementary school too. No costumes, but similar embarrassment!
Easter 2019!!!
Necesito bailar esta canción. 🖤🐰
I remember this very well; today's generation name the dance "Penguin"; same melody; interesting!!
not one person has said that ever
The Song of the Sixties , with the same steps ,was" Let 's kiss", the penguin dance, but It had not the same melody.
In Italy It was titled "il ballo del pinguino" , sung by gemelle Kessler.
Hmmm... 1953, you say? Was Mr. Hugh Hefner watching this TV show? Look at the bunnies hanging out and snapping their fingers. Same year he first published Playboy Magazine.
This is so 1950;s
I bet everyone here is just watching this for school.
Gracias hermoso
It reminds me of the movie 'Cry Baby' when the squares did this dance all the way to Alison's house. 🤣
All I think about when I hear this is whenever Mystery Science Theater 3000 uses when riffing movies.
It really swings Daddio!
Makes me look for my pink & charcoal.tweed sportcoat.
Happy Easter 2014...The Easter Bunny
Muy buena música, tenía 7 años.
Bunny bunny hop hop hop!!!
The REAL Bunny Hop.
They both came into the public eye about the same time (1953), but did Ray Anthony’s ‘Bunny Hop’ inspire Hugh Hefner to create ‘Playboy’, or was it the other way around??
Chesterfield's

Aah, the "good old days".
At least I'm not going to Alcatraz.
