I've never been anywhere near S rank, but I'm going to claim responsibility for the trend anyway. Been using those two since before the end of last year, after the ETSUJIN got its big buff.
They both have excellent mid-range and while there are other close range weapons that will give the combo a lot of trouble, the WUERGER's charge attack is so fast and so strong (though only 90 meters in length) that depending on your back weapons even ZIMM heavies need to be smart with the approach.
It's just Etsujin is a very well rounded weapon: -Good stagger and damage -Good projectile speed -Good against shields -Low EN requirement No build can be considered bad if it has an etsujin. Meanwhile Wuerger is your "get off me ape" or stagger punish weapon. They might be rocking that VB-20B In terms of meta, lets just say a lot of the dedicated LARBster and Elevator builds (naturally) got bored of the game and moved on.
I will say I've very recently started getting into AC6 PvP and 70% of my matches have been vs dual etsujins, most of them beating me. I'm trying to figure out a way to counter them cuz most cases their builds are all just speedy and keeping a mid/close range from you and building up your stagger really fast then punish you with a hard hitting shoulder weapon after your attitude breaks.

Working on a quad shotty build using dual Wuerger as a combo pressure and punish option.
I run etsujin + wuerger too hah, although on a cqc lightweight with a jvln beta and 4-cell missile. Super fun
