Great point, Dan. I thought thawt, too. I think that is down to the great writing and Clayne's brilliant understanding the Teddy character. Poor Teddy copped a real battering in the end, and grew into a better human being as a consequence. In a way, he had to break out of the cocoon and remove the constraints that were stifling his emotional development. He had to let Tawny go, reject the path mapped out by his dad, and find a rapprochement with Daniel. All incredibly moving moments in the series. These character seemed so real, thanks to the quality of the acting. I felt connected with all of them.
Rectify is that rarest of series. Ray McKinnon's characters took you on a journey through a previously unexplored world of human emotions. With the screenplay, the cast created every character perfectly, especially Aden Young. Razor- sharp but delicate as a butterfly, the foibles and strengths of these people provoked an emotional response missing in most films. An astonishing series that improves with review.
along with the series breaking bad , this show so far in my mind is the second best series to ever air on tv .......I have high hpoes for it's continuation ......as it breaks new ground like breaking bad....
This show is finally streaming in Australia. I watched all 30 episodes in week. It really pulls you in, and the acting - especially Aden Young's - was amazing.
Excellent TV series. One of the best IMO. And this scene. Well I did some time in federal and some of the stories that the older inmate told us would chill you to the core. I think this scene exemplifies that so well.
Thanks Netflix by the way. After Breaking Bad I wasn't really interested in any shows - except of course GOT - but this one just got me right at the first episode. I heard Bryan Cranston saying in one interview, that a great show is all about the writing and that brings out the best of the actors, directors and everyone involved. It is why possibly Rectify is so good!
I think Bryan Cranston was being a little modest about his own abilities. Someone who's got as much comedic talent as dramatic, could read an instructional manual out loud, and make it sound like the most interesting thing you've ever heard.
Teddy was so arrogant and full of privilege...That slowly changed...especially when Daniel choked his arrogant azz out. Teddy evolved as a character and became empathetic...and likable. Great writing...

I just discovered this show, and I love it. But ... I found this scene forced and unnatural. It made no sense that Daniel would confide such horrors in Teddy. Now, I'm sure someone will tell me -- that's exactly why it works -- or offer some other context or explanation. But, for me, it seemed overwrought and overdone and literally made me wonder if the show was gonna be any good moving forward. Of course, it was ... : )
I kindof agree, but I think Daniel might be the only character where this could come even close to working. He has never been asked about sex in prison before and it brought up a memory that he was holding in for 19 years. When it came out it was like a dam broke, and since Daniel is a bit autistic and/or at least emotionally stunted, he doesn't understand what he is doing to teddy. Daniel is both the most and least straightforward character Ive ever seen throughout the series, because he truly doesnt know how or when to communicate with people.
At the first moment i though it was forced too. But after considering that the guy spent 20 years just waiting death, isolated from everyone ( including cell mates, only interacting with them by voice or in the shower, and random family/lawyer visits) you can comprehend this lack of social skills. For example in his mind he doesnt understand he could frighten someone by telling naturally he was raped once and again Everything loses sense for Daniel, and this character has a sincere personality, and he probably saw in Teddy (that is not so close to him) someone to share.
Scott Clarkin yeah I've watched all of it now and really like it, just hate waiting between seasons. It still has kind of a slingblade vibe to it though.
MrCoffeekelly the southern feel I'd imagine, this scene leads too so much of the problems in later seasons, with the ultimate emotional pay off in the finale with the Teddy/ Daniel phone call
I LOVE THIS FRICKIN SHOW!!!!!!
me too. It's been like 8 years since I've watched it. Time to watch it again!
When I was watching season 1, I could not imagine Teddy as a sympathetic character. Not so here at the end. A testament to how good this show is.

That is the reason I keep revisiting this scene.
Exactly. People are just sooo complex, aren’t they??
Just stumbled upon this show a few weeks ago. Four season later, it's probably now my favorite of all time..
Breaking Bad, Leftovers, Rectify have to be the best written shows I have ever seen.

It really is the best! Fantastic acting and show! Can't wait for third season...
One of the most saddest moment I've ever seen on a movie.
One of the best scenes ever ;) !!!
Honestly the best monologue
It was the truth. That's why it was so good.

Just finished watching on Netflix in 2019. Would have loved to see a season 5, 6 etc. Great show.

NEVER ask a man what he had to endure in prison. You don't want to know. As these scene so aptly shows.
or Vietnam. Just don't ask....
My favorite scene is when Tawny and Daniel dance. And the music -- perfect! Wow!

What do u thank netflix for?
@@spiewajit4ncz they put this great show on platform. Never heard of it until I saw it on Netflix. Now it is one of my top 5 shows of all time.
Ropi72 I agree. Breaking Bad is my all time favorite series. Rectify is a close second. Versailles is good to
Try the Leftovers

I hadn't appreciated just how powerful this scene is
Teddy was so arrogant and full of privilege...That slowly changed...especially when Daniel choked his arrogant azz out. Teddy evolved as a character and became empathetic...and likable. Great writing...
fav show
Clayne Crawford
Clayne Crawford's aged visibly since Season 1
"You asked, Ted🤷♂️... hope I didn't cross some imaginary line with you....Ted"
so good, especially in the final minutes of the show when Ted gives the "consuming" look to his wife. Damn good television.
Amazing TV show
It’s a good show!!

Love it haha, but I disagree the talk with Avery or when he gets to the beach.. both those scenes teared me up
One of the best shows ever tho!
Jake Walker is one of my best friends..!
Is there anybody who knows what episode is this??
하고와 I think it's the second episode in season 1.
Just finished the series
Great show..,however didn’t like the end...
Yeah, the end was a bit too 'cute' - a lot of loose ends tied up instead of leaving a few things undone. IDK why American shows tend to be like that.
Daniel did nothing wrong. M A T R I C U L A T E D

yankeedoodlecajun I think he's trying to shock Teddy so he'll shut up and put a dent in his attitude
It also links to the coffee grounds/pants down scene
I agree, I think he was annoyed when Teddy was talking about prison and how nosy he is so he was like, okay then you can just get all the details.
At the first moment i though it was forced too.

I've watched a few episodes of this show and it really seems like a ripoff of slimgblade. Especially the part where he says not funny haha.

It's nothing at all like slingblade.
