Tough day. I just came from a trip where I shot a 94 the first day (like your first 9) and an 80 on the second (tougher course too for rating). It was all the short game coming in.
5:18 Take a look at the 4th green. Where you see all that thick rough, that used to be all ice plant about 20 years ago. Hole 2 has no room for error and is the most visually intimidating hole I have ever seen. Hole 3, the downhill par 3, usually has a 20-40 mph wind blowing in to you. The wind is blowing up that hill so your ball just balloons up on you. Good times!

@Not A Scratch Golfer I will! If you if you can play the front 9 as well as the back 9, you'd have a good score going. I had a similar experience a little while back with a 44 on the front and a 59 on the back (and that was even the same 9 holes, just different tees. I've learned that that's just how it goes sometimes.
A famous Scottish architect remarked that back home they play MATCH play almost exclusively. Stroke play is only used for establishing a handicap. If we paid attention to the Scots, that second hole would be LONG forgotten, and would not wreck an entire round.
Can someone link me the video where Adam hits like 20 shots out of one bunker. I think about that often and it always makes me laugh. I think the quacking sounds after every hit is what does it. I keep looking through the channel library and can’t find it.
Playing Spyglass for the first time without a caddy is ambitious ! I highly recommend to anyone that’s never played the course (or any pebble course) to hire one of the caddies. They’re all great characters too, it really makes the experience a lot better !
I got the first tee time of the day and didn't see the ocean all day at Spyglass. 😂Loved the course, absolutely pristine. Had a great time, saw Scottie Pippen on the putting green, but didn't think it was that hard. Not easy of course, but I just don't really see what makes it so tough. I did avoid the sandy waste areas...maybe that's it.
Had the same round yesterday. Couldn’t figure out the greens had a 3 putt and 4 putt on the front 9 for 46. Playing partner said don’t worry we still have 9 holes (calmed me down). Was able to card a 38 on the back. Having a level head really does wonders. We can cry an moan about our bad shots but we should really focus on hitting the next good shot.
@@NotAScratchGolfer it also ate me alive. If your ever playing golf in southwest Michigan feel free to reach out! We’ve got some nice courses in Michigan!
@@NotAScratchGolfer That’s the fun thing about ranking courses you play. You don’t have to rank one higher just because everyone else does. Good question! It's always difficult to encapsulate my philosophy about this in something as pithy as a video title. I guess I would say it this way: My observation is that too many amateur golfers waste time going down a rabbit hole of self-guided "swing overhauls." I still maintain that learning how to pitch, chip, and putt will yield more immediate and meaningful gains for most golfers. And when it comes to the full swing, I still think too many golfers are trying to do too much. They watch instructional videos, they take bad advice from playing partners, etc. I've always found that a half-hour lesson with a pro leaves me with one or two simple things to work on that are actually incredibly helpful. As an example, after struggling with driver for a while (including a months-long stretch of rounds that I've been publishing on the channel recently), I had Gordon take a look at things and he concluded that my trail hand grip was too strong. That one observation immediately changed my ball flight meaningfully (from low hooks to high draws almost instantaneously). It wasn't a "swing change" and it didn't require me transforming my inside takeaway and all of my other problems. In that sense I'd say my "golf swing didn't matter."
@Not A Scratch Golfer Gotcha. I would still consider a grip change to be a swing change though. A grip change can actually change several swing dynamics at an unconscious level. With the change, you finished the course substantially better on the back 9. Doesn't that show the swing does in fact matter? I know what you are trying to say though. Maybe better wording would be endless grinding on the range won't really help you. Another thing to note is in my experience the closer you get to scratch the more the swing does in fact matter. It's just not realistic to get up and down all the time or always save yourself from bad tee shots.
I cannot hit a hybrid to save my life. I don’t know why. Long irons and woods off the deck I do pretty well. I even hit driver off the deck better than a hybrid.
Since you're lucky enough to play some insane courses you should rate them on a scale of 1-10. Would you consider Spyglass Hill more desirable than Pebble Beach?
I like this idea! It's difficult to compare Spyglass to Pebble. All things considered, I think Spyglass is a better collection of golf holes (and certainly a tougher routing). The opening holes on the coast are great and the inland parkland holes are spectacular. With that said, I don't think there's a better stretch of golf holes on Earth than 6-10 at Pebble. Not to mention the history that you can't help but feel when walking the holes at Pebble. If I had to choose a course to play my last round of golf, it would be Pebble. If I were lucky enough to play one of them every day, it would probably be Spyglass. Both 10/10 courses that I hope to play *several* more times :)
I think you could save 2 strokes 2nd hole, probably save 1 stroke by re-teeing 7th hole, it looked like you rushed your recovery shot, otherwise I think you get back into the fairway
Definitely should have re-teed on 2, no question. Topping balls while trying to get them back in the fairway is a somewhat common miss for me. Not sure if it's something psychological (like rushing) that leads to something mechanical or ... something else.
@@NotAScratchGolfer Maybe try a long chip shot/pitch shot with a 7 or 8 iron Just maintain tempo like you do with your shots around the greens with a wedge You're much better than I am so I think you can hit this shot consistently
Thanks for this feedback. It's always difficult for me to play with this stuff because candidly I still barely know what I'm doing in video editing software. Feedback taken!

Both 10/10 courses that I hope to play *several* more times :)
@@NotAScratchGolfer - Interesting, thanks!
imho spyglass blows pebble away, best course in the world
Why the does the sky look so filled with fine particles? Weird..
I see parfection! :D
I think you could save 2 strokes
2nd hole, probably save 1 stroke by re-teeing
7th hole, it looked like you rushed your recovery shot, otherwise I think you get back into the fairway
Definitely should have re-teed on 2, no question.
Topping balls while trying to get them back in the fairway is a somewhat common miss for me. Not sure if it's something psychological (like rushing) that leads to something mechanical or ... something else.
@@NotAScratchGolfer Maybe try a long chip shot/pitch shot with a 7 or 8 iron
Just maintain tempo like you do with your shots around the greens with a wedge
You're much better than I am so I think you can hit this shot consistently
What do you do for a living bro? Living the dream casually playing courses I would have to base two-week vacations around haha.
It has to be hard playing and also setting up the camera on every shot.
Emooooooootional Daaaaaaamage!!!!!
Thought you said you don’t have a swing coach
I want to use swing tweaks but I don't have anything Apple.
I would have to argue Augusta on Sunday is the hardest course on the PGA tour
Actually not PGA so never mind
Maybe turn the music down a bit.
Thanks for this feedback. It's always difficult for me to play with this stuff because candidly I still barely know what I'm doing in video editing software. Feedback taken!
@@NotAScratchGolfer No worries at all, was still an enjoyable video! Just a little less focus on the music and more on the golf and voiceover and we're golden
The background music which was played for 1 hole?? Lol. I thought it was a nice touch tbh Adam.
I agree with @chriskief7156 I like your vids that have no background music.
Maybe just don’t watch if you don’t like it 😂🤦🏻♂️❄️
Golf gods have not and will never exist. There is only one God. And hell is real.
wat
Mr. Sunshine! Thanks for stopping in. Because you're here watching a golf video, I assume you play. And assuming that, logic would tell me that you've heard similar anecdotal references to the "Golf Gods". They're just that...anecdotal. No one believes that there is literally a God up there or anywhere who strictly presides over golf. They usually do tennis too. Have a great day friend. 😁
Ok
"Golf gods" is just a figure of speech
