  • A year ago I reviewed the Network Acoustics Eno streaming system. Now they introduce a further developed filter and cable called Muon. Given the results with the Eno, I was immediately interested. And while testing I did some interesting discoveries.

    Hallo Hans. In de overgang van het oude segment over jitter naar de opname van deze week is heel duidelijk hoorbaar en zichtbaar dat je operatie een groot positief effect heeft. Goed om te zien👍

    I greatly appreciate your honesty when you state that you did not experience a significant improvement in your first hi-end set-up. 🙂 And I also agree that the best way to evaluate the product, assuming I have the funds to keep it if impressive, is to use their 30 day money back guarantee. I'll have to see if this is available here in Canada with the local distributor.

    Dear Hans,
    Currently I’m playing with a Audio Note Dac3.1x/II that accepts only until 96khz. If have read that the Mu-1 only sends PCM 176,4 en 192kHz to external dac. I was wondering if there is a option to set a limit tot 96kHz?

    Hi Hans, Thanks again for the nice review! I'm wondering if this system would still have added value in a Diretta setup. Are you planning to looking into Diretta anytime soon? Seems it is compared to other solutions pretty undocumented and could benefit from structured review...

    I realized that with the Grimm Audio Mu1 (which I intend to buy) the use of Eno (which I own) or Muon, leads to negligible improvements.
    The same thing can be said for an optical connection upstream of the swtich (in my case sotm) before the Muon? Does the audio quality - be it fiber optic or lan cable - not change with the Mu1?

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  2 года назад +1

      I have not tested that for it means replacing the optical connection to two floors up. But my educated guess is that the MU1 will not sound better wit fibre.

    Hans, I strongly suspect that between power supplies and network geegaws, you've sold a LOT of turntables ;)
    Seriously, I'm less inclined to doubt the holdovers who cling to their CD transports for dear life, years after the rest of us burned everything to disk. No easy answers with anything mechanical/electro-mechanical but it would seem that we are intent on putting more gear in the chain from the source to our ears. Thanks for the video.

    I am wondering where "galvanic isolation" fits into all of this. Do I oversimplify the situation by suggesting that Eno and Muon possess galvanic isolation as one of their chief features and that therefore:
    1. when paired with an audiophile network switch (which generally does not contain galvanic isolation) they further improve SQ. 2. when paired with Grimm MU1 (which seemingly contains galvanic isolation) they have minimal impact on SQ?

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  Год назад +1

      Galvanic separation is one of the techniques to avoid degradation of the digital signal, but surely not the only one. Filtering out noise is another one, as is reclocking, reshaping and so on. Network Acoustics doesn't tell what they do exactly. But their products do an excellent job.

      @@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel Thank you for your reply. One of the things Network Acoustics does admit to doing is reducing network speed from 1Gb to 100Mbs. Coincidentally, this is something Dutch cable manufacturer Tubulus advertises as a feature of their ethernet cables. Tubulus also got a great review from HEADquarter audio on youtube recentlly for both their i2s and XLR cables. That might be a brand worth reviewing sometime - high quality specs including silver conductor and air dialectrics, yet nor extremely expensive.

    How do you measure noise on your ethernet to know if you need this product?

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  2 года назад +1

      With two ears. It's not only the ethernet noise, it's also how well your network player can deal with it. As I mentioned in the review, the influence of the filter on the Grimm Audio player was rather limited but on other players it was quite evident. You can try one and send it back when it doesn't bring improvement....

I just feel that having so much emphasis on expensive components in areas like the the ethernet chain could be out wayed by buying a better essential component like dac or amp. I disagree. I bought the Muon as soon as it was released a month ago. It is one of the best product you can spend your money on if you stream from Tidal, Qubuz, Apple Music and other services. Network Acoustics is a new brand but already received highly positive reviews from highly respected reviewers like HiFi+ and The Ear. Hans is right to bring us the best in digital audio playback available today. Those who ignore this as a rabbit hole diversion do so at their own expense.

    Hans, have you tried going from switch>ethernet cable>media converter>fiber >media converter w/ ifi dc ipurifier2 >6 inch Cat 8 cable>streamer? The fiber run is suppose to remove all noise, the media converter should add very little noise with the ifi dc ipurifier2, and the short cat8 is sheilded and because of short length won't pick up much noise. It costs less than $200 and I would think that you would get simular results to this product.

    • @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel
      @TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel  2 года назад +1

      Fibre only kills the noise that otherwise would be transported through the galvanic connection. Phase noise isn't killed by it. Furthermore the conversion from galvanic to optical and back could introduce deterioration. So it might help - it does in in my connection from the third floor to downstairs - but it's not the end solution.

      @@TheHansBeekhuyzenChannel who would there still be phase noise? Is it coming from the media converter? Would a common mode choke fix this?

  • @stass.5641

    Network data is transferred from one buffer of the operating system (server) to another buffer OS (client). There can be only two results of the transfer: everything is delivered exactly or the connection is broken. How many devices are on the path, optical cable or twisted pair, etc. absolutely does not matter. Operating system buffer cannot have jitter 🤷‍♂️
    Sorry for my poor English.
