When I painted my Hendey I planned to paint it with a brush and small roller, and I did for all the large castings. I used a high quality Sherwin Williams paint with some flow enhancer Flood Penetrol and that made a huge difference in the brushed and roller finishes. However I found a place that will take your own paint and put it in spray cans and I painted all the small and moderate sized parts with them. The finish was great and now the lathe looks like it was professionally painted. I didn't have any carbide scrapers but I used a cheap Harbor freight needle scaler and that saved a lot of time and worked great. Just sweep and vacuum up the chips.
I have had great luck with SW paint, I could not get across what I needed at the local store, they seemed annoyed, so I found paint at the Case IH dealer that works for me I mix their OEM grey and white to get what I want. I cant do the air tools because of noise, and I like removing the paint by hand with tools I have made. I can make up for my basic tractor paint with the dazzling bright work.
Hopefully you can get both completed to the point, where you can paint at the same time. I painted that drill press with a spay gun, I will use a brush on the next item. I want to compare finish and time. Have a great day!
I don't envy you painting the lathe. I took my Clausing 5913 apart and painted one section at a time. But it will be a thorough paint job. I still need to strip and paint the saddle and the apron and then I will be through with the painting but have some repair work to do on both items. I do envy you still being able to climb onto the back of the truck.
I think I can do a reasonable job getting the paint on the lathe without much disassembly, the drill will be easy. to paint., taking a break and heading back out, nice and warm out there today.
I think they will both be great. Do you have any words of wisdom -- I'm looking for a hardinge HCT with threading attachment -- any thoughts would be appreciated.
I would count on new spindle bearings if they have not been already changed. I have used the chucker but not the threading attachments. I would also consider the wear on the 5c internal taper. Good luck, they are not really worth what many are asking, drive a hard bargain!
@@deedeeindustrialsuperprecision So it's a plus factor. We encourage you to complete the overhaul and you get a kick out of using them after by cutting chips and we are watch you cutting chips. It's a win win. Tony
The combination of acetone and automatic transmission fluid with a brass brush. This has been around for a very long time mostly with wood working machine restorers
Thank you sir! Currently trying to get the elevator function working on our mor-speed 11”. Your videos are helping.
That Axleson is gonna be a beauty when you are done. Great old lathe.
I think there is still a lot of life left in this machine it is built to last,
Your perseverance and positive outlook is very inspiring. I look forward to every video and every word you share!
Thanks for that, I have been at it all day maybe I can show progress tomorrow
I cant wait to see this baby up and running!
Hi, thanks, I am moving forward on it
Can’t wait to see that thing shined up and in use!
I am looking forward to learning the many things these drills can do, I only drilled a few holes at school years ago
Labor of love, lol...great job Dee Dee, looking great..
I am on it a progress report coming!

Yes, I should be able to bring the drill press to the point where the lathe is fairly soon, with a little elbow grease.

@ terry cannon
I have a Clausing 5912 in my shop that I keep setup for 5C collets. Love that old lathe for collet work.
@@grntitan1 I have a full set of 5 c collets for mine and the original collet closer.

Do you find painting your machines therapeutic compared to cutting chips. They're going to look outstanding when done. Tony
I find the comments therapeutic and encouraging from doing the videos. I tend to like using the machines more than working on them.

The lathe is looking great . What color are you planning on painting it ?
I am thinking a dark grey
What was the solution that you use to clean up the lathe and Radial drill

Thanks so much I appreciate it
Were you adding on to your shop
Also?
Yes, I will move a wall out
