I have the same problem currently. Just got done cleaning the whole intake. Went through the hassle and took the entire thing off. Very very dirty inside and even in the engine ports it was dirty. Thankfully there was nothing on the top of the valves from what I could see. Slapped it all back together and going to clear the code soon. I honestly won’t be surprised if it does come back. This video gave me an idea of all the possible other things I could fix if the code comes back. So thank you and you earned yourself a sub!
LOL....I am actually going through this same issue but I have a 2009 Mazda 3 w/ the 2.3 motor...Everytime I get on the freeway I pop the CEL P0401 code....I clear it....everytime...Then once in a while I will get the CEL P04201 code too!....I will check the same stuff you pointed out and see if it fixes mine.
I'm having the same problem on my 00 se I cleaned the intake out, the tube wasn't clogged, new egr valve, swapped the boost sensor, the vacuum solenoid and pcv valve still have the same 401 code coming back any advice
The only thing that you haven't done that I did was changing my upstream O2 sensor, but that was for a different code that came up when I did what you did. So besides the O2 sensor, I honestly don't know.
Hey thanks for the advice I cleaned the intake about 3 times but I just cleared the code with my scanner and it kept coming back within a day but this last weekend I cleaned it and pulled the battery and I've almost got through a whole tank of gas without a cel hopefully I got it this time but megasquirt is going in soon so it was a fix so I don't have to see the light in the meantime lol
Honestly I have no idea. He just found that on an old Miata forum and it worked. Well kind of. After he change hose locations it's threw a different code that was for an upstream O2 sensor. I think the hose relocation has to do with the different vacuum levels from each location? I don't know for sure though

Also the vacuum reroute has been done for a while now

Mazda Protege 5 + EGR valve = bane of my existence. So many stolen hours from my family 😭
Yeah no kidding! Delt with this for a year
My check engine light just went on and the code is PO401 but shows EGR in green and shows cat and o2s blinking red, what does this mean...
My best guess is that you need to change your o2 sensors, and/or your cat is bad and need to be replaced
I would start with replacing the o2 sensors and see if that works
How come he changed the vacuum hoses. Every other nb I see has the cap where you originally had it. I have the same car 2000 special editions

@@miataeverything ahh I see I have no code I’m just trying to get my egr ready for smog. That’s the only sensor I need
