This is gonna be a fun watch! Could be a endless series of building the boat, launching the boat and “noodling”! Your Dad should have filmed building the trailer and tearing down the pontoon boats and assembling the 4 pontoons into what is now on the trailer! Jeff is a VERY talented guy! 👍

Heck build you a fold down 36" square platform that folds down close to the water, put you a valve and a shower head mounted on the side of the house boat, hooked up to a small water pump 12v and or 110. Pump water straight out the river and there you got a shower. Do the same for an outside skinning sink.

I just ran across some of your videos today and jut wanted to say great job. I love the Outdoor Kitchen build, Gave me some great ideas to start one soon. Looks like you live in a great location for fishing and Hunting, I used to but as it goes Hunting Property gets developed and then its gone trying to find new places to hunt is nearly impossible unless you belong to a hunting club or lease land. I am now subscribed so I cant wait to see more videos being posted and I will check to some of the ones you have already done. Thanks

I have done the same thing with my kids, with hunting and fishing. You can not survive without doing this. I am a little older than you are. I use to build house when I was younger. I didn't want to do that the rest of my life, so I entered the Army in 1986. Spent over 18 years. I was medically retired, because of my disability. While I as in the service I lived in many countries. Then moved back to the state of Wisconsin where I bought a house. Like you I do not live close to any cities. I do follow you and Hannah. I enjoy watching your youtube videos. Nice to see that I am not the only one that pass off different skills. Keep up the great job. RDR

Ya'll definitely gotta build that boat strong to survive those mean Bama thunderstorms! Me and 5 others camped at Dega in a pop up camper several times. The first year we rode out a pretty good thunderstorm and the wind rocked us around pretty good even with 6 of us in it and also all the heavy beer and supplies we had in the middle! The next year was when all of us rode out another Dega thunderstorm when a tornado came by and missed us and the track by only a couple of miles! Lightning hit a tree next to us and I felt the heat on my head and face as I slept in the pull out wing part! Then that wind almost tumped us over! Good thing I decide to hitch it back up to my truck before we went to bed or we'd been in the creek which became a river and washed away most of our neighbors who were in tents! Every time I've been to dega it has stormed like that! We have storms like this in Ky too, but not that often in early April! Since then I bought a 30 foot motorhome! Too heavy for a storm to flip so easy!

I commented on your daughters page about this and wanted to post it on yours also. Put bunk beds on the walls the fold up onto the wall when you are not sleeping. Use a pocket door on the opposite side of the steering so you can still have windows on that side. Just some thoughts for you all. Keep up the great videos and I am looking forward to see the progress you all make with this.

Wow, so very cool. You two can really smash my old brain with memories. Like some old WW1 and WW2 veterans my dad came home from it and built a large barge or pontoon boat to live on the local river with while fishing, musseling, etc. Wish I had the pics of it. He had a homemade skiff john boat 4' W by 16' for running nets, mussel bars, etc. House boat was like 12 or 14 ' wide by 30'. With an open high deck or "widow's watch" kinda deal set up on too. Dad used all kinds of stuff to build his like old trailer parts etc. Pops had an old motor from a WW1 vet, a "Waterman" I think he called it. Think he said the one old WW1 vet had four rigged up on the stern of his house boat that was bigger than dads. Plus they had a on-board emergency paddle/rudder system set up using old Cushman (?) bike parts, motor. Plus their long poles and staging chains for floods tying up or pushing slowly alone the banks in eddy currents. Even using grappling hooks, crazy. Such antics and ways are illegal around here now like river side cabins in many areas are being forced out and destroyed. Like cabin owners are the ones digging in levee systems... not ground-hogs. Some don't like out-house ideas or those who live by the river they claim is polluting, destructive to levees, or bad for the environment. Heck, best years of my life was playing 'river rat.' LOL Use that Ivory soap it floats. Or, homemade lye soap on a rope.

Hey Jeff? A couple of thoughts. Are you locked into a hard porch covering? An RV roll-out awning could achieve the same affect and stow for towing. If you are locked into a hard covering... you could piano hinge it to the wall to fold it up flat to the wall while towing. Supports... same concept of using a 2x4 brace to hold a newly erected wall upright/plumb until the next wall is erected to join to it (a detachable knee brace, so to speak). When travelling, fold it up and the externally mounted bracing could lock it in place (vertically). Once in need, loosen the lower anchor point, allowing the cover to hinge down to horizontal and have predetermined anchor points for those knee bracing legs. Should be able to keep it light... ounces equal pounds. Love the project.

Awesome! Thinking seal up them seams real well with liquid nails or closed cell foam spray or something to make sure air doesn't creep into the seems and cause drag and pull stuff apart. Thinking flashing real well maybe even using that PROSOCO R-GUARD FASTFLASH or maybe other liquid like flashing too to keep water out and last longer from rotting. Wondering if hurricane straps or something too? Not sure exactly, though've read into a little more-so to seal up when doing Hurricane Katrina relief work and somewhat related to Faraday Cage station safe room hut thinking. Thanks for sharing!

And your extra two toons in the middle came off a pontoon because they are circular. We call ours the "QUAD TOON". GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE! Yall gonna love it!! Good luck from Kentucky!!

To firguire the buoyancy on your pontoons.. just call the manufacturer...but a trick I learned is that if you need to firguire out buoyancy using barrels or say pvc tubes is this..
Find out how many gallons of water the tube or barrel will hold by filling it up with water and dumping in a container.. like a 5 gallon bucket or 55 drum...( or you just read where it says how many gallons..lol...some times I forget this..lol )
After you know how many gallons it holds ..take that number and multiply it by the weight of water ( which is about 8.34 pounds ) and then minus the weight of the container.
My self I just use 8 as my weight per gallon of water...close enough for girls I go out with...lol
So a 55 gallon barrel would be 55 x 8 and give you the buoyancy of 440 pounds..
Hope this helps you all on a furture project...
Still waiting on seeing a hog skinned in that new skinning shed..

You really should build a smoking cabinet for smoking carp, catfish and ham, you can make one from aluminum sheets- like old street signs you build it like a locker with a closeable chimney hole - just lay the cleaned out appropriately sized fish or ham into ice cold really salty salt whater for a 3hours , rince them off and hang them on hooks in the smoker - You can put a pepper crust onto it if you like it, use well dried bark free beechwood chips, dont let the oven over 120°C - 250f let it get soaked in smoke for a hour, remove the smoke generator (a old cooking pot you place a few coals into and cover them with woodchips) and let the fish cool some in the oven, you can eat some while its still warm with some bread and butter - horseradish and whip cream is really good with it
the smoked pieces stay edible for over two weeks in the cooler and taste cold almost as good as fresh from the oven
you also could smoke some ham from ferral pigs but they must lay longer in salt whater -like 6-7 hours and you have to smoke them longer - like 4-5 hours so the taste difuses all the way into it
also think of mosquito protection for your houseboat... mosqito wire etc also put a guard around the bottom so gators cant crawl on and sleep on the boat with you, good luck from Austria @6550 feet high right over the clouds in the mountains

I’ve been considering my future off grid/social distancing living situation. I have seriously considered building a pontoon boat based cabin like you guys. Can’t wait to see the results.

Consider using solar on the roof with lithium batteries to help support your electrical needs. It won't be enough to run the air conditioning, but it is a lot more relaxing than yelling over the generator. When the heat is tolerable, you will enjoy just having power without the generator noise.
