  • The Bellarine Railway is a short heritage railway line southeast of Geelong. It runs along a very scenic section of the former Queenscliff line, although it was converted to narrow gauge to utilise rolling stock from Tasmania and Queensland, which was available at the time of its creation.
I had a great time on the railway, and I hope you enjoy my vlog of the trip too!

The Bellerine railway was converted to standard gauge. I don't know about a conversion to narrow but I wouldn't put it past them

Are you sure? The Wikipedia page says 1067mm narrow gauge.

@@melbournerailwayvideos You're right I'm sorry. I was sure they went standard gauge but I guess I was wrong.

Was standard gauge up to 1976 when it was closed and sold to the Bellarine rail way (moved from Belmont common) I worked on the railway for work experience with the Geelong city council

its really interesting how we have 4 full scale gauges in Victoria, Puffing Billy, Bellarine, Standard and Broad Gauge (of course there are plenty of miniature scale places too with all kinds)

Yeah it is! I think there might have been even more in the past, as timber tramways might have just used whatever type of narrow gauge they wanted.

We've taken the trip more than once but our last one was pretty awful with so many passengers. You could pretty well say the train was full. It was still school holidays. Just after Christmas 2023 I took these videos of the train departing Queenscliff. ruclips.net/user/shortsM99MGRQTaFY and ruclips.net/user/shortsXV3MPSz67dg I think there is some wheel slip in the video of the train departing the station.

Yeah I'm amazed at how busy it is. I tried to go many times before this, but it was booked out! Thanks for the videos too.

Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, highly recommend the trip out there. Going out there by car is also a good idea - I went by bus, and boy was the service slow! Wouldn't it be nice if there was a train from Geelong...

8:33 For those wondering, they do on special occasions operate a service from Lakers Siding to Drysdale. However this service is run for training new drivers which they allow the public to board. So this service usually only runs a few times a year.
The organisation doesn't operate any service that runs the full length of the Bellarine line from Queenscliff to Drysdale. However, The Q Train does.

That's strange. I would have really liked to have gone all the way to Drysdale! Thanks for the info anyway!
