I "wierded out" my parents in 1973 when I came home with a Decca (MCA) double record album of their greatest hits...I was 18...I'm now 57 and still love them.....
To them perform pretty much live on record, it's really amazing. No female group could sing in harmony like they did. Patty was only 41 here. They look so much older.
Well, its almost 5am now,and I just happen to come up on WML by accident (with Bob Hope) as I was trying to see something else. I have seen many of them by now and have enjoyed every one of them. I guess I have to call in sick today to work as I wont be getting much sleep now. But it was well worth it. Thanks for posting these.
With Patty Andrews' passing on 30 January 2013 at age 94, one of the most remarkable careers in all of music has now drawn to a close. I for one am inconsolable.
they DID however place no.6 on the Songs of the Century list with 'Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy'... 22 spots ahead of The Beatles 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' (at 28).
@ BleedBNG. Regarding comparisons between the total record sales of The Andrews Sisters versus those of The Beatles, I believe that the record industry stopped counting the total record sales of The Andrews Sisters sometime during the 1970's, so no one knows for certain the exact total sales of The Andrews Sisters' records to date.
How funny, that the panel sings for wonderful Andrews Sisters, rather than the other way around! Unfortuneatly I can't make out which song they are trying to sing. Anybody get it? Thanks for posting this!
I love these old shows and clips. I always remember, also, what happened to Dorothy. I don't believe she died a natural death. If she did, it was a real coincidence that she died right before her scheduled press conference. Angie.
Hi Seafree - You post some really good videos but for some reason they don't show up as icons that can be accessed when your name is clicked. Is there something unusual in the way your site is set up?
To compare the Andrews Sisters to the Beatles I don't think takes anything away from either group. MCA hasn't released a record sales tally for the trio since 1974 (75 million), before the advent of CDs in the '80s, & the trio has had at least 150 CDs on the market in the past 40 years, not counting compilation releases featuring them with other artists. They were so big during their WW2 heyday & into the early-'50s that they were known worldwide by their first names alone, much like the Fab Four during the '60s & '70s. When the Beatles were fairly new to the recording industry, Art Linkletter introduced the Andrews Sisters on his "House Party" tv show in 1965 by saying, "You've heard of Elvis Presley selling millions of records & the Beatles selling a couple of million records...well, the Andrews Sisters have sold over 60 million records!" Even then that tally was far more than any other vocal group before them, male or female. Also, when my book was published in 1999 ("Swing It! The Andrews Sisters Story"), & perhaps still standing today in comparison, the Andrews Sisters achieved 46 Top 10 Billboard hits, which was more than Elvis or the Beatles at that writing. That shows how phenomenal their career was & why they are so well-remembered even today. John Sforza
No-one, and I mean no-one, will ever top The Andrew Sisters ever. They were the best, they are the best and they always will be.
You are so right
They were a forties institution and did so much for the country morale=wise during WWII

Best white female vocal group off all time.
They even speak in harmony! I love these guys!
The ALL time best trio female singers
Supremes and Andrew are the best..
I have been watching these clips for the past two hours...addicting! I love the Andrew Sisters!
They are singing the chorus of "Bei Mir Bist Du Shein"
What an amazing video - thank you so much seafree for uploading it!

When I was a child, my mother had some 78's of their singing with Bing Crosby. One, I remember, was "Pistol Packin' Mama."

It's funny how the panel was attempting to sing "Bei Mir Bist Du Schon", the Andrews Sisters first hit record.
I knew I knew the song! Thanks!
Watch one of these clips...and you will never stop...its like a drug.
thats true! im in love with the show after watching this clip!
For their era, they really were hip and groovy. Most lady singers were prim and proper until WWII and they made it OK to swing.
'Nowadays' i'ts not my days!! :(
Rip, Patty! It was missing you in heaven!

In 1959, LaVerne was 48, Maxene was 43, and Patty was 41
You can't find "Double Duchesse Satin" like that anymore!
I love mystery guest time
How lovely was Arlene Francis!

I just looked on Wikipedia and LaVerne died in 1967, Maxene died in 1995, but Patty (on the right) is still alive.
Wow... The Andrew's Sister's...

They need to be picked up by Dr. Who in the Tardis and brought here to 2012. We need them! well, I need them. ha ha

@cornermoose holy crap!!! i wonder how she would react if she knew people like me still listens to their music today XD
thats true!!! swing is the greatest!
Their joint answering of "Yep!" means it HAS to be the one (make that THREE) and only Andrews Sisters!

me too
Well alright, dig, dig, dig!
Hopefully, the album was in glorious mono and not in electronically-rechannelled stereo - as Decca did to so many classic albums back then.....
@cornermoose thats cool is there any alive today?
wow they look old how old were they at that time?
Only in their 40s. Women looked older because of those hairstyles imo.
They were the "Andrews" sisters, not the "Andrew" sisters.
oh please... i like the A sisters as much as anyone, but 74 mil. compared to 177 mil.?
i think you need a calculator.
