JKM you are an absolute legend! There was a serious lack of any quarry tutorials on youtube and this was very much needed. I just started prepping for my first ever single player quarry a few days ago so the timing was impeccable! Thank you good sir!
20:55 The pistons are pushing the gravel over the edge This is only possible on the first few layers, as you will eventually have a buffer of exactly 12 blocks everywhere, and the bottom block is moved first, giving the gravel a platform it it were pushed.
notice the area where the gravel fell from, there was an air block behind the block the gravel was on top of, so that block was not pushed for the gravel to stand on.
You’ve got yourself a new sub. This is one of if not THE most insane things I’ve ever seen on on MC. All of you are extremely skilled. Good job to you all!
I’ve been considering a quarry in my (mostly) single player world, just for the giggles. This has likely pushed me over the edge. Awesome tutorial. Right up there with Pixiel’s (spelling?) guide to eating worlds, and it will be just as referenced!
Same but it's such a massive project. Doing it on my own would take over a year of on/off progress and that would probably be for something 1/4 the size of the quarry in the video. I wish I had friends who loved the technical side of this game as much as I do. Having an extra 5-6 dedicated players would speed up a project like this immensely.
I think the gravel fell there because normaly it would have a larger shield but when was launched it was only a few blocks(caves and stuff) which caused the gravel to fall short of where it is supposed to land
Great video! I'm almost finished building a ~290 wide quarry (miscounted lol, should've been ~260), and this video showed me some things to keep in mind. Thank you!
Very informative and well edited video. And enjoyable, some videos in the tech community are very informative and have a tendency to get a bit boring, but I think you achieved to make something really good🙌🏼
u should add chapters to this btw, also even though im (probably) never going to make a quarry, this film was anything but a waste of time and that desu quarry is truly something special
Really excellent showcase and tutorial. Not seen any tech content like this for the new updates before, so this is very much needed as a reference material!
amazing how the quarry has these failsafes, so even if you mess up while building its relatively easy to repair and get back up running. one question: is it okay to unload the chunks the quarry is running in? Will something break if the machine unloads partially?
Unloading the quarry while it's running will very likely result in flying machines getting stuck at different y-levels and thus probably crash at things you don't want them to crash at, all that good stuff. Always have back-ups, and always load the quarry while it's running!
Great video JKM. Absolute master. Its also really good to see how you give credit to everyone! It's a breath of fresh air in youtube lately. Just subscribed and hoping to see your next video!

Wow, v2.1 and this video dropping just a few weeks after I've already built and launched v2.0 in my singleplayer world. Nice video, and so far my experience with the quarry design has been excellent.
I think i know why the gravel fell down. I cant really tell from the video but i dont think the concrete wall went all the way down. i think a row was missing on the bottom. you can kinda see at 18:28. and that would cause the gravel to get pushed but not the block bellow it so it would fall. this would also only effect the first layer so it explains why it did not happen again

1. For the dead bush txtpack, join Wave discord, link in the description 2. I want you to remember one thing. If there's anything that looks even remotely complex, it's never going to work on bedrock.
20:31 The gravel probably fell because there was a difference in thickness in the protective layer such that the gravel was pushed forwards while the deepslate below was not, causing it to fall. This wouldn't reoccur because the shield has to be incomplete.
on single player, just your client render/simulation distance. on a multiplayer server, the render/simulation distance in the server settings. If it's a server you own, you can change it in the server settings.
Before you start removing the immovable blocks I would recommend to build Ilmango's easy warden remover. It's easy to make, and the only hard part is finding a shrieker. If your wandering, it works in 1.20.1.
33:50 could you also load the quarry/tunnel bore using a large array of portal loaders (if I'm on a single player world/server), or are they just to lagy to load such a large area.
I mean, it is possible, but setting up the portals would take more time than tunnel boring itself. If you're playing on render and simulation distance 16, you can safely make the bore 200 blocks wide, and you'll be able to load it all while standing on either end
Ik, but also I noticed that if I look too low, I'll get sent only like 30 blocks and then instantly stop. If I'm looking a bit higher, this has a lower chance of happening
This may be a dumb question but can't you use the lightmatic schematic to find all the immoveable blocks? Can't you get the area, take the immoveable blocks out of the schematic, then place it back? Wouldn't you see the pink outline showing blocks that don't belong?
@@johnandrews141 The problem is that the game really doesn't like loading schematics with mere hundreds of thousands of blocks, but in a quarry you're dealing with hundreds of millions
@@JKM115 ahhh got you then why not just break it up into sections? Would it work then? I understand that may be a little difficult but I guess I was just overthinking about it while watching this yesterday
If you are OK with using a hacked client (utility mod) for its rendering options then they have a feature usually referred to a block esp which can dynamically highlight any set of selected blocks and or block entries to show where non movable blocks are. This way you usually get a nice way of highlighting blocks you need to remove without having to wait for a python script.
What happened with the gravel was the pistons pushing which are intended for destroying liquids pushed the gravel into an air gap with no floor below it pretty sure
Do you folks think that there should be better mass storage options available in the game? I dunno, maybe some kind of expandable multiblock "chest". Something that does not require to have thousand of individual chest around and that would be magnitudes more lag friendly
I just had a random passing thought that said “I wonder how long this video would be if he built the sample quarry at the end block by block instead of pasting with litematica. He can still use litematica, but just not the pasting part.”
